I have only played this one once before, and that was waaaaaay back in 2019, so … REDUX!
This song, sung by the late Whitney Houston was written by Albert Hammond and John Bettis for the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea. The song was Houston’s third number one in the UK Singles Chart, and reached number five on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The song’s melody was inspired by the timeless figure of Elvis Presley, with Hammond imagining it as being sung by Presley at the opening of the Olympics. It appeared on the album 1988 Summer Olympics Album: One Moment in Time, produced in conjunction with NBC Sports’ coverage of the Seoul games and which, in addition to Whitney Houston who sang it live at the main ceremony, also featured artists such as: The Four Tops, The Bee Gees, Eric Carmen, Taylor Dayne and the film composer John Williams. The track is an anthem for believing in yourself against all odds as Houston asks for “One moment in time/when I’m racing with destiny/Then, in that one moment of time, I will feel eternity.”
One Moment in Time
Whitney Houston
Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I’m only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown
I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains
I want one moment in time
When I’m more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I’m racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity
I’ve lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less
I’ve laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands
Give me one moment in time
When I’m more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I’m racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity
You’re a winner for a lifetime
If you seize that one moment in time
Make it shine
Give me one moment in time
When I’m more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I’m racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be
I will be
I will be free
I will be
I will be free

She was gone far too soon. What a voice. The Bodyguard is a classic and we watched the broadway show inspired by her music a few years back and reinforced what a force in music she really was!

Indeed she was … seems to be the case with so many of the truly great talents. Would you believe that as much as I love Whitney Houston, I’ve never seen The Bodyguard? I watch very few movies and almost no television, for I am nearly deaf and rely heavily on closed-captioning, which means I’m busy reading the text instead of catching the action. Still, it is on my list of movies I want to watch someday soon! I’m glad you enjoyed the music!

It is a wonderful movie. Sappy and sentimental, yea, but we need more of that these days.

It’s now on my TBW list on Amazon! And yeah, we all need some of that to balance out the darkness of ‘real life’.

Your prediction was right! On a scale of how much I like this, from 1 being not at all to 10 meaning I absolutely love it, I think this ranks around minus 5 🤣

Hmmmm … so … what you’re saying is that you didn’t much care for this one? 🤣 Question: Is it just this song, or do you not care for Whitney Houston’s music period? We’ll see what you think of tomorrow’s … it’s one I’ve played a few times in the past and it definitely is not a happy, uplifting song, but one that is apropos for our times. Any guesses?

Correct! I don’t really like anything of hers, not my style at all.
As for guessing your next one, from your description I’d go for Eve Of Destruction!

I kind of thought that would be your answer. And, as you now know, your guess was spot on. I tossed a coin between that and another that I’ll likely play soon, and Eve of Destruction called heads.

It must be my day for lucky guesses! With Wordle I had just two letters in the wrong places after two goes. Next guess: full house! I need to do the lottery.
I’m not going to try guessing your other one. Quitting while I’m ahead 😊

Indeed … you should buy a lottery ticket … or five of ’em!!!
Aw … c’mon, Clive … give it your best shot … a hint: you like it, said it was a beautiful song and I could play it as often as I like last time I played it in early 2021.

Nope, memory fails. The only one I can think of is Imagine. I’ll have to wait and see 😊

It was obviously a good description on your part, even if I didn’t remember commenting on it last year!

Hah! Why should you remember commenting on it when I don’t even remember reblogging one of your posts! Our memories are just not quite what they once were, eh?

Definitely not, in my case!
