This is one of my favourites by the late, great Jim Croce. I planned to go in search of a new song, something I hadn’t played before, but I’m too exhausted tonight, so … Jim Croce volunteered to step in and give our ears a treat!
Photographs and Memories is the title song from Jim Croce’s album of the same name that was released in 1974, a year after his death. Croce was just starting to become successful when he died at the age of 30. Jim, the pilot, and other members of his group, were killed when the plane crashed into a pecan tree at the end of the runway in Natchitoches, Louisiana in 1973. Yet another gone too soon.
Photographs And Memories
Jim Croce
Photographs and memories
Christmas cards you sent to me
All that I have are these
To remember you
Memories that come at night
Take me to another time
Back to a happier day
When I called you mine
But we sure had a good time
When we started way back when
Morning walks and bedroom talks
Oh how I loved you then
Summer skies and lullabies
Nights we couldn’t say good-bye
And of all of the things that we knew
Not a dream survived
Photographs and memories
All the love you gave to me
Somehow it just can’t be true
That’s all I’ve left of you
But we sure had a good time
When we started way back when
Morning walks and bedroom talks
Oh how I loved you then

Jim Croce is aleays joined in my m8nd with Harry Chap8n,, who slso died too young. Both were great “solo” acts. I was lucky to see both of them in concert.

So poignant that this was released after he had already left us. A beautiful song.

Yes, that somehow adds something to the song, doesn’t it?

It really does.

Hello Jill. Thank you for some good memories. I would write more but think better of it. Great song and an artist I love a lot of his works. Hugs

Hello Jill. While not every musical post is for me, I find it stunning how many of the songs you post are ones I really like. As I told you a large part of my iTunes library is songs you have posted over the years. I think that it is amazing when you understand that we grew up in different times. Anyway, thanks as always. OT: You seem to be feeling better lately? I am glad to see your improvement and more frequent posting. Keep up the good fight, we need your voice. Warm Hugs

You can’t possibly know how good it makes me feel that you’ve enjoyed the music posts that much!
I’m hanging in, healthwise. Not making any further progress, but not regressing, either. I’m very limited in what I can do physically, so I spend my time … writing blog posts, keeping up with the news, etc. Huge hugs to you, my dear friend

That was a fascinating video, but the above picture is not Jim Croce!

Jill, one of many favorites of his for me. I have a great set of Jim Croce CDs for long trips. This song is so melancholy and vivid. Keith

Then I’m extra glad I played it! Heh heh … I notice you didn’t like or comment on “Fire” that I played for Clive a few days ago! I’m not surprised … I disliked it, but promised Clive, and I was curious to see how many might actually like it. I was surprised, actually, by how many did!

I know you were slive then, Jill, as was Keith, but you “had to be there!” It was a song of the times, lol.

“Slive”??? Not sure … never heard that term before, or was it a typo?

Ahhhh … I was tired and it was getting late, otherwise I might have figured it out. All I could come up with was “slave” and that made no sense! Yes, I was alive and so was Keith, but … different strokes for different folks!

I loved Jim Croce. He died too young and tragically in my home state. My favorite of his is Lover’s Cross and this is my second favorite. Thanks Jill.

I’m glad you enjoyed it!!! Yes, he did, like so many in the field, die way too young. But, he left us his legacy, for which I’m thankful!

Interesting side story. When we lived in Manual Antonio, CR, our little jungle house had once been occupied by Jim while on a vacation to CR. I thought that was so cool. A lot of artistic people spent time in the country.

That IS definitely cool!!! Who knew he vacationed in Costa Rica?

According to our Costa Rican friend and landlord there, he was on a sabbatical. I had a friend from Minnesota who ran into Keith Richards at a hotel in Liberia, Costa Rica some years ago. He sat and chatted with her by the pool. 🙂

I guess the more laid-back atmosphere is a welcome retreat after the dog-eat-dog world they live in on a daily basis! Heck … I wouldn’t mind a sabbatical there myself, ‘cept I can’t afford it!
