Ramblings From The Bouncy Mind

I spend a good deal of time each day perusing the news, with a particular interest in the politics here in the U.S.  More often than not, my daily reading sets my teeth on edge and brings more musings and questions than it provides answers.  Yesterday was no exception, and left me with a bit of what I call ‘mind bounce’, whereby I cannot seem to focus on just one topic to sit down and write a coherent post.  So this morning’s post is just a compilation of a few of my thoughts while I try to talk my mind into settling down a bit.

Most Democrats running for election or re-election have one major problem:  they are too quiet.  Much as I hate the loud voices from the other side, the Democrats need to become more forceful in voicing and promoting their ideologies, in telling the voters how they plan to actually help them.  Republicans can’t do this, at least not honestly, because they have no intention of actually helping the average Joe, but Democrats DO.  They want to enact legislation that will ensure everyone has access to healthcare, that educational opportunities are equal and affordable, to ensure worker safety and a fair living wage to workers, that we are doing everything in our power to protect and repair our environment for future generations, and so much more.  THOSE are the things that the voting public should be hearing, but instead the Democratic candidates are nearly silent.

Judd Legum over at Popular Information recently published an article about the campaign contributions being received by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is running against President Biden in the primaries on the Democratic ticket.  Turns out, that to date, fully 38.5% of Kennedy’s campaign donations have come from Republicans!  Only 19.8% have come from Democrats, and 31.3% from persons with no partisan history at all.

Interesting … are the Republicans, then, counting on the Kennedy name to further divide the Democratic Party such that whoever wins the primary has the backing of only slightly more than half of the party, giving a boost to their own candidate?  In my view, Kennedy is not a viable candidate with his conspiracy theories and bigoted views, but then the likely lead contender on the Republican side is also not a viable candidate, quite probably having been convicted of numerous felony offenses against the U.S. government, against We the People, by the time November 2024 rolls around.

I find it amazing that a nation of people who have themselves faced discrimination and persecution for centuries, are refusing to stand with the LGBTQ community against discrimination by the likes of Hungary’s Viktor Orbán.  The U.S. and more than 30 other countries including France, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and Ukraine issued a joint statement last week expressing concern over the targeting of the LGBTQ community by the Hungarian government, but Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu refused to sign on to the letter.  What hypocrisy.  The Jewish people have been shunned and persecuted throughout history in nearly every nation on the globe, including Hungary.  In the mid-20th century, Adolf Hitler and his crew attempted to exterminate the entire Jewish population.  Anti-semitism is still rampant in many countries today, but now the state of Israel is refusing to stand against the bigotry that is threatening the LGBTQ community?  There’s something very wrong with this picture and it’s name is Benjamin Netanyahu.

I’ve mentioned Vivek Ramaswamy in passing a few times … he’s one of the many running for the Republican nomination for the presidency.  Until yesterday, my biggest complaint against Ramaswamy was that he plans, if elected, to raise the legal voting age to 25, largely because young people are more likely to vote for a Democrat than a Republican.  But yesterday, he matched that with his ‘promise’ to put the ignoble Senator Ted Cruz from Texas (you remember, Cancún Cruz?) on the Supreme Court!!!  🤬

Okay, I guess that’s enough of my ramblings from the bouncy mind for one morning.  One last mini-rant … I notice that WordPress failed to include my afternoon post on the Reader yesterday, so I lost probably 20-40 views.  And our friend Pete tells me that he’s still having trouble accessing my posts.  What the heck have I ever done to WordPress to deserve this punishment?  I actually pay them around $300 per year for my account … you’d think they could at least put my posts on Reader where people would see them!!!  And on that note, I bid you a good day!

  1. Jill, given the focus by the GOP on issues that run counter to history, Dems should hammer them home again and again:

we no longer have time for the Republican nonsense on dealing with climate change
we no longer have time for Republican assaults on the rights of non-whites, LGBTQ+ and women
we no longer have time for a party that would rather have a possible traitor in the White House than a Democrat

Dems should say we are not perfect, but at least we have done things about climate change, infrastructure and health care.

As a former Republican, I have never seen a party just destroy itself like the GOP has done. Lying is valued and truth telling vilified. If you run for president as a Republican, one must pledge loyalty to a divisive person and likely traitor.

    • Exactly!!! That’s just it … Democrats have done so much more for the average Joe than the Republicans have over the past two decades … it’s time they toot their horn just a bit and call the Republicans out on their nonsense, their b.s. Like you, I am amazed at the destruction of the GOP from within. I don’t see how they can remain a viable party with no platform, no agenda other than to investigate and attempt to destroy government agencies and those who manage them. And yet … they seem to have a sizable loyal following. As the old Pogo used to say, “We have met the enemy, and he is us.”

    • Thanks, Pete! I suspect WP is in the middle of some upgrades/housecleaning and all this will smooth out in a week or so. Meanwhile, it is taking my dashboard stats forever to refresh/load, some of my posts are not on reader, then they are, then they aren’t again, and so on. Interesting that the two blogs you are having trouble with are both in the U.S.

  2. We should not be so quick and harsh on timid people. I would point out that the major survivability skills are camouflage and hiding. Even the massive well armed polar bear walks invisible in the snow. It is often the case that the most aggressive animals are suffering from immense pain. It is not an excuse but it is clear that the ex-pres and the current FL gov are suffering from severe physiological injury. Putting down a sick animal is a sign of compassion but if it doesn’t hurt maybe you should check your own health.

    • You make a good point, but still … there comes a time when it’s better to speak up, to stand firm, than to hide. Especially when people’s lives are at stake. Physiological injury? Hmmm … and here I always thought they were a couple of megalomaniacs!

      • Like in the old westerns when the bad gang rides straight down Main Street and all the townsfolk gather in the street to confront them? That false stereotype? Brave people are not common but they are more numerous than believed. I had my second encounter with one today, she’s nine. When to stand up is more important than why.
I don’t believe in predestination. They were pure when they started and they didn’t damage themselves at the start. That doesn’t however mitigate responsibility for actions taken.

  3. If you have a technical problem with your blog, why don’t you contact the help desk? They are usually (my experience) quick and thorough to find the problem.
I had a grave one not long ago (I could suddenly not log in with the code sent to my phone from my usual browser anymore), and they solved it quickly and efficiently. My guess is that sometimes when they make updates, they don’t consider everything that might happen. I have experienced that with other websites too. We are only human.

    • Ah yes, the good ol’ “Happiness Engineers”! You’ve had better luck with them than I have in the past! I just have an occasional issue that usually resolves itself in a day or two, and the post that wasn’t on the Reader showed up this morning. Yes, we are only human … I don’t mind the occasional glitch after an update, but I always cringe when I know an update is in progress … sometimes I think they should call them downgrades!

  4. that’s similar to the situation where i’m living in too, the dictatorship of the political party, ruling over the people, with the party that should fight harder for control of the government, being, too, quiet in its means, of trying to win the next, election, and the next time we go to the polls, it’s still the “major competitions” of the lesser of two evils, just hope, that those who will vote are, intelligent enough, otherwise, we will be, living under the current political party’s, reign of terror even longer…but, “we the people” are, normally, too, dumb, so, i won’t be, holding my breath…

    • I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through similar trials and tribulations! I forget which country you’re in … I’m thinking Pakistan? Yes, the first big challenge is convincing everyone to VOTE, and the second is educating them, helping them understand what the candidates ACTUALLY stand for, exposing the lies they tell by the dozens. Best of luck, my friend.
