SHEESH!!! šŸ™„

Some days I read the news and roll my eyes so many times that my vision becomes even more blurry than before.Ā  Some days I read the news and shake my head so many times that I begin to hear something rattling around in there.Ā  I thought I’d share with you just a few of the things that cause me to engage in the eye-rolling and head-shaking so that you can enjoy those activities too!

Firing Squads???

In Idaho, Governor Brad Little signed a bill last week, previously passed by both chambers of the Idaho state legislature, that allows execution by firing squad.Ā  Yes, you heard me right … stop shaking your heads before you shake something loose!Ā  Firing Squad!!!Ā  For years, the majority of us in this nation have been trying to get rid of the death penalty, and here we have a state that wants to return to the days of yore and execute people by firing squad!!!Ā  Lethal injection was cruel enough, given that at some point we are absolutely certain to murder someone who later proves to have been innocent but … GUESS WHAT???Ā  You can’t bring ā€˜em back from the dead!Ā  And no amount of ā€˜reparations’ to their family will replace that person!

Can you imagine what it would be like to be tied to a structure, blindfolded, knowing there were numerous men holding big guns just a few feet away, and knowing that the moment they are given the order, they will open fire and literally shred your body to pieces?Ā  Can you imagine being a mother, son, or spouse of the person who will be executed in such a manor?

When the Sam Hell did the United States become a nation of cruel assholes???Ā  Welcome to the United States of the 18th Century!

And down in the sour grapefruit state …

The Florida legislature has just passed a bill that basically says anybody can carry a concealed gun of any sort anywhere they go without … WITHOUT having to first obtain a permit.Ā  It only remains for Governor DeSantis to sign the bill into law, which he has already promised to do. Take my advice, friends … DO NOT travel to Florida for any reason or under any circumstances!!!Ā  Not only do you take your life into your own hands, but you put it into the hands of a bunch of bigoted gun nuts!!!

Oh, but wait!Ā  Florida is not the first … not by a long shot, to give unlimited access to carrying a concealed weapon in public sans permit.Ā  Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee (see final snippet at the end of this post), Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming already have similar laws … or should I say, ā€˜anti-laws’?Ā  In my own state, Ohio, it is harder to vote than it is to carry a gun!!!Ā  Something is royally f*cked up about this, my friends!!!

Nobody is above the law … well, except for one person, it seems

I don’t know about you guys, but I do NOT pay taxes to support legislators to waste their time and our money to support a criminal former ā€˜president’!Ā  However, puppet Kevin McCarthy and his puppet masters seem to think that is a great way to waste our hard-earned money!Ā  Apparently, the House of Representatives now plans to ā€œtake up legislationā€ that would strip state and local prosecutors of the authority to prosecute former presidents.Ā  Ever hear the term, ā€œNOBODY is above the lawā€???Ā  Apparently, the House, led by … well, superficially led by Kevin McCarthy, but in truth led by his puppet masters such as Margie Greene, Jim Comer, Gym Jordan, and others … plans to make the point that nobody except Donald Trump is above the law.

Like much of the legislation being considered in the House of Representatives today, this bill is likely DOA (dead on arrival) in the Senate and will certainly be burnt to ash if it ever reaches President Biden’s desk, but … DAMMIT, stop wasting time and money on these inane frivolities!!!Ā  I’m sick and damned tired of the people of this nation paying approximately 15% – 25% of their hard-earned dollars to support this kind of crappola!Ā  To support a party that is in disarray, that wants to trample the democratic foundations of this country, and that will lead us over a cliff if we don’t do something to stop them!

Breaking news … play it again, Sam

And this just in, as I was wrapping up this post:

ā€œShooter dead, multiple patients after Nashville school shooting, police sayā€Ā  —Ā  The Washington Post

“3 Children Dead in Shooting at Nashville School”Ā  —Ā  New York Times

There you have it, folks … again and again and again and again ad nauseum.Ā  Republicans, get those ā€˜thoughts and prayers’ ready.Ā  Parents, wring your hands yet again.Ā  “Only in America”, as they say across the pond.

    • Unless they were coerced or somehow forced into doing it, I cannot imagine why anybody would volunteer to be on any firing squad. Yes, it does seem that humans are devolving rather than evolving these days. As technology evolves, humans spend more time letting it do their thinking for them.

  1. 131 school shootings in the US already JUST THIS YEAR! I say unapologetically we need to preserve a death penalty of some kind for such events. The fact is there are monsters in this world; real monsters capable of doing inconceivable acts of unspeakable violence to anyone including the elderly, women (most often) and even children. Children. The ones that think we have them covered, their safety is our highest priority and yet we can not even send them to SCHOOL or CHURCH, or to the f’n WALMART for Pete’s sake. I am not interested in rehabilitating them, or paying tax dollars to keep them in prison. They have destroyed lives; not simply of their victims, but of all of those that loved them as well. I know it isn’t a deterrent but I just don’t care.

Furthermore our elected officials flatly refuse to do anything even when an overwhelming majority of Americans agree action is necessary. After the Sandy Hook murders 5,6, & 7 year old children, – babies essentially – 91% of Americans were for added gun control, 91%! 91% of Americans can’t agree on the colors of the flag but they were together on this and yet Congress gave us nothing but the “thoughts & prayers” B.S. and the explanation that even with added gun control this still would have happened. That is a bold face lie. They are perfectly content with the slaughter of our children, family members and friends as long as the money from the NRA and the gun manufacturers continues to roll in. In the meantime we can hand out guns to virtually anyone and that’s ok with them.

We need to pass legislation that allows people to open carry in the halls of Congress. Anyone, anytime, any firearm. Let’s see how they deal with that.

    • I wish the answer was as simple as imposing an automatic death penalty for anyone who takes the life of another with a gun, but we both know that won’t happen, and it’s dealing with the problem after the fact. We need to head it off at the pass, before lives are lost. And the ONLY way to do that is to make it hard as hell to get a gun, especially an assault weapon. In fact, I still say assault weapons should be banned entirely from the civilian population. Do a house to house search and take every one of them! And as for other guns … really, the only people I can see having some level of justification are those who work late-night shifts and have to walk home afterward. That’s what, maybe 250 people nationwide? But Congress, at least half of Congress, accept money from the NRA to keep increasing the number of guns in the country, so … our lives matter less to them than the cockroach they stepped on while walking on the sidewalk. One member of Congress today shrugged his shoulders and said, “We can’t fix it.” Oh well, in other words, go to hell! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

  2. I thought ‘firing squad’ that’s familiar …..then beetleypete pointed out one historical use.
Also found on the net on a goggle search:
“The last inmate to be executed by firing squad in the U.S. was Ronnie Lee Gardner. He was executed at Utah State Prison on June 18, 2010, for killing an attorney during a courthouse escape attempt. Utah is the only state to have used firing squads in the past 50 years, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.”

It’s been around for a while. The chilling thought is a line of eager volunteers for the duty.

Meanwhile the slaughters of the innocents goes on.

  3. Gary Gilmore was executed by a firing squad in Utah, in 1977. It was his personal choice of execution method, instead of hanging. The squad was composed of five volunteers, who shot him using rifles, from a range of 20 feet.
In a country that owns more personal guns than it has people, that seems very appropriate to me.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  4. The Guilty Old President and all his ass-kissers keep pushing the envelope. It is getting more and more strained. It will burst. Hopefully in favour of people like you, because there will be no people like you if the Republicans ever come to power again!
Meanwhile, to answer the old Science Fiction question: “If this continues, what then?” The next logical step for the Republican Party is to repeal the law against murder. Not only will you be able to carry concealed weapons, but you will not be prosecuted if you use them…

    • I believe that you are right … maybe not if the Republicans “ever” come to power again, but certainly if Donald Trump is allowed to inhabit the Oval Office again, then people like me will cease to exist in this nation, else will exist as slaves to the wealthy and will be prosecuted for speaking out as I do here every day.

  5. I “like” this only because I agree with you … but definitely not for the scenarios you presented. šŸ˜–

And oh yes … another school shooting. But hey … honoring the Second Amendment is FAR more important than human lives, doncha’ know? Bang. Bang.

    • I understand … many a time my finger hesitates over the mouse button before clicking on ‘like’ because it’s not likeable at all, and neither are any of the snippets I presented here. Sigh. But alas, they are our new reality and we cannot ignore them, much as we might like to.
