GOP MAGAs Push Towards Autocracy Will Harm US Economy and Its Citizens

Our dear friend Gronda gives us a spot-on and chilling analysis of where we are headed if the autocratic-minded Republican Party gains a majority in one or both chambers of Congress next year. The picture she paints is, for me at least, one that nightmares are made of. Thank you, Gronda! Great to have you back!!!

While Democratic Party candidates should be focusing on the 2 issues of saving our US democracy from devolving into a Fascist style autocracy and the restoration of women’s access to legal abortions, they should still be in the driver’s seat when faced with having to address economic issues.
*
All discussion of issues by Dems when confronting GOP MAGAs’ favorite talking points of inflation, immigration, and crime should be tied back to US voters saving our US democracy from devolving into an autocracy. Without a strong democracy, it will be mission impossible to effectively and competently address any of these real problems.
*
Our voters’ economic wellbeing, our ability to keep rights like that of same sex marriage, and the right of each person to have his/ her vote counted for their intended candidate will be made much worse if GOP MAGAs are able to become the majority party in…

  2. Minority Leader and Putin chatchfart Kevin McCarthy said that he would cut off aid to Ukraine; other Repubblicans have said that they would use the debt ceiling as a hosage to getting their way, which would cause financial crises all over the worls. It is obvious (to me, at least) that the fates of more than one nation are at stake on 8 November.

    • Typo apologies – “catchfart¹”, “Republicans” and “world”. I’m recovering from a hand fracture and my typing isn’t up to snuff. Neither, apparently is my proofreading.

¹”Catchfart” is a delightful word I found while perusing the Oxford English Dictionary (yes, I do peruse dictionaries recreationally). It means, “…a follower or lackey, derived from the customary position of being behind one’s master”.

      • Ha ha … no worries! I am the master of typos myself! Catchfart … never heard that one, but I rather like it … I’ll use it, if I can remember it! My memory is not what it once was.

    • I read that, and also read that Ukrainians are closely watching this election, knowing their aid could be reduced if the Republicans gain a majority in either chamber of Congress. Best guess is that if they do, then the current Congress will attempt to pass a huge aid bill for Ukraine during the period between November 8th and January 3rd when the new Congress is sworn in. And in other ways, too, what happens in this election will affect much of the rest of the world. For example, will Congress revert back to some of the policies of the Trumpian era when we shunned our allies and gave warm hugs to our enemies? We know the Republicans admire the likes of Hungary’s Orbán. Fortunately, President Biden will still have veto power and I don’t think Congress will be able to muster a 2/3 majority to override his veto, but it is highly likely that our government will be in chaos for the next two years.

      • You better believe Zelensky and his country are sweating the midterms as much as sane Americans, and this Canadian. These Maggots have no shame hiding their intentions. Cutting off medicaid, pensions, and aid for Ukraine are announced proudly by them, and that’s besides what else they’ll do. Pump more tax cuts for the rich so they can put more squeeze on the average citizen, and not to mention erase women’s rights and most likely they’ll take away women voting too. The greed is never ending. Who the hell votes for these kind of evil people? I’m horrified. 😦

        • Oh yes, I have read that Zelenskyy is anxiously awaiting election results. In truth, though, I don’t think a Republican Congress would completely cut aid to Ukraine, but they might scale it back. And I also don’t think they will cut out Social Security, Medicaid/Medicare, or the other social programs, for there would be such a hue and cry that it would be heard on Jupiter! It’s a talking point for them, makes them look like the stern accountant. What people need to be asking is how they will make the top 1% contribute a fair share to our coffers. The wealth inequality in this country ought to be a high priority, as should the environment, but you’ll notice Republican politicians don’t have much to say on those issues. You ask who votes for these kinds of evil people? Well, two basic categories: 1) the wealthy who have bought and paid for the politicians votes to keep their taxes low, keep them safe from environmental and worker safety regulations, and more, and 2) the uneducated who truly do not understand how government operates and are at the mercy of those with the loudest voices who can spin a lie that sounds good but is not. Sigh. And now you see why I come to Smorgasbord for my dose of humour!

    • Yep, even some of the judges he appointed have struck down his requests and are holding him accountable! The evidence against him in a number of cases is mounting and surely he must be sweating by now! xx
