I’ve been strangely unmotivated when it comes to writing here on Filosofa’s Word for the past few days. In large part it is probably because the main topic of the day is the proverbial “elephant in the room”. No, I don’t mean the Republicans, though they run a close second, but I mean the Israeli-Hamas war that is just too sensitive for me to opine on just yet. Too much death, too much heartbreak, too much potential for even worse, and too many people already pointing fingers of blame and offering their opinions, some intelligent but most not. I’m not offering mine, but nonetheless the situation weighs heavily on my mind and heart.
And then there’s the absolute lunacy taking place in the House of Representatives that … has no potential good outcome. So anyway, since I am so uncharacteristically unmotivated, I decided just to let my mind run free and opine on a few tidbits, or snarky snippets if you will …
Never have I heard so much utter stupidity in such a short time frame as I’ve heard recently, say in the last 24 hours. Let’s start with this …
Nancy Mace, Republican representative from South Carolina, speaking during an interview with Jake Tapper about Representative Jim Jordan’s odds of becoming the next Speaker of the House, says …
“I’ve actually talked with Democrats who trust him at his word, and I don’t think that’s out of the realm of possibility.”
WRONG! Surely there isn’t a single Democrat with a single brain cell that would trust Gym Jordan any further than they could throw a feather! The only people less trustworthy in the House are Margie Greene, Laurie Boebert and Matt Gaetz! And when Tapper, as incredulous as I am, asked Ms. Mace to name just one Democrat who had said they would support Jordan, she declined (in other words, she didn’t want to get caught out in a provable lie).
And speaking of the chaos that is the Republican side of the House of Representatives … even Fox ‘News’ persona, Neil Cavuto, sees the lunacy! In an interview with Republican Representative Bob Good, Neil said …
“Are you worried, though? No offense to you, congressman, but you guys are looking kind of like Keystone Cops here. You can’t get this done and it doesn’t bode well for Americans, in their opinion, of you running the House because you can’t seem to run it.”
Every now and then, those Fox folks let their guard down and a glimmer of a brain peeks through!
I generally try to ignore far right-wing commentators like Alex Jones, Charlie Kirk, and more, for I really do have better things to do with my time than listen to their conspiracy theories and snake oil ads. But the unfortunate reality is that a lot of people hang on their every word, and sometimes even take action based on what these assholes say. Yesterday Charlie Kirk crossed my radar with this …
“There’s not much you can do, folks. You have a government that hates you, you have a traitor as the president. Buy weapons, I keep on saying that. Buy weapons. Buy ammo. If you go into a public place, bring a gun with you and if you live in a state that doesn’t allow you to do it, I got nothing for you, man. Thank goodness in Arizona we can carry and we do carry. They put in the chat, they said, ‘we have more guns at the Turning Point HQ than you could imagine.’ Yeah, if anyone ever tries to come, that will not end well for you. You got enough firepower to protect the country there.” – Charlie Kirk
And this is where I think we need some limitations on that “right” to freedom of speech. Mr. Kirk is inciting violence, encouraging people to carry a gun wherever they go. Haven’t we had enough school shootings, grocery store shootings, mall shootings and street shootings in this country, Mr. Kirk? Did someone remove this man’s brain at birth and transplant it into his posterior? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …
Okay, I’m running out of steam now and it’s after 1:00 a.m. … time for me to proofread this post and get it on the schedule for its 3:00 a.m. debut! Hopefully I’ll get my mojo back sometime soon … it’s not like me to be so unmotivated! ‘Til next time …

I read John Pavlovitz, who sent we readers a message headed that it’s a tough time to be an empath. I think as people get older, they are both more empathetic and more empathic. So wars, mass shootings, and such affect us more. They’ve always bothered me, but things do seem almost overwhelming just now-it’s a lot. Take some time for you, OK? Cocoa is a good thing.

Although I am not a Christian, I also receive John’s emails! He is one of only two “men of the cloth” whose opinions I value and respect. I hadn’t read that one yet, but I will make it a point to read it tonight. And yes … cocoa is a good thing, as is wine! 🍷 Thanks again, Ali … you are a good friend!

Well, if it helps, there’s not much more to that email;a notice about an all-day online meeting. Not my thing, but the statement is good. It’s good to know we’re out there! Ialmost suggested cocoa with Irish cream, but wine works, too!

Oh … I remember now … as soon as I realized that’s what it was about, I deleted it, for I knew that wasn’t of interest. Cocoa with Irish Cream … now that’s one I haven’t tried, but I do love Bailey’s Irish Cream (just not the price!)

Jill, I did notice a trail off in your posting. I understand. As an independent and former Republican and Democrat, I agree with the assessment of the better conservative pundits like David Brooks and Michael Gerson that the Republican Party is adrift. As we have discussed, it is more cult-like following the Jim Jones-like former president down a dark path.
The Freedom Caucus represents the worst of the party that could get elected, just this side of the extremists like Jones, Kirk, etc. The caucus does not wish to govern, in my view, and just wants to get on the pseudo-news networks.
I would not use words like truthfulness, trustworthiness or collegiality to define Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, et al. Jordan would be an absolute horrible choice as Speaker, as the House would not govern, they would just bark at critics of Donald Trump and try to erase his alleged and actual crimes.

My Saturday a.m. post is along those same lines … a piece by conservative George Will who defines the decline of the Republican Party as well as any I’ve heard.
I agree about the Freedom Caucus … their goal has always been more about keeping their names & faces in the media than actually buckling down and doing their job — governing, making laws, etc. We see this so clearly, and yet these people keep getting re-elected over and over and over. WHY? Are we so poorly educating people now that they cannot see what’s right in front of their eyes?
Looks like Jordan is the nominee, but doesn’t have the votes to get the speakership, so now they’re considering temporarily expanding the role of the interim speaker, Patrick McHenry. In one sense, I think that would be a mistake, but in another, perhaps they could at least get the wheels turning a bit, for right now Congress is dead in the water. Sigh.

I have no words. I am weary, somewhat numb and sickened by it all…

I hear you and I fully understand, Mary. I am the same, yet I keep trying to find the words in hopes that maybe something I say will make sense to someone. Sigh.

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace,” Jimi Hendrix. That says it all! The love for power is still much too strong in people in essential positions.

You’re right … that says it all. I think that humans will never give up their love of power, so perhaps we are dooming ourselves.

In the end, this will be the only way to finally make everyone wake up … may we realize this before.

Thank you for sharing!!.. Unfortunately, when opposing ideologies choose the sword over the pen, conflict over peace (be it the Middle East, Europe, Ireland, Korea, South and North America and other places too numerous to mention) to settle issues, all that will be accomplished will be the sowing the seeds of hate, anger, etc., to one day in the future bloom again with more conflict and history repeating itself… 🙂
As for Mr. Kirk, no doubt his statement was made with arrogance and, with today’s technology, the universe will research and pass judgement by his statements and actions, avoid his environment and as a result, if his “gun” cannot heal his sick, educate his young, protect them from climate change, etc., unfortunately they will simply go the way of the dinosaur… 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful day every day and until we meet again..
May the sun shine all day long
Everything go right, nothing go wrong
May those you love bring love back to you
And may all the wishes you wish come true
May your troubles be less
Your blessings be more
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door
(Irish Saying)

Thanks, Dutch! You are so right, but I just cannot understand what flaw it is in humans that we can never seem to learn from our history, from our past mistakes. We can never seem to stop caring about whether another person is just like us in such things as skin colour, gender, religion, etc. Why does any of that even matter? People are people … we all have the same needs and desires. Sigh. I give up … seems we’ll just keep on hating until finally one day we destroy the entire species.
Yes, Charlie Kirk should by all rights be a nobody, but there seem to be a lot of people who like his rhetoric and hang on his every word, same as with Alex Jones. Could be our education system is failing miserably!
Thank you … I hope your days are wonderful as well, and the Irish Saying was just what I needed tonight!

Won’t bother me a bit if you don’t ever address the Hamas/Israeli issue.

Sooner or later, I will probably have to, but I hope not to do so until I actually have some insight or views of value.

Yeah, it’s becoming overwhelming, isn’t it. I will find hope if Australia votes “YES” today.

Knowing the history of our nearest neighbour when it comes to matters related to its indigenous population, and the difficulty to pass a referendum (majority of the population nation wide and a majority of the population in 4 of the 6 states), the odds are against change. But I’d be most delighted to be proved wrong.

That will certainly be one step in the right direction. Andrea doesn’t sound too confident, but … fingers crossed!
