Have you ever wondered how people in other countries view the chaos that dominates our landscape here in the U.S.? Our friend David, from across the pond, has some questions … questions for which I can only shake my head, for I don’t know the answers, either! Thank you, David, for your wisdom and views! We could learn a thing or two from you guys!
I woke at an unearthly hour again this morning. Damndawnchorus o’clock. My watch read 4.15 am. The news on mny computer tells me that Ron DeSantis the Governor of Florida has declated for President at last. How can this man who spends his time banning books, deciding how women should be allowed to treat their own bodies, and worse still, enforcing a rule that no white person should be allowed to face the realities of the history of their own country. He wants to rewrite history so that no white person can be offended or shocked by what has gone before. Please someone explain to me , how can this man who is not even suitable to be a Governor declare an interest in the Presidency of the United States and have the backing of so many people, not least Elon Musk who has put the power of Twitter behind…

Thank you for sharing!.. DeSantis, Trump and others too numerous to mention, be they local, state or federal, are seeking power and have a venue to try to achieve that power.. 🙂
As I have said in the past, it all falls to a element of the people, a desperate element that is based on belief /ideology with no concrete foundation or physical element to support that belief/ideology.. They will stop at nothing to maintain that belief /ideology and as knowledge and technology improves on a daily basis, they see that belief/ideology as being threatened and will attempt to put in power anyone that will defend and support their belief/ideology..the Trumps and others use that to follow their personal ambitions, caring little for the country as a whole… 🙂
If one will do some careful research one will find similarities with the above mentioned people and those currently in power in Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan and other countries.. 🙂
Hope all is well in your part of the universe and until we meet again..
May your troubles be less
Your blessings be more
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door

Thanks, Dutch! Yes, I know you are right, but the question is … how do we convince these people that their own beliefs/ideologies are hurting everyone, including themselves and their future generations? They seem to have been brainwashed to believe the lies they are told, and nothing that I’ve seen changes their mind. Sigh. Many thanks for the Irish Saying, Dutch … have a wonderful weekend!

There is a lot of good happening in this world but unfortunately it does not make headlines so it remains in the background.. 🙂
If you research some of the countries I mentioned (and you see traces of it here in the USA) the elements I refer to use silencing (or at least trying to) any voice that may oppose or disagree with their ideology/thinking.. 🙂
That being said, keep posting the good things people do and never let anyone silence your voice, let your fingers to the walking and your heart do the talking… 🙂
Have a wonderful day every day and until we meet again..
May the dreams you hold dearest
Be those which come true
May the kindness you spread
Keep returning to you

Jill’s and your brand of common sense is uplifting Dutch but you preach mainly to the converted. We need to spread the kindness to the ears of those who would overthrow legitimate Government and let them seethere is more to be gained withhonesty and kindness than with telling lies about good people and accepting the death of so many innocents to keep weapons in the hands of those who should not have them. Hugs to you.

Yep, therein lies the problem. As our late friend, Hugh, used to tell me, I’m spitting into the wind, or preaching to the choir. Those who need to hear the messages aren’t listening. Sigh. Cwtch

Hey David,
Well, I visit Jill’s place and share my thoughts with her and anyone that wishes to listen… 🙂
My blog is open to the universe and anyone who wishes to visit and read (I have received comments, etc. from folks around the world)… I cannot, nor will not, force anyone to visit, as the saying goes “one can lead the horse to water but cannot make the horse drink” and I have furnished the water and the door is open so it is up to the horse now… 🙂 🙂
Have a wonderful day, every day!… 🙂

Yes, you are right, of course … it just seems that the good is diminishing, being shoved aside by the evil. Now, I have a confession … just this week I began thinking about giving up my ‘good people’ posts. For one thing, while the good people used to fall into my lap, it’s now much harder to find those stories, those people. For another … it sometimes sees so … pointless, so trivial in light of everything happening in the world today. I hadn’t yet decided one way or the other, but you’ve scored a point in favour of keeping it up a while longer, at least. And you KNEW I needed that song today, didn’t you? I’ve always loved it, and it is just what the doctor ordered today! Thank you so much, my friend!

That could mean you two have very little awake time together! I’ve become quite the night owl since I retired in 2008 … I do my best writing late at night when the house is quiet and I can actually think.

That’s why I get up at 4 a.m. It’s quiet. The neighborhood is quiet & I can think. I do most of my writing in the early mornings. Unless I’m up at midnight, like now LOL

Same here! Up until about 11:00 p.m., daughter Chris is still up, so that automatically means the t.v. is on, and the idiot down the street who thinks his loud muffler is cool is going back and forth. After 11:00, though, it gets so blissfully quiet!

Like David, I am from England. I ask the same questions about America.
But I also ask questions about England, flabbergasted that poor working class people in deprived areas voted for the current corrupt government of thieves and multi-millionaires who are asset-stripping Britain and openly mocking the poor. I ask why, and the only answer I can come up with is blind ignorance and racism.
Best wishes, Pete.

I think that no nation is without troubles, and since Brexit I know you’ve had your share in the UK. And when you get down to the very root of it, both our problems and yours have some of the same root causes. Yes, ignorance and racism certainly play a role and much of today’s troubles in both our countries hail back to the Arab Spring movement, immigration, racism, etc. Another major cause, though, is greed/wealth. Too many people are lured into believing that if they help the wealthy, the wealth will ‘trickle down’ to them, and they are ignorant of the fact that it will never happen. If we could educate people, get them to understand many things, like equality, we could fix the problems, but I don’t look for it to ever happen. People are stubborn critters.

My motto for democracy is still: If he cannot vote, and if she cannot vote, then I will not vote. Gerrymandering has been tried in Canada, but we won’t put up with it. At least so far!
Next time the Conservatives get into power federally (I hope they never do) they will probably try to fix the voting polls to profit them, they want so badly to be Republicans. But watch what will happen!

And I still disagree. If he cannot vote, and if she cannot vote, then I will fight harder for their right to vote, and meanwhile, I WILL VOTE for people who will help restore voting rights to everyone! Boycotting the vote is a meaningless gesture that only makes matters worse, rather like some people’s “protest votes” for a third-party candidate who has no possible path to winning.

Ah, but you believe in democracy — that it works. I do not! It’s the best thing we have right now, but that is not good enough for me!

It’s been proven to work, but it takes the right people in power, and THAT is where our responsibility as voters comes in. I think, though, that we also need to find a way to be educators, to show those who would vote for autocrats and cruel dictators the fallacy in their views, show them the lies they are being told. Surely you are voting in the Alberta election? When is it again?

In my mind, what you really need is to prevent autocrats and other a ti-democracy types from even running. But I know the USA will never do that, so educating voters is a good Plan B, also as useless as Plan A! That leaves Plan C, become benevolent autocrats yourselves, and keep power by outlawing elections!
(I am only half joking!)

Agreed … but … who decides? Humans are so easily corrupted that I don’t know as we could trust a person or even a panel to decide who’s eligible to run. Just look at the current Supreme Court … they prove my point. As re the “benevolent autocrats” … you should ask David about his BLoW plan!!! You’d love it!

If these proto Republicans ever geet back into majority power thety will probably work with SCOTUS to have all the gerrymandering made legal and left outside Federal power so the States cab suit themselves who can/cannot vote. They will never play fair. Hugs.

Fighting for eveyone’s right to vote is what I am talking about. Right now those who have lost their right to vote are feeling abandoned.
Conservatives/Republicans do not play fair. The thing to do is to show their followers how evil they are! The tning to do is to protect democracy first!

I wonder how people from other countries view the chaos in France???
Same sh.t (pardon my French) it’s just spreading…
All well?
How’s the walking going?

I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing about the same way they viewed Brexit. I like Macron, but I’ve not been too pleased with some of his actions of late. Walking? Not good. I’m so shaky of late that it’s just not a good idea for me to take off down the street, when I nearly lost my balance and fell on the back patio while feeding the critters this morning. Sigh.

I don’t think Macron has any idea what to do. That’s the main problem. But then the others are wors.
Sorry about your “near-miss”. You did not actually fall did you?

I think you’re right … these are not easy times to lead a nation, are they? No, I was able to put my hand on the wall and steady myself, but something just is not right these days. But enough about me … how are you and your family doing, my friend?

It seems quite a few countries are flirting with the far rightthese days but none have the aggravated disaster of constant gunfire at innocent targets that America does. If the Republicans get back inn and gut even more gun control it will be like the Wild West again.
