Setting politics aside today, I want to share our dear friend Scottie’s post. Scottie and his husband Ron have survived Hurricane Ian, but not without damage to both their home and themselves. My heart goes out to them and I feel helpless to do anything other than express my genuine love and concern. Please keep Scottie and Ron in your hearts, for they have been through so much, with more to come.
Punta Gorda Is the next town up from us so we got what the got. We are in North Fort Myers between Fort Myers and Punta Gorda. I understand everything in this article. Ron is tired. He has fought all his life to make things better and gotten knocked back and down repeatedly. He was tired rebuilding this place before but it was feeling like it was becoming what we wanted. Now Ron has lost hope and feels overwhelmed. My going down yesterday didn’t help his feelings as he feel’s this is hurting me bad. But it is hurting all of us I tell him I just had five days of over doing. Like 30 hours behind the wheel of a vehicle and spending a night trying to sleep in the van in a parking lot. So much more. But we had no information. No one in management came to…

Well done for blogging this Jill.
Good folk like Scottie and Ron are suffering, if only we could do more.

I know … it breaks my heart. They’ve been through so much already, and now this.

Yeah indeed. It brings it all home doesn’t it? When we have some connection with the person suffering we begin to perceive the true enormity of these types of events.

It does indeed … it makes it so much more personal for us than simply reading a story in the news can do.

That it does.
Shuts down my own worries and problems for certain.

Or at least shrinks our own worries and problems down to size. I found myself cursing at nobody in particular today when faced with some minor inconvenience and saying to nobody, “Is it too much to ask for just one thing to go right today???” And then I stopped dead in my tracks and said, “Oh shit … this little bump is NOTHING as compared to what so many people are going through. I’m a bloomin’ idiot!” Perspective. It’s all a matter of perspective.

I’m in Ohio, but Scottie is right in the center of the devastation down in Florida. He and Ron are having a really tough time … my heart goes out to them, too! I’ll pass along your thoughts to him … thank you!!!

Please do! I’m here on the east coast. Flooding is still an issue. It’s just so devastating for our folks in the west coast. 🥲

It definitely is … just seeing the pictures makes me heartsick. I hope the flooding doesn’t damage your home!

Did you see the pictures he posted of his office, with the roof caved in? It breaks my heart, and I know that theirs isn’t even the worst-damaged home in the area. And how about you, Mary … do you have electricity yet? I worry about all my friends in Florida!

Yes. I got it back a couple of days ago…been cleaning up yard debris. I’m inland, so didn’t have the problems Scottie had. It was horrific in his area. I feel so bad for them.
