After Roger’s rather dark post of yesterday afternoon about the song “House at PooNeil Corner”, he let me know that he would really welcome this song sometime soon to bring a bit of balance to his mood! I had actually wanted to play it last week, but since I knew Roger was working on his post, I held off, but now seems the perfect time for a happy, uplifting song, don’t you think? So this one’s for you, Roger! Enjoy!
Who cannot love both Kenny Loggins and Winnie The Pooh? When you combine the two, you have … sheer magic!
From Wikipedia …
“House at Pooh Corner” is a song written by Kenny Loggins, based on the popular children’s book of the same name. The song was first performed by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on their 1970 album Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy and then performed by Loggins and Messina on their 1971 album Sittin’ In. It is told from the perspective of both Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin, and serves as an allegory for loss of innocence and nostalgia for childhood. It has since become one of Loggins’ most popular and beloved compositions, and it remains a staple of his live performances.”
House at Pooh Corner
Loggins and Messina
Christopher Robin and I walked along
Under branches lit up by the moon.
Posing our questions to Owl and Eeyore
As our days disappeared all too soon.
But I’ve wandered much further today than I should
And I can’t seeem to find my way back to the wood.
So, help me if you can I’ve got to get
Back to the house at Pooh corner by one.
You;d be surprised there’s so much to be done,
Count all the bees in the hive,
Chase all the clouds from the sky.
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh.
Winnie the Pooh doesn’t know what to do,
Got a honey jar stuck on his nose.
He came to me asking help and advice
And from here no one knows where he goes.
So I sent him to ask of te Owl if he’s there,
How to loosen a jar from the nose of a bear
So, help me if you can I’ve got to get
Back to the house at Pooh corner by one
You’d be surprised there’s so much to be done,
Count all the bees in the hive,
Chase all the clouds from the sky .
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh,
Back to the days of Christopher Robin,
Back to the ways of Pooh

So I was thinking to myself….I’m missing something this week, then it struck me this afternoon.
The song you put up, for me too! Durn my stupid memory again!
Thanks so much Jill. This is just plain enchanting. Love it. ♥️♥️♥️

I wondered! I didn’t think you had seen the post, or if you had, you hadn’t commented on it. No worries, Sir Roger … I have the same problems with my memory! Sometimes I’ll be thinking about posting a certain song, only to find out I posted it a week ago and didn’t remember doing it! Glad you enjoyed the “House At Pooh Corner”!

Yes, sorry about that Jill. Getting side-tracked is my problem:

Always one of my favorite songs. NGDB did a cover of Mr Bojangles on the album too I believe.

Funny that you mention Mr. Bojangles, as Carolyn mentioned it last night, too! I’m so glad you liked this one, though!

“Clouds” by Joni Mitchell has popped into my mind. This music makes me nostalgic which come with a degree of sadness. I think we thought things would get better and that we were the ones that would do it. I don’t feel successful. I should have been better.

I know just how you feel, for I am the same. Once upon a time, we thought we were the ones who would make a difference, and here we are some 50 years later and everything is even worse than before. I’m not sure we could have been better, for wealth and power were stacked against us … still are.

Not an excuse I am able to employ unfortunately. The deck was stacked in my favor from the beginning, and I should have done better. My grandfather told me “once you make your first million, rich all you’ll want to do is make a second.” How can you know what enough is if all you know is enough? A lot of us got spoiled. Less spoilers now so a better future is still in view.
If your going to do Manilow do “Copacabana”

Ahhhh … I see more clearly where you’re coming from and can only say that at least you see the error of your ways, at least you’ve opened your eyes, which some people born into privilege never do! I was not born into privilege, although my childhood wasn’t one of deprivation, but in my adulthood I have known strife and even a brief period of homelessness. Copacabana, eh? I think I can manage that one!

You never heard it before, either? Wow … several readers hadn’t … glad I could introduce you to it! Does T like Winnie the Pooh?

He’s familiar with Pooh and has a Tigger doll but not overly into it at this time.

I have never heard this before. It’s a sweetie, and enhanced by the setting in the video, and the children’s faces. However, the main thing that struck me in the video was what a beautiful head of hair Kenny has!

Ha ha … I’m with you on Kenny’s hair … and face … and just about everything about him! I’m surprised by the number of people who had never heard this before, but then it didn’t chart at all outside the U.S. … probably wasn’t even played in the EU and Australia! I’m glad you liked it, though!

I’m not surprised … but, you could just take an extra unit or two of insulin to offset the sugary sweetness of the song! 😉 Cwtch

I’m surprised by how many have not heard it before! It didn’t chart outside the U.S. and Canada, and didn’t make the top ten, but it did chart in the 30s. Did you like it? Hugs ‘n cheers!

Jill, we have a greatest hits CD of Loggins and Messina and this song always brought a smile to my wife and I as we travelled with it on. And, one of my favorite songs is “Danny’s Song,” off that same album. Keith

When you mentioned this the other day it rang vague bells, so I looked it up and remembered why. A guy on my corridor at uni had the NGDB Uncle Charlie album and played it a lot. I was into country rock even then, with the likes of the Byrds, Poco and Eagles, so this was a band I liked too. From memory, I preferred their version to Loggins’ own, though.
And you were expecting me to say I hated it, weren’t you 🤣

🤣🤣 Yes, as it happens, I was pretty sure you would hate it!!! You are a man of many facets and often surprise me! Next time I play this, I’ll include the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band version, as well!

Just keeping you on your toes! As it happens, I think the NGDB have done better songs than this, but in fifty plus years that probably isn’t surprising.

And you do that so well, Clive! Oddly, I can’t remember much that NGDB did at all … must not have made much of an impression on me.

They’re a country rock band so may not have been all that close to your radar.

One word: WOW!!! When you pick a song, you pick a SONG! I had never heard it before, but I was amazed! Thank you, both for giving me a song tomorrow and introducing me to a new artist/song! There’ll be a bonus for you in your pay packet! 😉

If you don’t like that song then I suggest “I write the songs” by Barry Manilow or Delilah by Tom Jones. 🙂
