Well, the news as I write this tonight is that Kevin McCarthy and President Biden have reached an agreement to raise the debt ceiling until after next year’s elections, each side doing a bit of give-and-take. Don’t get too excited, though … the bill isn’t completely written yet, then it goes to the House, possibly as early as this morning, and they will have until probably Wednesday to peruse it and decide whether to vote ‘yea’ or ‘nay’. Since the House members are on leave due to the holiday, it may take them longer. Then, if it passes the House, it goes to the Senate and must pass there, too … not as easy a task as you might think. And then, it goes back to President Biden for signature. All of this must happen prior to June 5th, a week from Monday, in order to avoid defaulting on our debt. Will it? I have doubts that it will go smoothly, but I suspect that like the annual budget negotiations, it will be resolved at the 11th hour. We shall see. Meanwhile, I have a few political cartoons that I need to share, and now seems as good a time as any! Be sure to check out the very last one about Josh Hawley — it’s a hoot!!!

I was curious about that last one … I had no idea he had written a book, so I did some digging. Josh Hawley has, indeed, written a book titled … wait for it … Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs

Josh Hawley, the ‘man’ who fist-pumped the rioters from behind a safe fence, then ran for his life once they breached the Capitol! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thanks Jill. I love the “little cartoony” one as well as the sad “Birth of a Nation” one. Keith

They are a sad statement of our current situation, especially the “Birth of a Nation” one.

Lock him up, some of the convicts would just be dying to impress these masculine virtues on him.

That’s the ultimate thing I keep hoping for any number of our politicians, starting with Trump! But yeah, Hawley would be their “boy-toy” for sure!

I see us sitting on the doorsteps discussing those things that still puzzle us.
(Like why do ladies ask us about the clothes they are wearing when they know we’ll give the wrong answer😕)

Oh yes, I can see it perfectly! Oh, and the reason we ask those things is that we are hoping for a compliment. Silly us, we have yet to figure out that you guys, caught off guard, will always manage to say the wrong thing or the right thing but in the wrong tone of voice!

Yep! That we do.
And we never get the timing right:
A split second too early and it’s
‘Oh you are just saying that. You didn’t even look properly!!’
A second too late and it’s
‘Ha! You had to think about that didn’t you? You don’t really like it do you?’
Tip to younger men out there. When faced with this, buy for time by faking a sneezing fit and blame your own deodorant or after-shave, or something that is yours (not the lady’s, for goodness sake!)
🙂

Well, at least you understand what you’re doing wrong! That is half the battle! The sneezing fit might work a time or two, but we women are no dummies (well, actually, some are, but that’s a whole ‘nother topic for a ‘nother day) and we’ll catch on by the 3rd or 4th time!

I agree a man should never overdo the business. Once or twice will give him time to think up other useful response such as….
The thoughtful look with head to one side and then
‘Y’know, that old word ‘fetching’ has come into my head, and it started, I know it might sound odd, but have you ever heard an Association song ‘No Fair At All” nervous laugh ‘Yeah,’ and with a nervous smile just look at your lady.
Again it should never be overdone.
Flexibility is the only way out young man.
