Y’know, when we go to the polls every other November to vote for people to become our senators and representatives in Congress, we expect them to take their oaths of office seriously, to legislate in what they truly believe is the best interest of not only their district or state, but the entire nation, for the bills they pass will affect people in every state from coast to coast. And when we get up each morning and go to work to that we can earn a living, knowing that a percentage of our earnings will be withheld for taxes, and part of those tax dollars will be used to pay these people we elected, we expect them to earn those salaries and related perks. We rightly expect them to act in a professional and honest manner, to do the job we are paying them to do … to act like adults.
When I look at the shenanigans going on in the House of Representatives today, I do not see a professional body of lawmakers, but rather a circus show filled with clowns. Since the 118th Congress took their seats six months ago, very little actual work has been done in the House of Representatives. Instead, they are wasting time with crap that serves absolutely no purpose and would be better suited to a show at a Barnum & Bailey circus.
A few examples …
Since certain members of the ignoble “House Freedom Caucus” did not like the fact that Kevin McCarthy finally came to the table with President Biden to agree to terms for raising the debt ceiling and preventing a major economic disaster that would have roiled the nation and sent shock waves throughout the world, they decided not to do their job for a while. Nope, they refused to even consider doing such things as working on new legislation or bringing anything to the floor for discussion or for a vote. In effect, we had no functional Congress.
A CNN headline reads, “It’s censure and impeachment season again”.
More recently, just this week, the House ‘censured’ Representative Adam Schiff. Schiff is, from everything I’ve seen, a serious lawmaker who has the interests of the nation at heart, and his ‘censure’ was issued for … doing his job. The House Republicans claim that Schiff “falsely” accused ex-president Donald Trump of collusion with Russia during the 2016 election. Seriously? The evidence is clear that there was collusion between the Trump campaign/family and Russia in the runup to the election. I thought we had put that one to bed with the Mueller report, but apparently House Republicans haven’t bothered to stay informed. The reality is that Adam Schiff led Trump’s first impeachment trial and the Republicans have never quite forgiven him, and then to add insult to injury, he served on the January 6th committee! The initial movement to censure Schiff would have imposed a $16 million fine on Schiff, which was ultimately ruled unconstitutional, so they removed the fine, tried again, and this time the censure passed muster. Schiff took it all in stride, saying, “Your words tell me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy, and I am grateful.” THAT is the mark of a professional, the kind we need more of in Congress. A man who takes his oath of office seriously.
And then there’s this UTTERLY RIDICULOUS motion brought by clown Lauren Boebert to impeach President Biden. Now, talk about a clown show … a bit of background. Margie Greene has filed impeachment charges against President Biden a total of six times, the first being the day after his inauguration. When Lauren Boebert brought her impeachment she did so by filing a “privileged resolution” that allows a member to bypass House leadership to bring a measure to the floor. Her ‘reason’ was she doesn’t like his immigration and border policies. The measure would not have passed in the House, but instead of bringing it to the floor, the House voted to refer it to committee, stalling any further action for now. But then Greene and Boebert got into a shouting match on the House floor … with Greene calling Boebert a “little bitch” and saying she stole her own articles of impeachment. Apparently they nearly came to blows and disrupted the business of the House for several minutes, not that the House gets much actual business done anyway.
Yesterday, two representatives, Elise Stefanik and Margie Greene (doesn’t this woman ever shut up???) introduced resolutions to expunge both of Trump’s impeachments! Poof! Just make them disappear … impeachment? What impeachment? This, like the effort to impeach Biden, is about as likely to pass as I am to sprout wings and fly, but the point is … look at how they are spending their time and our hard-earned tax dollars!!! I say to each and every one of them: GROW THE F*CK UP!!!! DO YOUR JOB, OR GET THE HELL OUT!!!
These are just a few of the things they are wasting time playing games with, and they are NOT the sort of things we elected them to do nor that we work hard to earn money to pay them for!!! These frivolous moves are naught but distractions from the serious problems they ought to be addressing, and attempts to gain attention, to keep themselves in the spotlight. A damned circus is what they are turning our legislature into! Please, my friends, let’s vote these clowns out of office next year!!! Our sanity depends on it!

Koolaid drinkers voted for the do nothing criminals except makeup phoney investigations on bullshit because there isn’t a brain between them. but people vote them in. That’s the scary thing, almost half your country has drank the Koolaid and still sending Mango Maniac contributions to pay his legal fees, while they don’t have food or teeth, and Master Treasonous Mango flies around in his toy airplane. THERE IS NO HOPE FOR THOSE PEOPLE. 😦 XX

Or their brains have been well washed by the rhetoric and lies of the Republican Party. It IS a scary thing, especially when I watch the deterioration of the body of government that costs us millions of dollars every year, that is supposed to be working in our best interests, turn our government into a circus show. We will soon be no better than any third-world country and the people will still be wearing their blinders and singing ♫la la la la la la♫ Sigh. xx

It has increasingly become difficult to take American politics seriously in the past while. I think it largely has to do with the tone set by the last President and the media and social media circus that continues in its wake. Sigh. And hugs!

I can certainly understand that, Ab. We are, no doubt, the laughingstock of the western world right about now. Sadly, people being fed a steady diet of lies, they are buying into the b.s. and I’m not sure I see an end to the madness in sight anymore. Oh, by the way, did you get my email? Hugs, my friend.

For sure! History shows that things are cyclical and this will turn itself around I have faith.
I did get your email. I’ll send something over soon. 🙂

Indeed, I’ve often said that the Chinese belief that history is cyclical seems to be spot-on these days. It will turn itself around, but … at what cost? There will be a price to be paid for our perfidy. Sigh.
Got it!!! Will respond soon!

It is a circus and it’s hurting our country and the future of our children, but a lot of people don’t care anymore, and a lot of people don’t care about the truth anymore. I think rightwing talk shows and think tanks combined with the gullability of the public took us down this road.

You’re right … a lot of people have become inured, overwhelmed, and just no longer care. I think that is part of the Republican’s plan, if they can be said to have a plan. Simply overwhelm the general public until they put on their rosy-coloured glasses and refuse to see, refuse to even look at what is happening around the country, specifically in Congress. I have friends like that who just no longer care … they tell me to stop worrying, that one way or another it will all work out. I wonder if that’s what the average person in Germany thought in 1933?

Greene and Norbert at each others hair? Aside from them putting back Women’s progress back 100 years or more they have both failed to display qualities to judge them fit to represent their voters.
Which says a lot about those who vote for them.
Did I mention Norbert committed blasphemy last year?

Boebert, not Norbert! Boebert … the one who runs a bar in Colorado called “Shooters” where the wait staff all sport guns on the belts! But yeah, neither Boebert nor Greene are shining examples of women today … they are … well, I won’t say the word here, but you know what I mean. Both are getting divorces as we speak because they cheated on their husbands … two peas in a pod. And it DOES speak volumes about those who voted them into office. They say that ignorance is bliss … in which case both Georgia and Colorado (and many other states like Florida and Texas) must have a lot of blissful people!!!

Ah I mis-typed. So what though? I mean does this in political terms silly, little bratty air-head deserve any thing other than contempt.
Greene and Boebert- this song is for you…
Lyrics:
I’m not talking about the kind of clothes she wears
Look at that stupid girl
I’m not talking about the way she combs her hair
Look at that stupid girl
The way she powders her nose
Her vanity shows and it shows
She’s the worst thing in this world
Well, look at that stupid girl
I’m not talking about the way she digs for gold
Look at that stupid girl
Well, I’m talking about the way she grabs and holds
Look at that stupid girl
The way she talks about someone else
That she don’t even know herself
She’s the sickest thing in this world
Well, look at that stupid girl
Well, I’m sick and tired
And I really have my doubts
I’ve tried and tried
But it never really works out
Like a lady in waiting to a virgin queen
Look at that stupid girl
She bitches ’bout things that she’s never seen
Look at that stupid girl
It doesn’t matter if she dyes her hair
Or the color of the shoes she wears
She’s the worst thing in this world
Well, look at that stupid girl
Shut-up, shut-up, shut-up, shut-up, shut-up
Shut-up, shut-up, shut-up, shut-up, shut-up
Shut-up, shut-up, shut-up
Like a lady in waiting to a virgin queen
Look at that stupid girl
She bitches ’bout things that she’s never seen
Look at that stupid girl
She purrs like a pussycat
Then she turns ’round and hisses back
She’s the sickest thing in this world
Look at that stupid girl

Wow, Roger!!! It’s almost as if that song were written just for Greene and Boebert!!!

Written in 1966, it was a rant about the girls Jagger and Richards were hooking up with. Which made it a whinny sort of song and ‘Gee guys. You keep picking them,’
But 57 years on, sadly the apt kind of ‘girls’ are turning up.
There’s also one by Pink with the same title, but that’s more about the vapid kind who would just giggle if they were asked to make any sort of political comment and change the subject….. Actually although slightly annoying company infinitely preferable to G & B

We all know there are some people like that … not only girls, either. But I never thought they would be elected to seats in Congress!!! I tell ya, Roger, there is something toxic in the air that causes people to just lose all their common sense!!!

Once it starts it spreads quickly and is difficult to contain. Trying to come up with a solution is like trying to collect fog and put it in a box.

Because, we held, such a, high expectation for those we vote for, they are, destined to, not live up to what we believe they will, do for us, and, we tell our selves, that, we will, never again, vote for them, because of how they, disappointed us this time, and by the next time, voting comes around, we still, held that, high expectation, like we had the, previous times, and, we still, end up getting, disappointed, because, all of these, politicians, have only, one thing on their minds, to get into, office, nothing more. Each and every term, we still get, locked, inside that, air-tight, vacuum, thinking our votes would, make a, difference, when, it actually, does, not…

You may be right … perhaps our expectations are unrealistic. However, I don’t think it’s unrealistic to at least expect honesty and integrity from those we elect, those whose salaries we pay. If that’s too much to ask, then … why even bother?

It is very much the same here, a circus.
Two party leaders of parties that our present head of state wanted to work together with so that she could be head of state again claimed that they would agree only, if she, the head of state, would be investigated for her role in the mink scandal. But what happened? They both got minister posts and dropped the investigation demand. One of them even got promoted to vice head of state, which doesn’t really exist in Denmark. They lost a lot of sympathy from their voters, of course, many left the parties. The so called vice head of state got so much heat from his constituency that he decided to be sick with stress for months on end (with full pay, of course). Usually our politicians claim that the “circumstances” didn’t allow them to carry through what they had promised. At the next election they make new promises and get re-elected. People forget too quickly or just want to believe.
And what happens now? The same shameless lady head of state is a candidate for the head of NATO. Beware world, here comes a war monger! A ruthless, shameless woman, ready to tell any lie necessary to get what she wants.

Needless to say, my knowledge of politics in Denmark at present is sub-par, but on reading your comment, I did a bit of digging. From the little bit I read of her, she seems a bit of a bigot and a hypocrite, and I cannot see her as replacing Stoltenberg, for whom I’ve always had much respect. I never realized until tonight that Denmark had some of the same issues and controversies we have here in the U.S.

Politicians (and people in general) are the same all over the world, in good and bad, no matter what colour, creed or culture. That’s why racism is so stupid.

I think Barnum and Baileys was a mucch more professional outfit than your current Congress. After all, most of them had to train for years and kkep the training current for h sake of Safety as well as entertainment. I see nothing at all entertaining from Congress and think they should be ashamed of themselves. Hugs

You are absolutely right … our clowns are amateurs! No, Congress today, or at least the House today, is more a dark, brooding show than anything with any degree of humour. I begin to wonder if their end goal isn’t to depress the majority of us so badly that we all kill ourselves, leaving only the nutcases to carry on.
