If I Were The Prez …

I was thinking last night … trying to put myself in President Biden’s shoes … and the thought came to me on wave after brainwave … if I were President Biden, I would contact Speaker McCarthy, and Senate Majority Leader Schumer and ask them to call a joint session of Congress on Friday afternoon, and to make sure that Chief Justice John Roberts and a full press was in attendance.

And here is what I would say in that joint session …

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed members of Congress … and Republicans, too … what I have come here today to tell you is not an easy thing.  The decision I am about to share with you is one I have spent many a sleepless hour mulling and pondering, but for the sake of my family, I feel it is the only decision I can make, the only one that makes sense.

I come here today to inform you that I am resigning as president of the United States, effective immediately.  Chief Justice Roberts is here to swear in my colleague and friend, now President Kamala Harris.  Thank you all, well some of you anyway, for your support or lack thereof these past two-and-a-half years.  We accomplished a lot, despite the opposition and the odds, and I’m proud of what we’ve done, but I’m tired of fighting from the time I get out of bed in the mornings until I finally fall exhausted into bed sometime after midnight.  No more.  I have lost a wife and two children in my lifetime … I do not choose to lose any more.  Thank you all again, god bless, and good day.

And then I would walk out of the Capitol, never once looking back, and into the arms of my ever-patient, loving wife.

Meanwhile, inside the Capitol all hell would be breaking loose, cameras flashing, at least one cell phone held to every ear, and a roar of voices!  Kamala Harris has stepped up to the podium vacated only seconds before by President Biden, patiently awaiting the Chief Justice to make his way there.  Margie Greene is shaking her fist, screeching something about impeachment, about criminal charges, while others sit in stunned silence.  And then a shout …

“Somebody call an ambulance … Leader McConnell has fallen and is unconscious!!!”

Speaker Kevin McCarthy is one of the ones sitting in stunned silence, though he has a sly grin on his face.  He is now just one step from becoming the president … just one small step … one small woman stands between him and his ultimate dream.  Little does he know …

(to be continued … maybe … someday)

    • I’m glad you enjoyed the story, but as re the next part, just don’t hold your breath, okay? These things come to me every so often, but I cannot force them, so it could be a while, or maybe even never. I’ll try, though! ❤

    • I think it’s a combination of things, Vinny. His age is the most common complaint you hear from his own party, and sure, it’s a consideration, but frankly the Democratic Party has no other viable option at this point, so they should be backing him, singing his praises daily! Another thing, I think, is that he goes quietly about his business, doing the job he is hired to do, and doesn’t grandstand in front of the cameras every day like his predecessor did. And unfortunately, while he has accomplished a heck of a lot in 2.5 years, despite the opposition and hurdles in his way, his accomplishments aren’t widely reported on, are rather ignored by the media and by his own Party. The press is a big part of the problem, too … they cover Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis 24/7 … hardly a word passes from those two mouths that isn’t reported over and over, but Biden is ‘below-the-fold’ news. Personally, I have tremendous respect for him and for all that he has achieved since taking his oath of office. Now how to convince others is the question.

      • What I’ve seen and read about him he seems a very decent man. Especially now when decency in politics is rare. Trump is always on the news here. It’s crazy people still want him as president after all the crap he’s done.

  1. This has the beginnings iof an interesting political drama. 🙂
I don’t know that much about Harris, but I am sure of one thing. If Biden did stand down in her favour, she is highly unlikely to win the election in 2024.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • I’ll be reblogging Annie’s post that has some in-depth background on Kamala Harris tomorrow … I think you’ll like what you read about her! No, I don’t think she could win in 2024 … this nation, even many women, will not tolerate a woman in the Oval Office … we’re still very backward and misogynistic. That was the main reason Hillary Clinton lost (although she actually won the most votes by nearly 3 million!) Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

  2. I love the story. I take it as a story, and am eagerly anticipating the next installment of the serial!
I do not want any of it to actually happen. But it is a great story!

    • Yes, it was a story, nothing more. I see and hear what President Biden has to put up with and I was thinking that I couldn’t do it … I’d be singing that Johnny Paycheck song, “Take This Job and Shove It”! But fortunately, President Biden has thicker skin than I do! Thanks, Ali … I’m glad you enjoyed the story! I cannot write fiction as a rule … it falls flat. But every now and then some inspiration like this hits, and I can do a short one!

  3. At least we would know the date and time the country and democracy died. If your not familiar with Dr Allan Lichtman I highly recommend his analysis. He has correctly predicted the winner of the presidency in every election since 1984. He bases his model on 13 conditions existing in the electorate. He has recently called the election for Joe Biden if he runs as incumbent and there is little opposition inside the party. Throw that away and the traitor will be in charge. If he is smart and he is he will hand the reins to Kamala early February 2026 and watch a super capable woman soar. https://youtu.be/OzyFC01Obnk

    • I am not familiar with Dr. Lichtman, but have made a note to look into his work tomorrow! I’m sure he’s right about 2024, for there is no viable alternative within the Democratic Party. Marianne Williamson is a joke, and RFK is a closet Republican. I like what I see of Lichtman in this video clip … looking forward to learning more tomorrow. AND … he’s exactly right about polls … they are mostly useless at any point, as we saw in 2016 and again in 2022 when a ‘red wave’ was predicted, but they are less then useless this far out from the election. I don’t know why they even bother!

  4. I see no way out of this conundrum. I like and respect Biden immensely, but we need younger sharper and not Harris.( just my opinion). But who?
And he is not about to resign. Perhaps a choice of a different veep? I don’t have the answer. All I feel is that it will be trump.
Two old men in a Congress full of other old men and some women. But then I look at Nancy Pelosi and she was awesome. It’s worrisome, for sure.

    • Well, there is nobody on the horizon for 2024, but the Dems better be finding someone and raising them in the public eye before 2028! President Biden is the only choice for 2024 and his age is irrelevant. Question for you, though, Mary … why don’t you like Kamala Harris? I’m sure it’s not because she’s a woman nor because she’s of mixed race, so … I’m curious.

      • Just seems like you never hear anything about her or what she is doing or she never speaks except for lately in Florida. But then veeps usually don’t get much press and the media only really focuses on trump and less so on Biden. Perhaps I’m wrong. And also while, of course being a woman and mixed, means absolutely nothing, to others it does.

      • It’s up now, Jill. I’m eager for your reactions.

I was glad to read your comment that you didn’t mean you wanted Biden to resign because I thought that was the point, and it saddened me. Biden is in many ways at the top of his game—saving democracy and the soul of our nation. He’s where he’s long wanted to be; he’s making history—and he and Kamala are clearly working closely together now.

        • Just read it and commented there … excellent post!

Oh no no no, Annie! I would never wish for President Biden to resign!!! For one, because he is doing a remarkable job, especially given the hurdles he has to jump over. And second, because it would throw this country into a chaos, the likes of which we’ve never seen before, and in all likelihood we would end up with a President McCarthy one way or another … PERISH the thought!!! Not to mention violence in the cities and streets! No, my point was that I have thinner skin than the president, that I couldn’t deal with all he has had to deal with, and for that I respect him more than ever!

          • I understand now; that was what I’d thought, but I was confused. I totally agree, but one worry I think we can dispense with is that he wants out! His skin is tougher than yours or mine. I think all politicians need that—especially these days!

            • No, I don’t think he wants out, though I would bet there are some days when he would rather be almost anywhere else! But yes, his skin is tougher than mine, which is probably why it’s a good thing I never had a desire to run for public office!

              • He WAS out, he came back because he regarded the traitor as an existential threat and there was no one after Hillary imploded. There are no perfect men but there are some very good salesmen.

                • Had it not been for the death of his son, Beau, he would have run in 2016 and I firmly believe would have won then and would now be serving his 2nd term. But, life has a way of interfering with the best laid plans of mice and men, y’know!

  5. I’m not usually into Horror Stories or Murder Miseries but this one has the hallmarks of something that could changer my mind. I’m sure the Secret Service would guard Kamala Harris from Mcarthy(ism) and associated plots and she’s unlikely to spend any time alone with Margie so she should be OK.????

  6. Interesting idea.  But Harris is nowhere to be seen as is the usual case. Some of my family and I discuss who is an alternative to Biden which is the biggest problem.  All people who become presidents wouldn’t think of stepping down, their ego wouldn’t permit it.  And the waters are being muddied daily.  Does anyone else think the Biden indictment travels like a bullet through courts while an actual treasonous expresident is still three years free? So frustrating 😵‍💫

    • For 2024, there is no viable alternative, so we really all need to get 100% behind Biden. And for 2028, the Democrats better be coming up with a highly qualified, personable candidate who can win over the public. Somebody along the lines of Beto O’Rourke who has the experience, the education, and the charisma. But for now, for the upcoming election, it will be Biden and we all need to stop worrying about his age. Despite his age, he has done some pretty impressive negotiating in these past two-and-a-half years and can not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk. No, I wasn’t at all suggesting that Biden should resign! I was simply saying that if I were in his shoes, I don’t think I could take any more of the b.s. that has been thrown at him, and I’d be telling the nation what they could do with the job! But the nation would devolve into mass chaos if Biden resigned! Democrats would lose face, Republicans would take advantage of it, and I suspect there would be violence throughout the nation! I don’t think there will be a ‘Biden indictment’, so that is the least of my worries. I also doubt there will be an impeachment, and if there is, we all know it’s a sham, nothing more than a retaliatory move for the two impeachments against Trump.

    • No, he won’t do it and in truth, I would not want him to. I just know that by now, I would have been singing that old Johnny Paycheck song, “Take This Job and Shove It”! Obviously, my skin is not thick enough to be a politician! 😉

    • I would not want President Biden to do this, but if I walked a mile in his shoes, I think I would say to heck with it … he puts up with so much, and seemingly doesn’t let it get to him. xx
