R.I.P. Sinead — Reblog

I cannot do a tribute to Sinead O’Connor, for I was not very familiar with her or her music, though I was certainly aware of who she was and that she was a big presence in the music world.  However, our friend Clive has done a lovely tribute to Ms. O’Connor and her music that I think is very much share-worthy, so I am doing just that for today’s music post!  Thank you, Clive, for this beautiful tribute to the artist with such a golden voice!

    • I agree. She did have a hard life, and I’m sure her son’s suicide was the hardest thing she ever went through. She left the world a legacy, though, and I suspect her name will long be remembered.

  1. Thank you for this Jill. I read Clive’s post fully on his blog and listened to the songs. Kris Kristofferson’s duet with her was awesome. I have distinctive memories of K.K’s music as it was the time I lived in Canada and I heard him often on the radio. My ex bought his LPs and brought them back to Switzerland. So many memories….

  2. Thanks for re-blogging this Jill. It finally got me to go visit Clive’s blog. But at first I did not leave a comment there because I felt it would be insppropriate. I have hearing as bad or worse than yours, especially in the higher ranges, and as I tried to listen to the songs he played all I felt was frustration because I could not understand the lyrics she was singing. A word here, a line there, but nothing that made a complete experience. It is just the way I have to live my life, as you do yours. So I came back here to leave this comment as an apology to Clive for not leaving a record of my visit. And as I read through the above comments I came to Roger’s comment, and the interview he passed on. During the interview Kris Kristofferson, whose music I love, said he and Sinead did a duet, so I had to hear it. And once I heard it, I knew what I could do to leave a record of my 1st visit to Clive’s blog, which I am finally following. I know I played this song there, but I will replay it here for anyone who doesn’t go there.
Kris Kristoffereson and Sinead O’Connor, together, as she completes her journey here on Earth this time around…

    • Well, I’m glad you visited Clive’s blog! Unlike you, I don’t need to understand the lyrics in order to appreciate the music, so I enjoyed it without the frustration you experienced. However, you could have looked up the lyrics on Google and then read them as you listened to the music. I really enjoyed this video you included of O’Connor and Kristofferson doing “Help Me Make It Through The Night” … THANKS!!!

  3. I loved her. I had several of her albums & I could identify with her problems. Also had her look more than once in my life. (When I get depressed, I don’t cut my skin but I cut off my hair. There’s something so therapeutic about scissors).

    • I probably would have loved her if I had listened to her more than occasionally, but she just never crossed my radar often. I’m not so sure I want to think about depression and scissors in the same sentence!

      • Jill, I know a lot of cutters, I’ve been told that it “releases stress” when they cut into their skin. I have never cut my skin (I am crazy nuts about my skin, I use no soap on my face & moisturize like it’s going out of style) BUT cutting my hair gives me the same kind of relief … I have been wanting to grow it out for several years now but it’s relentlessly short … it’s been really tough since COVID.

        • I’m glad it’s only your hair you need to cut in order to feel better! I have known one person whose arms were a mess because she frequently sliced them with a knife, and I always felt she needed help, but I didn’t know how to convince her of it. You’re better off with short hair anyway … it’s MUCH easier to take care of!

          • I loved my long hair but I was always pulling it back into a pony tail or a braid to keep it out of my way so it makes sense for me to have short hair. My problem is that it grows so fast that I’m having to trim it every other week.

            • I used to love my long hair, or I thought I did. Until I spent 11 days in the hospital and ended up cutting most of it off after coming home, for I couldn’t get the tangles out, and then it wouldn’t grow back, so now I’m used to shorter hair and it’s liberating in a way. Easier to wash, easier to brush, and I’ve even considered shaving it! It still doesn’t grow much, but what little growth it has done is erratic and so thin that it breaks off and it looks like I’m shedding!

  4. Clive’s tribute is worthy of a very special artist.
    Well done to reblog Jill.
I didn’t want to trouble Clive’s post with this, but you and me being political.
Do you recall the time she tore up a picture of the Pope?
And the reaction in that great Catholic Country the USA?
Shortly afterwards there was a disgusting display by fans of all people Bob Dylan….. From this you, a warning of things to come…no surprise Trump got elected.
I’ll let Kris Kristofferson (In my estimation a true MAN) tell the rest of the story from an interview 12 years back

    • Thanks, Roger! I knew I couldn’t do her justice, for I wasn’t familiar with her music and didn’t know much about her, so I thought Clive’s really covered all bases and in such a beautiful way. I didn’t know about the time she tore up the Pope’s picture on Saturday Night Live until after her death, and it was in just about every news story I read about her. I love this clip you sent with Kris Kristofferson and what he did for her that night she was boo-ed! Thanks for sending me that!
