They look into the abyss but deny its danger and claim only as fear by the weak-hearted.
For they are locked into the fog of their ethos
They have replaced the word ‘Responsibility’ with the over-used ‘Devalued word ‘Liberty’
Yet stifle the thought that bubbles within their febrile mindset.
They have not yet crossed into the domain of the true fanatics to embrace and say out loud ‘These are acceptable losses,’
They will rely on hollow displays of regret and pour out their ridiculous ideas of A Nation In Arms will solve everything.
And what will they say when the Ever Eternal Bailiff- Death comes to ask them for their personal payment?
Say what they then about ‘Liberty’?
Why, they have the Liberty to mourn of course.
There is something very basic missing from a person who sees dead children in a school and still, when he has the power to change things for future children, refuses to act. And when the ‘right’ to own a killing machine is more powerful than the ‘right’ to be safe in our own communities, then … we are one screwed up nation. Since I am not a believer in an afterlife or punishment beyond death, I want to see them get their comeuppance in the here and now. Sigh. I enjoyed this music, though … their voices are beautiful!
It would seem Jill, ‘The Gun’ has become No Compromise political weapon, you are either for or against.
Which in the case of something that has the ability to deal out death and injury is not healthy.
We have a problem here with knife crime amongst the young, but at least no one is saying they have the right to carry weapons.
It’s difficult for me to shake off my ‘More State Control’ feelings these days.
You’re so right. Even though the vast majority of people, including gun owners, support additional regulation, it won’t happen because too much money passes hands, too many lies are told. I’d rather face a knife than a gun any day of the week … I can run from a knife, for the guy holding the knife has to get within a foot or two, whereas the guy with the gun can be hundreds of yards away, plus these days with the semi-automatic weapons becoming ever more popular, he can shoot me 20-30 times in under a minute, so he ain’t likely to miss. In this and many other issues, I agree with you about more state control, ’cause people have proven they have no sense!
It’s a grim scenario you paint Jill, and view of another in the of town Arkabutla now no longer unknown many folk in the USA must be thinking the same way as you.
The question is.
How long before folk en mass demand protection in law?
Or
Arm themselves and start taking lessons in self-defence, while at the same time despising those who brought this on them.
The reaction against the current NRA, multi-gun owners and their political opportunists may be complicated and currently unexpected.
It is a grim scenario. Wouldn’t you think that all the school shootings in recent years would have been enough for folk en masse to demand protection in law? But no, they basically chalk it all up as the price you pay for “freedom”. FREEDOM from WHAT??? Freedom to do WHAT??? We’re not free to walk into a grocery store and have a high expectation of walking out in one piece! Even a member of Congress, Steve Scalise, who was shot in a domestic terrorist attack, is still very much pro-gun rights and won’t vote for any legislation to ban assault weapons or make us safer in any way. I tell ya, Sir Roger, people are not as bright as they think they are!
Supreme coyurts shoukd not be able to debate laws unless they can be proved to be unjust, such as abortion-denying laws. Laws that nake society safer should not even be on their agenda!
Well, their job is to interpret the Constitution and determine if laws are in accordance to that document. However, the current Court is interpreting the Constitution not by its words or by the framers’ intent, but rather by how the Republican Party wants them to interpret it.
I fear you will be writing about long into future then. The politicians who could do something about it have no intention of doing so, because they couldn’ t care less about the lives of ordinary Americans.
Best wishes, Pete.

I heard the governor of Michigan is going to fight gun violence, and has the numbers to pass a bill. Good kuck to her!

I hadn’t heard that, but more power to her! I hope she succeeds! Of course, New York tried that and the Supreme Court struck it down. Sigh.

Agreed. Those politicians are far more concerned with the donations they get from the gun lobby and with their NRA rating. Cheers!
