Ooooooohhhh … my head is ‘sploding! 🤯 The snark-o-meter is well into the danger zone . It must be time for me to share the misery, the angst, the utter depravity! Fasten your seatbelts, my friends, for it won’t be a smooth ride!
I first read The Diary of Anne Frank at around the age of 7. I already knew of the Holocaust through first-hand stories told by family members, and Anne Frank’s account of the terror in Germany during those years stayed in my mind long after the first time I read it. Since then, I have read it at least twice more. But some children today are not being allowed access to the book. WHY??? Because at the Keller Independent School District in Keller, Texas, the district has ordered The Diary of Anne Frank to be pulled from all school library shelves immediately!
“By the end of today, I need all books pulled from the library and classrooms,” wrote Jennifer Price, Keller ISD’s executive director of curriculum and instruction.
WHY???
Okay, so it appears that not only do some in this nation wish to whitewash the history of the U.S. – slavery, Indigenous People, internment camps, St. Louis, Jim Crow etc. – but now they also want to pretend that anti-Semitism isn’t even a thing, that Hitler never called for the execution of some six million Jewish people and others, that … what? That World War II never happened and that the Jews self-exterminated because they didn’t like Hitler’s broomin’ mustache?
Apparently there is a concerted effort in some districts to see just how ignorant we can make the next generation!
Sean Hannity is a talking head for Fox “News” who just happens to have a net worth of some $250 million, was an unofficial ‘advisor’ to the last so-called president, and apparently is even more stupid than he looks. Here is the nonsensical babble he uttered last Friday …
“What do you think the next thing that happens here is, do you think that they would try and indict the former president in the hopes of convicting him and having him in jail at the time of the next election to prevent him from running . . . Because a conviction by the way, constitutionally, would not prevent him from running for office.”
Marc Elias, a lawyer specializing in election law, rebutted Hannity’s claim by quoting U.S. Code Title 18, Section 2071, which states that anyone “having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.”
Hannity continued his claim that Trump could run and be elected even if convicted and even from a jail cell. Well, Mr. Hannity is not as smart as he thinks, but he sure is, just like his idol, a royal pain in the patootie. Oh, and by the way, if Trump should happen to be convicted for his role in the events of January 6th, Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that Hannity claims to understand, prohibits anyone who has previously taken an oath of office (Senators, Representatives, and other public officials) from holding public office if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States. Unlike Mr. Hannity, I have actually read and studied the Constitution!
Boston Children’s Hospital is ranked the #1 children’s hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and is a pediatric teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. They do good things … they save children’s lives. But in the past two weeks or so, the hospital and some of its staff have been harassed and are receiving threats. Why? Because some of the children they treat are transgender children and the radical right do not like it.
Apparently, it all started with a right-wing Twitter account, “Libs of TikTok” with misinformation, and then it snowballed, as such things are wont to do. Now, doctors are being threatened with ‘execution’, staff are being harassed with threatening emails and phone calls, all because of some blatant lies told on a social media platform. I have long seen two sides, a positive and a negative, to social media in general, but these days I’m seeing more negative than positive and am wondering if it’s really worth it.
The January 6th attempted coup was so well attended because participants were able to openly communicate on Facebook and Twitter to coordinate such things as travel arrangements, weapons, etc. What’s next … a riot with bombs at a hospital filled with sick children? Law enforcement is said to be working with the hospital … they damn well better search until they find every single person who has issued a threat and put them in jail where they belong! A growing portion of this nation is sick and disgusting!
And on that note, I bid you a good-night or a good morning, depending on which side of the pond you’re on!
a sad state of affairs indeed. I just don’t know how people can outright lie, in such a public way, and still have millions of followers. I’m guessing if I made such statements, I would be looking for another job…

If you or I did half the stuff they do, we’d be in jail. And no, we couldn’t/wouldn’t do it anyway, because we have one thing they lack: a conscience.

I’m surprised they have not banned the Bible yet! After all, the stories that are told in the Bible should not be read by children not old enough to understand what is being said! How many children have nightmares about being turned into pillars of salt, or having an avenging angel fly through the cities killing the first-born in each family! Or the story of the flood, where God was so angry he wiped out all animals and humans save the couplings that made it onto the ark. Talk about bone-chilling stories!
Besides, nowhere in the Bible does it say abortions are bad. How can they not ban a book that doesn’t say how sanctified life is for a fetus the instant it is conceived! Nor does it say that mothers should suffer and die in order to save the life of an unborn child? Obviously the Bible is not the Book that gives us this new understanding of Evangelistic or even Catholic Christianity. Someone better ask God to rewrite the Bible from stem to stern, taking out all the scary parts, and adding in all the things God meant yo say but failed to put in the first time!
Banning The Diary of Anne Frank! I would suggest they ban Gidget, except no one knows who Gidget even is anymore.

Are you kidding! These religious fanatics will never ban the Bible. They live and breathe the violence and hatred and orders to kill in it. They are banning Anne Frank because they don’t like the Jews. And they send hate mail and threats to hospital staff because of Covid denial and their consuming hatred of the gay community at large.
40% of this country has lost its ever loving mind and another 30% are totally apathetic..so that only leaves 30% of us to try to sustain decency and a semblance of democracy.

I wasn’t kidding, Mary. By their standards the Bible should be banned. I was j7st showing the iron of the situation.

Ahhhh … but I read earlier today that the same district in Texas that is banning Anne Frank has also banned the bible! All versions.

Interesting that you should say that, because the same school district that banned Anne Frank, also … wait for it … banned the bible!!! https://www.npr.org/2022/08/18/1117708153/bible-anne-frank-books-banned-texas-school-district
They’ve banned any books with an LGBTQ character, as well. It’s funny that they accuse the left, liberals, of something called ‘cancel culture’, but aren’t they in effect cancelling the very existence of a large portion of the human race by banning them and their stories?

Well I’ll be an uncle’s monkey. They got one book right. I do wonder what resson they gavefor it though. Does it contain LGBTQ2S+ stories in it?

Who knows? I didn’t bother to research it any further. Perhaps I will one day, but I just moved on for the moment in search of more interesting things. I’ve long said that religion should be a family affair, not one taught in public schools, so I don’t know why the bible was even in the schools to start with.

I am betting the Talmud, the Koran, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Bhagavad Gita, and other such books were not even in the school library.
I disagree with religion being a family affair. Religion is something best kept away from children unless THEY ASK FOR IT. Once a child reaches the age of majority then they can be introduced to the ideas of religion and atheism, and be given a summary of what every religion has to offer or what atheism has to offer, and they can look and choose for themselves. Religion or the lack thereof should be an individual journey. It should not involve pressures from anyone. One problem with our world is forcing religion on children who have no ability to discriminate between truth and fiction.
Religon should be chosen, not forced on anyone!

No doubt you are right, and neither was the Quran or the Torah. Well, you and I agree that religion should play no role anywhere, as it is the foundation for most of the bigotry and hatred, most of the wars that have happened. BUT … it isn’t our place to tell parents how to raise their children, so if religion is part of the parent’s agenda, then … so be it. BUT … those parents do NOT have a right to tell me that my children must be subjected to their bigotry.

Jill, they must have a large supply of white paint, especially since so much has been used to paint over the actions and words of the last former president. Yes, he did lose the election.
White washing has been occurring for ages, but now it seems more prolific or at least more prolifically reported. History tells us the South was more active before, during and after the Civil War to paint a picture the Civil War was more about states’ rights than slavery. How else could they get poor whites to do their dirty work – they could not say, go fight the Yankees so we can own more slaves and make money, now could they?
In America, “The Birth of a Nation,” the most racist and vile movie ever made is still in the Top 100 of influential films and was shown in the Woodrow Wilson White House. And, 25 Senators and over 100 Congressman were affiliated with the KKK at one point in the early 1930s. This is how Jim Crow easily overwhelmed the rights of African-Americans.
And, Senator Joe McCarthy became popular with his communist witch hunts simply by making things up, sometimes on the fly. It should not be lost on anyone that a major legal advisor to McCarthy was New York attorney Roy Cohn who later became a mentor to another populist who has a hard time with the truth – Donald J. Trump. I do not make this up. Per Trump’s biographies, Cohn advised Trump to “never apologize and sue everyone.”
As for Sean Hannity, we must not forget he is an entertainer who has an opinion show. He is not a news person and he is not well-researched with his opinions. Per the movie about the rise and fall of Fox News’ Roger Ailes starring Russell Crowe, Hannity was hired because he beat up knowledgeable guests not letting them talk, not because he was astute.
We must focus on facts so people can be informed. These lies about the Holocaust not being real or caused by persecuting Nazis are just total BS and people need to highlighted by a spotlight. If someone lies about one of the most heinous atrocities in world history, they will lie about anything. Full stop.

I don’t agree with protests outside of children’s hospitals. That said, medicalizing children who are different is just plain WRONG. They will be taking meds for the rest of their lives. There are other ways of dealing with these kinds of issues. Of course, parents nowadays are so stupid they don’t have a clue about any of this.
I read the Diary of Anne Frank when I was a kid & that was one of the reasons I started my own diary. I also remember friends of my parents who had left Germany after WWII & I saw the numbers tattooed on their arms. You can’t deny what is real.

It goes beyond simple protests outside the hospital and threats of violence are being taken very seriously by hospital staff and law enforcement.
Well, neither you nor I understand transgender children or the medical care they are given, and neither of us, I think, have a transgender child, so we’re not really qualified to comment on the medical needs and care of those children.
Yes, Anne Frank’s diary has, I believe, made a difference in many people’s viewpoint at an early age. My jaw dropped when I heard of that one school district banning it, and you can be sure there will be more. Sigh. Bigots.

What sad news, Jill! The Diary of Anna Frank is very important to read by everyone, especially by children, if they old enough to understand. What a hoax banning it from a school library. ;-/ Best wishes, Michael

Some school districts are banning books just because they feature Black children, or because the Holocaust is even mentioned. It is sad, it is tragic, and it is not helping develop well-rounded kids if they are only allowed to read certain “happily ever after” books! Sigh. xx
