Monster

Can you read this without tears?  I couldn’t.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Multiple law enforcement agencies are at the scene of a shooting involving children in Clermont County.

County dispatchers said a 911 call reported a shooting on Laurel Lindale Road in Monroe Township at around 4:15 p.m. Thursday. The sheriff’s office said the woman who called screamed that “her babies had been shot.” A few minutes later, a passerby also called 911 to report that a juvenile girl was running down the road saying that “her father was killing everyone.”

When they arrived, sheriff’s deputies made contact with 32-year-old Chad Doerman, who was sitting outside of a home. He was taken into custody.

The sheriff’s office said first responders discovered three boys who had been shot in the yard. The sheriff’s office said all life-saving measures were “unsuccessful” and all three boys died at the scene. They are aged 3, 4 and 7.

A fourth person, the boys’ 34-year-old mother, was located outside the home with a gunshot wound to the hand. She was taken to UC Medical Center, where Sheriff Robert S. Leahy later notified her that her sons had died.

The sheriff’s office said Doerman is the father of the three children.

I read that last night and was heartbroken … how could any father do that to his own children?  Then this morning it was reported that he confessed he has been planning this for months!  This is not a man, it is a monster!

  1. I’ve struggled over your post for a few days now, wondering why it has affected me so much. Today I worked it out. I don’t think it’s appropriate to share why here (I’ve posted an article on my own blog), but thank you for giving me the courage to speak about a concern that I didn’t realise was troubling me so much.

    • I read your post and commented there. I’m sorry that it was my post that caused you to struggle, but you did some deep thinking there, and I, too, would ask the question you ask at the end of your post.

  2. According to the hardcore of the pro-gun lobby this ought not have happened because by some goodliness his evil deeds would have been brought to light earlier and had he dared to use his gun someone of which there are many would have expertly shot him down.
And then sweet little angelic figures would have come to comfort his children.
Of course there are those equally as evil and monstrous as him who say it’s all fake anyway and actors were involved.
    Angry?
Angry, doesn’t even cover what I feel.
I don’t buy into any excuses he claims…if it had been for months he had a choice to do something to stem those feelings.

    • Oh yeah … that “good guy with a gun” theory … how could I have forgotten? But … but … where WAS the “good guy”??? 99.9% of the time when a shooting such as this takes place, there is NO good guy, let alone one with a gun, anywhere near.

I better not hear anybody claim this was a “false flag”, that it didn’t really happen … this is too tragic for such malarky! I cannot even begin to imagine how the boys’ sister and mother are coping … I think I would have killed myself by now if I were the mother!

Like you, I am enraged, furious, and give no quarter for him having “mental health issues”. I do understand that mental health issues can cause people to act in ways they otherwise wouldn’t, but even the most deranged person KNOWS it is WRONG to kill children!!! I’ll keep you updated on this one when there is more news.

  3. He’s not a monster. He’s a typical abuser. They come dime a dozen. I’m sure he’s quite charming at times. Sweet, kind, loving. & now he’s remorseful & tearful. Of course he is.

Read Lundy Bancroft’s Why Does He Do That? … the definitive book on abusive & angry & controlling & entitled men. This book changed my life … saved my life.

    • Nah … “typical” abusers hurt their victims, but they don’t kill their children, at least the kind you’re talking about, the “dime-a-dozen” garden variety. This guy is, in fact, a monster. Anybody who could shoot three children is a monster, but when they were his own children, it makes him even more so. I will check out the book, but probably won’t read it, for my TBR list is already several hundred books long and I’m not likely to live long enough to read them all!

    • It is sad … tragic. The mother and sister of those boys will never forget what they saw, will see it again and again in their sleep. I simply cannot imagine the hell they are going through right now. 😞

  4. There was another down in Tennessee yesterday 6 dead in a murder suicide where woman tried to get help but died in attack. Mindless evil facilitated by easy access to guns.

    • Yes, I saw that … 3 children and 3 adults killed by a man who had a protection order out against him already! You hit the nail on the head: Mindless evil facilitated by easy access to guns. Sadly, nothing is likely to change any time soon.

  5. Whatever the insane ‘motive’, being able to gain access to guns made this horrible act easier for the perpetrator. Yes, he could have killed them by other means, but that would have required a different mindset to just lining them up and shooting them. Remove the guns, and you start to make life so much more difficult for murderers.
But we all know that will never happen in America, not even if he had shot 200 children.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • Exactly right, Pete. I’ve often said I’d much rather face an angry man with a knife, for he has to get within reach to harm me and I might stand a chance by running away, but nobody can outrun a gun, especially today’s assault weapons. And this guy had a prior domestic violence charge, so even the barest minimum of laws, if enforced, would have kept him from owning a gun … maybe. No, I’ve concluded it won’t happen here, at least not any time soon, as we sadly have a culture that truly worships guns.

  6. it’s never easy to understand, why parents would do such horrible things to their own young, because, parents ARE, supposed to love their children, unconditionally, but, this is the harsh realities of things, guns are, too prevalent in the U.S., and there will be, more and more shootings occurring in the neighborhoods (even those with the white picket fences) all over the United States, but there’s still NO tougher gun control laws, nor the restricted rules of purchasing a firearms, and that’s why, these things are still, happening, and, maybe, the man was mentally ill but didn’t get the treatment he’d needed, that was why he’d done what he had, and now, we will, NEVER know W-H-Y!

    • Agreed that a near-complete lack of gun laws, and a lack of enforcement of what few gun laws we do have, is partly to blame. As I understand it, he had previously been charged with domestic abuse, so red flag laws would have kept him from owning a gun, maybe, but then there are private gun sales that are not even recorded or monitored, so maybe not. The U.S. is unique (and insane) in its worship of guns. We may yet find out his motive, since he is likely to be in police custody for the rest of his life.

  7. Three little children /shot/. Could this…this…thing have happened if the person wielding the gun had not had a gun? If he had to kill all three kids with his bare hands, is it not possible that one or two could have escaped? Run away? Hid?
The father is a monster, but the system that helped him do his gruesome work is a monster too.

  8. This is not the first time something like this happens. It seems that men can feel trapped and not able to take care of their families and then decide to kill the whole family including themselves. The latter does not always happen. I also think why don’t they kill themselves only instead of making that decision for the other members of the family.
One of those cases was even made into a movie. The man had been out of work for months and didn’t tell his wife. He claimed to be working for WHO. He loved his children, but thought they would get a bad life if he couldn’t provide for them, or so he said.
Grownups do a lot of terrible things to their children, sometimes even in the name of God. One more reason to allow abortions.

    • I’m with you … if they feel so trapped that they need to kill, they should kill themselves — they would, obviously, be doing their families a big favour! What is the name of that movie? The story rings a bell, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. And yes … one more reason that abortion should be legal and decided by the woman, not the man!

  9. Too many men take out their angry/jealous/inadequate feelings against their partners in life via the method that will hurt them the most … the children.

  10. Worse than tragic! Why only the boys, or was the girl lucky enough to escape?
At least they got this guy alive. Maybe he can explain why.. WTF just doesn’t say enough!

    • I don’t know how that came to pass, but today they said he lined them up, execution style, and started shooting. One of the boys ran and he caught him, brought him back next to his brothers, then shot him, too. I hope he never sees the light of day again, but even that isn’t enough, for it will not bring these children back to life.

  11. Heartbroken is the first word that pierces through the shock and sadness. WTF are other words that rise fast, followed by ‘why’, ‘I don’t understand’, and then I’m back to wordless contemplative sadness.

    • Your range of emotions is very much like mine were upon first reading that last night. Just a while ago, the local news station posted a picture of the three boys and that brought a fresh round of sadness/anger.
