Well, folks, it’s that time of the year again. No no … not the ‘holiday season’ … well, yeah, it is that too, but I was referring to Time Magazine’s Person of the Year! Tomorrow, Time will announce this year’s person. I looked at the list this afternoon and the first name stunned me … China’s Xi Jinping … the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. Okay, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, considering they nominated the former guy as recently as 2020. But still … shouldn’t Person of the Year be an honour held for people who have done and/or are doing something good in the world? Yes, I do realize that they don’t necessarily award it to ‘good’ people, but rather those who were the biggest newsmakers of the year, but still …
And it gets even better …
The U.S. Supreme Court in all their “glory” is also on the list because, according to Time, it is “incredibly influential this year due to its conservative supermajority.” Time seems to applaud their decisions that have set women’s rights back to the last century and taken authority to try to save the planet from disaster away from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Elon Musk and Ron DeSantis both made the list, as well. Elon because he “has garnered controversy surrounding his takeover of Twitter” and Ron because a) he won his election, and b) his little stunt of flying migrants to Martha’s Vineyard that gained him lots of attention.
Others on the list include MacKenzie Scott (Jeff Bezos ex-wife), Liz Cheney, and Janet Yellen … all decent sorts who have done some good, but not Person-of-the-Year sort of good. I suppose we should just be thankful that Kanye West, Stuart Rhodes or Nick Fuentes aren’t in the running!
There is really only one person on the list who I consider worthy of the honour of being named “Person of the Year” and that is Volodymyr Zelenskyy (and Time didn’t even spell his name right!) He is fighting the Russian bear on behalf of the people of Ukraine and has never once wavered, never considered backing down. He is truly a man of courage and convictions, and if I had a vote on the Time Person of the Year, my vote would be for President Zelenskyy!
Here Here! DEFINITELY Zelensky for man of year! ❤

Absolutely, and I love that they named not only Zelenskyy, but the people of Ukraine as well, for they are a courageous people!

Congratulations to president Zelenskyy. He has well deserved it. But i only hope he will stop early enough, and not fighting an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. xx Michael

Indeed, he did deserve it!!! I think that he will stop when the threat is over, but until then, he must do everything in his power to drive the enemy out of his country and protect his people. xx

Zelenskyy it is. With an honorable mention to Liz Cheney. Putin did not count on one thing – the president of Ukraine would stand up to him. The same could be said for Trump and Cheney. Both told these bullying and deceitful so-called leaders we are not going to stand for your BS. Keith

First news on my phone this morning, and I did a big WHOOP before I was even out of bed! Cheney certainly deserves honourable mention, but not ‘Person of the Year’. You’re right … Putin thought he would take over Ukraine with barely a whimper, but the Ukrainian people and Zelenskyy showed him a thing or two! And Cheney knew she was burning down her career goals, but she put country ahead of profit. Score two for justice, for humanitarianism.

Jill, I saw where Putin’s feelings were hurt over the Zelenskyy Person of the Year designation. Too bad. Maybe he should not have given Zelenskyy a foil by invading Ukraine. Keith

Awwww … poor little dictator! I wonder if he threw ketchup on the wall? And you are so right … Putin created the mess that gave Zelenskyy the need to become a hero in the eyes of so many. Vladimir Putin will NEVER be a hero, though he was Time Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2007! Sometimes their choices puzzle me.

I totally agree, from reading comments by some Republicans it appears they are questioning the commitment of the US and of course rubbishing Biden as well. It will not be long before they are demanding the reduction or even the stopping of arms to Ukraine. I have also read that they are spewing about Zelenskyy preventing religious organisations that are affiliated to Russia being active in Ukraine, but of course this is a wise move as during both world wars churches were used as staging points for spies and freedom fighters. These Republicans have almost no feelings for the rapes, murders and demolition of Ukraine but harp on about religious freedom. Unbelievable.

Indeed, I’ve heard a few like Marge Greene claim that they will not fund another penny for Ukraine once the new Congress takes over in January. So much for humanitarianism, eh? I didn’t know about the religious groups not being allowed to be active in Ukraine, but as you say, it makes sense. Doesn’t mean they can’t believe as they wish, read their religious tomes, and say their prayers, they just can’t congregate. You hit the nail on the head when you say those Republicans have no feelings … about these or any other matters. They sold their feelings, their consciences, for $$$$$$$$$.

Even if the Russians were to completely take over Ukraine, they would never truly conquer the people just as Hitler never conquered the people of France for example, the underground and the allies were causing havoc for the invading forces. I do however expect and hope that will not happen and finally Putin will be removed and the troops pulled out.

You’re so right about that — the Ukrainians are proud of their country and will always be Ukrainians, no matter what Putin wants or tries to impose. Like you, I hope it doesn’t happen — Putin thought he would just swoop in and take over the country but he didn’t count on the patriotism, the spirit of Zelenskyy AND the Ukrainian people. Now, he’s rather between a rock and a hard place, for he likely cannot win this war, and yet he’s not about to concede that.

These messed up religious nuts who rave on about the cost and want to ban sending military equipment to help save Ukrainians from being murdered are the same idiots who claim abortion is murder. Their mental state is far from stable.

I came to the conclusion long ago that religion is the source of most of the world’s problems. It’s not that I would argue against anybody’s belief that there is some ‘higher being’ or that there is a ‘plan’ and a ‘better place’, but it’s everything that follows those core tenets. Religion is exclusive rather than inclusive and humans make up all sorts of weird rules that they say come from ‘God’ or ‘Allah’ of whatever higher being they follow. And then they attempt to impose those rules on everyone and shun those who don’t accept their rules. Not only shun them, but ofttimes kill them for their nonconformity. Governments use religion to control and manipulate, even here in the U.S. where there IS a wall of separation between church and state. Marx hit the nail on the head when he said that “religion is the opiate of the masses.”

Let me put it this way: Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not just fighting Putin for Ukrainians, but he is fighting Putin for the rest of the people of the world, since no one is willing to “fight” beside him.
But truly, the newsmakersof 2022 should be all Ukrainians, citizens and soldiers. The hell they are going through, and surviving, is a lesson for everyone to honour

You’re so right! Because if Putin succeeds in Ukraine, it won’t stop there. He will move on, for his stated goal is to recreate a Soviet-style empire.

With the Person of the Year going to Volodymyr Zelenskyy AND the Spirit of Ukraine I think I knocked that one out of the park. 😊 (No accolades necessary.)

If it weren’t for Zelenskyy, I’d pick Liz Cheney, but he’s absolutely the best choice.

Agreed. Cheney knew she was dooming her political career when she volunteered to serve on the January 6th committee, but she did her job and did it well. But, that still pales in comparison to a man who puts his life on the line every day to try to save his nation, his people. I think there can be no other to top Zelenskyy!

We should find out in a few hours … I am still shaking my head over Xi Jinping being on the list, but then … twice they’ve had Trump on the list. Much to his chagrin, he never quite made the cut! 🤣
