Saturday Surprise — Small, Smaller, And Teeny-Tiny

I figure that after the week we’ve all had, we could use some cute critters to kick off the weekend.  So, I dug through some things I had saved over the past few weeks and found some of the most adorable li’l critters!  I was puzzled, though, in this article on Bored Panda, I kept seeing the word “smol”.  Now, I have a pretty good command of the English vocabulary, but this one is not in my memory bank.  After seeing it for about the umpteenth time, I Googled and found this …

“In the internet slang of DoggoLingo, smol is an affectionate way of saying someone or something is small in size—so cute you just want to squeeze ’em. It most often describes animals like puppies, kittens, bunnies, and even teeny-tiny reptiles.”

Well, I guess that makes sense.  As I’ve grown older, I’m not much a fan of slang, but this one really does fit some of these teeny-tiny critters.  These little guys can fit on a finger, hence they are dubbed “Tiny Animals on Fingers”.  Since there were 50 of these cute tiny critters, I decided to only use 25 today, but I hope you’ll click the link above to go see the rest of them!  Anyway, sit back and enjoy these itty-bitty creatures for a few minutes, then go forth and try to have a wonderful weekend!

  1. That is quite a collection of unique creatures! I think that only one gave me the ‘jitters’ – the bat. In my years of living in the Neotropics, I’ve been bitten by vampire bats 5 times. Three bites in Costa Rica, one in Nicaragua, and one in Ecuador. I no longer ‘freak’ when a bat swoops and swirls in/near me at night, but I don’t sit outside in the dark with my feet under a table – instead I pull them up in the chair… and I no longer sleep in primitive shelters/rooms where bats are free to sneak in and find people like me. ‘Why me?’ remains a mystery…Good friends often chuckle and call me ‘Bruja Blanca’ and hand me a broom on full-moon nights and suggest that I fly home instead of walking or driving!

Again, that is a lovely collection – some look so surreal as if Jim Henson or some creative person made them up….

    • I’m so glad you enjoyed the tiny critters! Your story of being bitten by bats … five times, no less … gives me shivers! I had one get caught in my hair once while we were taking Natasha out for Trick or Treat when she was little, but I’ve never been bitten! Hope you are doing well, my friend! We’re having a heat wave here, with temps in the upper 90s … I feel like the Wicked Witch of the West when she said, “I’m meltingggggggggggggggggg”. Take care and stay away from bats!

      • Oh, for a bat to get tangled in my hair – on Halloween? Wow!
Our climate is on the cool side; yesterday walked about 8K in the refuge, and today my joints are reminding me that I’m not young any more! Tomorrow back to the refugio… Have a great weekend!

        • It was scary for a minute, I must admit, but now I can laugh about it!

8k … about 5 miles … is nothing to sneeze at, my friend! Until my recent heart problems, I used to walk about 4 miles a day, weather permitting, but now I do well to walk to the end of our short street and back. I’m glad it’s cool there … let me send you some of our heat! It’s been miserably hot & humid here all week. Today is supposed to be more moderate, but back into the 90s next week. I hope you’re having a great weekend too, dear friend!
