I don’t know about you guys, but there is just SO MUCH happening right now that I feel overwhelmed. It’s like my brain is bouncing so fast that I cannot even catch it, like a 33 LP being played at 45 RPMs! Trying to read the in-depth news about what’s happening in the Middle East, the new George Santos charges, Trump’s trials, the efforts of Congress to ensure a government shutdown next month, more schools banning still more books, the continuing efforts of Republicans to take away our voting rights, to take away women’s rights … the list is endless. And so, to give my brain a bit of a much-needed rest and recharge, I’m sharing my latest collection of political cartoons today that do, in some ways, help us to make sense of the insensible.

Hey Jill,
Great toons to display GOP pathos at its craziest. Love the other vacant chair (reality).
We’re amazed in my house about the books which are banned. The banning bastards are going after any book they find the slightest offensive to their delicate sensibilities, terrified that the thin veneer of their alternate reality might be penetrated by something contrary to their morals, ethics, or religion. Horrible way to live, by insulating yourself against challenging yourself to learn and think more.
BTW, what’s an ‘LP’? I don’t understand what that means, ‘like a 33 LP being played at 45 RPMs’. Hah! Just kidding.
Hugs ‘n cheers

Thanks, Michael! I’m always in awe of how the cartoonists can capture the entire situation with few or no words, just art.
Oh yes, my jaw has dropped over some of the books that are banned! Good grief! If the radicals who want all books banned had their way, there would only be one book ever allowed, and that would be their religious tome. That’s not a world I could live in!
Ha ha, Michael! You’re younger than me, but not THAT much younger!!!
Hugs ‘n cheers, dear friend

The last one represents my feelings exactly. The rest are mostly kind of cute.

I fully agree about that last one … it says it all.

That’s ’cause they can’t breathe, thereby restricting the blood flow to their hearts and making them colder.

I am keeping off the touchy subject of the situation in Israel/Palestine. But the cartoons were spot on.
Best wishes, Pete.

So am I, Pete. There are enough others offering their opinions and pointing fingers of blame … I see only tragedy and heartbreak, so I keep my opinions to myself … for now, anyway.

Sometimes you need to take it all with a big portion of sarcasm and humor to restore your nerves to keep dealing with it.

Thanks, my friend! You’re right, but some days that’s easier said than done, y’know?

The GOP toons are hilarious, the Israel/Palestine ones very poignant.

Thanks, Larry! It’s getting harder and harder to find humour these days, isn’t it?

Yeah, but we gotta keep looking, for the sake of our sanity.

Hoorah for the cartoons on the current outbreak of violence between Palestine and Israel.
The war a thousand years old in the making, with myriad forebearers, most of whom’s children claim there is no collective blood on their hands; all they need to do is choose sides. One side ALL GOOD. One side ALL BAD.

Yeah … if only it were that simple, eh? But alas, there is plenty of blame to go around, plenty of blood on the hands of many. And still it goes on. Why? Because we humans are an arrogant lot. Because we fail to learn the lessons of history, of the past, of our ancestors.

You’ve got it spot on there Jill!

Jill, the one of the mother and child fleeing ties into a portion of my post from last night. The civilians die when leaders don’t resolve differences. Keith

Yes, and as our friend Roger would say, “Thus it has always been.” Sigh. 😥

All of them are terrifically realistic, and you collected a great deal of the best.

Thanks, Kiki! I hope that someday soon they will be more … lighthearted? But, I’m not holding my breath on that.

As far as the Middle East is concerned, one cannot just choose some land for a certain population, chase the indigenous people out and expect everything being peachy after that. (The same happened to the Native Americans.) Both sides have behaved despicably, but … the Palestinians are trapped. The civilians are not allowed to flee from the conflict, they are trapped with Hamas. The Countries that have caused this conflict should play a bigger (diplomatic) role in this.

I fully agree, Stella. I have long had a dislike of Netanyahu and I feel that he is at least partly to blame for today’s situation. But that said, human lives are being lost every hour and neither side has the right to attack civilians, kill children. Two wrongs NEVER make up a right. I fear it will get much worse before it gets better. And the blame game, the finger-pointing, will go on indefinitely. Sigh. 😥

I never said that it was o.k. for anybody to kill children or other civilians. Hamas is a terror organization, but the Israelis are definitely not without guilt in this conflict. And the countries that helped create Israel. Let us be honest here, all the European countries were happy to have their Jews move to Israel, nobody wanted them. And none of them cared about the people they had to dislocate to make it happen. They didn’t care then and they don’t care now. They could try to get the civilians that wish so out of Palestina, but then, we don’t want any more refugees, do we? We are already shooting at the boats and fine fishermen who help refugees to land. The situation in the Middle East was messed up from the start because of Western European countries, who don’t take responsibility for their actions.

No, I know you didn’t say that … but some, such as the decision makers for both Hamas and Israel, seem to think that civilians, including children, are just pawns for them to use as they please. I agree fully that the situation in the Middle East has long been a mess, and was made worse by the Arab Spring movement that created what many refer to as the “refugee crisis”. Sigh. If only all humans would stop looking down on others because they aren’t exactly like them in all ways, we might actually manage world peace for a year or two.

The Middle East is a money machine for weapon dealers, talk about greed and no conscience.

So true. But the true cost of war isn’t measured in dollars or yen or pounds or euro or krones … it is measured in human lives and that seems to be the thing the military leaders and politicians who call the shots all forget.

Satirical, but, too, realistic, all of these cartoons, are, unfortunately…

Yeah, there isn’t much to laugh about these days either here in the U.S. or in your country, either. Or anywhere, for that matter. Sigh.
