The Circus Came To Town

Folks, there are over 18 months, precisely 565 days left until election day 2024 and already I am SICK AND TIRED of it.  Already, every day there are surveys, polls, projections, not to mention campaign promises and threats, even from those outliers who are about as likely as me to even be their party’s nominee!  If I never heard the names Trump, DeSantis, or Haley again, I could be quite content.  But the Republican circus show isn’t the only one in town.

Unfortunately, the maga-virus, one as deadly in its own way as the coronavirus, has now spread to the Democratic Party.  Two cases in point:  Marianne Williamson who declared her candidacy last month, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who declared his candidacy yesterday.  It is doubtful that either stands a snowball’s chance of being the ultimate nominee, but what they can and will do is pull some support away from President Biden, who has not yet formally declared his candidacy, but has said he intends to run for re-election.  Isn’t it bad enough to have a bunch of loud-mouthed clowns on the other side … do we really need them on this side, too?

Marianne Williamson ran a brief and lackluster campaign in 2020, dropping out in January 2020, ten months before the election.  Her education background is nil, having attended several colleges at different times, always dropping out before earning a degree.  Although she has run for both a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives (2014) and the presidential nomination (2020), she has never held a position in government.  Qualifications?  She has written 14 ‘self-help’ books, attempted a career as a cabaret singer, ran a “metaphysical bookstore/coffeeshop” (whatever the hell that is), and gives religious lectures throughout the U.S. and Europe.  Um … sorry, I see nothing there that qualifies her to lead a diverse nation of 330 million people!

Then there’s Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., riding on the coattails of his famous father, Robert “Bobby” Kennedy, and his two uncles, John F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy.  But believe me when I tell you that he is an apple that fell far from the Kennedy tree!  This Kennedy is not cut, as one writer put it, of the same “Ask what you can do for your country” cloth as his uncle, assassinated President John F. Kennedy, but rather has fallen into the dark pit of conspiracy theories, primarily surrounding vaccines and social media.

Kennedy at least has a few more qualifications than Ms. Williamson, having obtained a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia and a Master of Laws from Pace University.  His career has been spent as an environmental lawyer who has advocated for the protection of waterways, indigenous rights, and renewable energy.  Now, I’ll give credit where credit is due, and he earns a thumbs up for his views and efforts on behalf of the environment.  But then … he jumped on the conspiracy theory bandwagon, claiming that childhood vaccines, flouride in drinking water, and wireless communications lead to autism.  These theories have long since been scientifically debunked, but that hasn’t stopped Kennedy.

And then along came Covid, complete with restrictions, lockdowns, and vaccines.  Kennedy hopped on that conspiracy bandwagon as well, claiming that both Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation were trying to profit off a vaccine, and suggesting that Bill Gates would cut off access to money of people who do not get vaccinated, allowing them to starve.  In November 2021, Kennedy’s book The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health was published wherein Kennedy alleged, without presenting any plausible evidence, that Fauci sabotaged treatments for AIDS, violated federal laws, and conspired with Bill Gates and social media companies such as Facebook to suppress any information about COVID-19 cures, to leave vaccines as the only options to fight the pandemic.  🙄  At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, he sought to undermine public trust in vaccines, comparing government efforts to impose mandates in some places to “Hitler’s Germany.” Both Facebook and Instagram took down accounts of a group he runs for spreading medical misinformation.

Kennedy’s family overall does NOT support him in his campaign for president.  Several of Kennedy’s siblings and relatives are openly backing President Joe Biden for a second term. Three of them are diplomats for the Biden administration. Just a smattering of his children and grandchildren showed up for his campaign launch.  My best guess is that John, Bobby, and Ted are rolling over in their graves right about now.

Yep, the Democratic Party has its very own maga member now and it can only go downhill from here.  I don’t predict that either Ms. Williamson or Mr. Kennedy will even come close to winning the nomination, but they sure as hell can wreak some havoc in the interim.  So, welcome to ELECTION 2024, and brace yourselves for the next 565 days, for what you see today is but the beginning.

  1. Not surprising abour Williamson’s background, I mean, if the likes of Marg Traitor Gangrene can run, anyone can. All the clowns will come out in full force. My biggest concern are the polls already being taken that despite the good Biden has done, voters don’t want him to run. So if your Maggots claim power again, it will show that nobody has learned a damn thing. Remember, if Hilary was Prez, most of the nightmares being lived now from the toxic run-off of tRump wouldn’t exist. ❤

    • I share your biggest concern. Even the Democrats are not uniting behind Biden, but instead claim his age is the problem. All of which would be well and fine if … IF there were a younger, viable, exciting candidate who could win in 2024, but there isn’t. Ultimately, Biden will win the nomination and the Dems will rally behind him, but their doubts and negativity now will have an effect, for sure. Sigh … if Hillary had won in 2016 (she did win, but lost the Electoral College) the political landscape today would be so much different than it is. Donald Trump damaged this nation in ways that we may not recover from for decades or longer. We simply cannot give him a chance to do even worse! ❤

      • Conald damaged and changed the world. All countries are affected in some way by the behavior of the US. This next election is crucial for democracy to survive. Scary alternative. 😦 ❤

        • Exactly! People in the U.S. seem not to understand that we are all interconnected, no matter what continent or country, and what affects one, affects all. I keep hearing “America First” and it makes me want to throw something to wake these people up! We are all one, for Pete’s sake!!! Sigh. ❤

          • you have wrongly confused “america first” with “america alone”. America first does not mean America only, it precisely means that we need to take care of ourselves so that we can better assist others. but in some ways, we take care of others too well like with regime changes, trying to bring democrasy everywhere, being the worlds police, ETC and it’s all just silly.

Our world is more connected than it’s ever been and there’s a lot of good that has come from that but there are things that we need to just stop like funding proxy wars for starters, sending our money to other countries, let some of these people take care of themselves. Why should we do it/

            • Humans are humans wherever they live, and a war against civilians, the killing of innocent civilians and children, is an injustice that should stir all of us into action. Climate change is real and is already causing food and water shortages in some places on the globe … should we ignore them, let the people on the African continent simply die because, well, they’re not “Americans”? One of my favourite lines in John Lennon’s “Imagine” is “Imagine there’s no countries.”

When I found it there this morning, I removed it from Spam and approved it, so you should be able to see it now. Sometimes these things happen, but I only block comments if they are disrespectful to another reader or so far off the rails as to be offensive. I don’t believe I have ever blocked one of your comments.

        • No, the only time I hold back a comment is if it is rude or offensive to another reader, for I think that I have a responsibility to make this a safe space for reasonable dialog and a variety of viewpoints without people being cursed or treated like idiots. You’ve never overstepped that, nor do I think you would.

I edit/delete a LOT of comments, not just here, but on a lot of pages, on FB, Twitter, Substack notes, all over the place. Wish I could do that with my own mouth in real life LOL

    • I didn’t have 2 hours to watch his speech, but read a partial transcript. As I said in my post, he has some good views, but the conspiracy theory anti-vax stance takes him out of the running in my view. The last thing we need in the Oval Office is another conspiracy theorist like the one we had from 2017-2020.

      • I don’t believe he’s “anti-vax” he just said that the MRA technology wasn’t as effective as the drug companies told us. In other words, they lied and that’s something they must be held to account about.

  2. What? Marianne Williamson is going for the presidency? Wow! That’s cool! I had no idea, I only knew her from her books, and once I joined a lecture of her. She is amazing. I am surprised but also impressed that she goes into politics nor that she already was there.

    • I think this is one that you and I will just have to agree to disagree on! In my book, she has zero qualifications to lead a nation. Yes, she ran before and I remember, but she didn’t get far enough to even be considered a serious contender. I suspect it will be the same this time.

      • I simply cannot imagine her in such a position but I don’t know her well enough. So, who am I to judge. However, if she doesn’t have the qualifications it will be difficult regarding other candidates.

        Liked by 1 person

        • Well, she has no qualifications, and no name recognition either, so she is not even a serious contender, but will pull some votes no doubt. I’m sure she’s a decent person, but has no relevant education or experience. Of course, neither did Donald Trump, but let’s hope he is the outlier!!!

            • I agree with you that Trump is driven by ego, consider all the negative attention the media gives him. He feeds off that and they know that he does, yet they willingly perpetuate the cycle while still complaining that he’s taking all the oxygen in the room. It’s as if they’re oblivious to their actions in the vicious cycle and yet, they don’t want to take any responsibility in owning up to their parts in this catastrophe.

I don’t have the visceral hatred for the man that most of you do but that doesn’t mean that I’m a member of his stupid cult either. I can recognize that he did some good in foreign relations and economics but still hold the belief that he did a lot of things wrong, you know, that holding to the idea that two things can be true at the same time? something the left can’t seem to do on almost any level whatsoever.

              • Neither do I feel hatred. That’s not part of my person. Also, I am European living in Europe. So far, we are not affected by him anymore.
But over here we simply do not understand how someone like him got all this support to make it through 4 years by all the misbehaving, lying, and stupidity he blew in the air. It is still a phenomenon to me.

  3. They want to bury as in so much BS that we quit. We contemplated a decision, a good decision but we did not like it. I felt like you thought betrayed and I believed (wrongly) that reasons would ameliorate the pain. This frustration is not going to get better. Smartech will take the money as well, TFG will not be going to jail or even appear to receive justice with any regard. We must steel ourselves for the enemy will never tire. The warrior’s path is simple yet difficult. A warrior is tasked to chop wood and carry water everyday no matter what. I believe this is the path to Paradise. Every moment must be met with a warrior’s intent. I see the warrior spirit in you.

    • There are days, I must admit, that I feel like giving up, throwing in the towel and saying that “Americans” deserve what they get. But alas, I always come back after a few hours of frustration. I saw this evening a comment by one of Smartmatic’s lawyers saying they will NOT settle, that they will insist on a trial. We’ll see, but I kind of hope they do follow through with a trial. Yes, I have the warrior spirit … most days. Forgive me if sometimes I get overwhelmed.

    • I don’t think he’ll get far, but I thought the same as you … I’m surprised he’s not running as a Republican. It’s almost as if he’s trying to bring the Democratic Party down to the level of the Republican Party.

You two often bemoan the corruption in government, say that citizens united is bad, implying that it’s terrible for corporations to have an overly enormous voice in politics and these are things that he calls out in his speech and is campaigning against.

I really don’t understand your mindset in this matter, please help me understand your positions better.

        • First I don’t like lawyers making up science. John Snow was able to figure out that something was in the water 20 years before the invention of the microscope and microbiology. Robert has had 200 years to get the facts. Snow was big on handwashing too.
Second Autism is not a disease, it is a state of being different then the one most of us know. My grandson is a joy. Third Biden has done amazing things in stiff headwinds. Robert has kicked a heroin habit for which he is to be admired but addictive personalities are not presidential timber.
