FDR Quotations

Just a short, but excellent one from Charles French tonight!

charles french words reading and writing

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”

“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”

“Repetition does not transform a lie into a truth.”

      • It does not. And yet, humans have progressed to where people are allowed to not believe what they are spoonfed as children. And I am not talking only about religion, but patriotism and nationalism as well, among other things.
If we were truly free to be anyone we want to be, as some of us have discovered on our own, this world could be a much better place to live in. That too is s dream of mine.

        • That was once my dream also, rg, but … I no longer have dreams for the future. I am close to being done with my time on this planet and thankfully so. Do I rue what will become of the human species for my girls, for my friends? Yes, of course I do. I almost think a nuclear armageddon would be a kindness, a quicker, cleaner way to end human life on earth than the drawn out manner in which it is likely to end. Sigh. Forgive my bleakness … the rabbit hold is deep tonight.
