It’s almost too much to process:
- Over 500 killed when a hospital was bombed in Gaza yesterday … a hospital, for Pete’s sake!
- Our president is in Israel, risking his life in a show of support, concern, and diplomacy
- Another vote in the House for the Speaker’s position — it can only come to naught as yesterday’s did; meanwhile a government shutdown looms in just 30 days
- Donald Trump published New York Attorney General Letitia James’ home address on his social media
Where has the sanity gone??? I don’t know about you guys, but I’m exhausted, both mentally and physically. There hasn’t been a night in months now that my sleep hasn’t been plagued with nightmares and weird dreams. Just last night I dreamed that Mike Pence was visiting us and every time he opened his mouth to say something, I sprayed him with the water bottle we occasionally use on our cats when they fight! Somebody stop this out of control carnival ride and let us catch our breath!
Since we cannot simply turn it off or tune it out, let’s have a few political cartoons to try to put it all in perspective …
That’s about half of my current stash … I’m saving the rest for tomorrow!

I realize that you’re stressed and sorry for that, but that Mike Pence dream was effing hilarious…gave me a chuckle.

it turns out the hospital deaths was a hoax, the bomb hit the parking lot and didn’t kill anyone in the structure so it might be a good idea to print a retraction of this lie that was likely obtained from the mainstream media. they’ve even said it was “contested” not exactly true since they were the ones who reported but you can’t expect much integrity from people who take the word of a terrorist group.

While it’s true that the media did jump the gun and make assumptions about blame, etc., the death toll still appears to be in the hundreds, though it has not yet been confirmed.

Trump of course is the problem along with his groveling gofers and fellow Republicans who need the vote of the cult.
But the real problem is the people. Ordinary citizens who must be more like him than we care to admit, or are so utterly brainwashed by Fox News and other right wing radio nuts, that they are in way too deep to ever recover. And again the apathetic non aware, non caring about the country and toss it off to “they are all the same” mantra. I feel we are the minority. It’s only going to get worse.
And that trump has a meaningless gag order that no judge will enforce and a cult, with some members in the military and police force, that loves chaos and violence, does not bode for any good future for us and the world at large. And what they hell are they afraid of? Why is he not in jail? We ALL would be. Makes the justice system look like a farce arranged for the rich and powerful to be exempt.
We are living in the end times and I don’t mean in a religious sense at all, but a human failure sense. I mean climate change..the greatest threat of all and we do nothing! Never have never will.
I’m old. I try to enjoy my home, my hobbies, my friends and nature and some good British TV and watch the world go mad, but from the sidelines. We all have to find some happiness in all this..don’t let it ruin your life. Ok rant over.

Trump is certainly a big part of our problem, but you’re right … the bigger problem is the people of this nation … the ones who can see only that which directly affects them today, the ones who prefer entertainment to serious governance, and the ones who are not intelligent or well-educated enough to understand the difference, to understand the consequences of their choices. I look for it to get worse and ultimately end in a catastrophe before it can even begin to get better. As I’ve heard you say before, I’m glad I’m old and won’t be here to see it all unfold. Sigh.

Indeed they are, my friend! Great to see you!!! And yes, Mike Pence gave me some laughs, that’s for sure! Why I dreamt of him, of all people, is beyond my comprehension! So … how are you doing? Everything okay?

I’m sure Freud would have something to say about your dream about Pence!
I’m doing well, just busier than usual at work. 😀
And how are you doing?

Probably so, but I’d be afraid to analyze it too deeply! 🤣
Glad to hear you’re doing well! Me? Hanging in is about the best I can offer. Still going through the heart issues that some days make it hard to even walk to the kitchen, but luckily I can sit and read the news and write blogs all day and into the next!

Glad to hear you are still reading and writing away.
I’m curious what your go-to news sources are…

Many, starting most days with the Guardian, New York Times and Washington Post, then moving onto Reuters, AP, PBS, The Hill, Politico, NPR, BBC, Wall Street Journal, Business Insider … and sometime Axios, The Atlantic, Reason, etc. I try to verify facts from those first three, whenever possible, but that’s getting harder these days, for with the exception of the Guardian, they are becoming more biased. Sigh.

wow! that is a lot of reading! Sounds like I will have to start reading the Guardian!

I find The Guardian to be about the best all-round source. And now you see why I sometimes (often) spend 12+ hours a day writing my blog posts! For some people, R&R stands for ‘rest & relaxation’, but for me it stand for ‘reading & research’. And before you ask … no, I have no life! 🤣

We are too “awake” to dream happily, I think. It is a sign of the times. (Maybe there’s a new song for you to play. Petula Clark. I can’t remember how it goes right now, )

You’re probably right. The only one of Pet Clark’s songs that comes to mind at the moment is “Downtown”, but I know she had others … I’ll look ’em up!

Jill, it is frightful to say this but over time, Donald Trump has demonstrated a beyond narcissistic tendency that is sociopathic in nature. He is concerned only with self-image and preservation.
Publishing the name of opposition with an implicit suggestion for his followers to cause harm is sociopathic. Releasing confidential documents has apparently caused two sources of information to disappear.
Admitting later to Bob Woodward in an interview that he knew of the dangers of COVID in early February, 2020, it did not stop him from inviting his most loyal followers to pep rallies later that month risking their health. In June, he had another pep rally where former president Herman Cain contacted COVID and later died. His chief of staff lamented aloud that “we killed Herman Cain.” Again that is sociopathic.
Donald Trump does many things that give me pause – he lies often, he bullies, he denigrates, he sexually assaults women (using his own words), he commits fraud (as proven in court and through his settlements of cases), and he has been legitimately accused of seditious actions and one more huge fraud case.
And, Jim Jordan wants all of that to be erased along with his own role in the insurrection. When Trump attorney and fixer Michael Cohen said under oath “Donald Trump is a racist, he is a con-artist and he is a cheat,” Jordan did not bat an eye and just went about berating Cohen to diminish his testimony.
Trump and Jordan. Two peas and a pod. Yet, what Jordan fails to realize, Trump will discard him when he no longer serves his needs. As another attorney, Thomas Wells, who worked for Trump noted “if you are on Trump’s good side, don’t get used to it as you won’t be there for long.”

PS – It will surprise me if there is a third vote for Speaker tomorrow as the “anybody but Jordan” votes are expected to grow. I know Republicans do not like former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, but she at least could count, rarely holding a vote that she did not know the outcome ahead of time. Keith

And yet, she got our business done. Funny that!
(I know people as liberal as I am may not have been peachy-pleased with every bit of her work, but that’s how it goes in a democracy.)

I respected and admired Pelosi … she made sure the business at hand got done, unlike today’s bunch of louts!

If they don’t end up throwing their full support behind Jordan, and if they don’t support expanding the duties of McHenry, and if they won’t consider any other candidate, such as even Hakeem Jeffries, who has far more votes than Jordan … then what??? What happens next? We cannot go for the next 12 months with a rudderless Congress? Sigh.

Yes, some time ago I ‘upgraded’ Trump from an egomaniac to a megalomaniac, for he defines the word. I am still at a loss as to how many people can set aside their consciences and support this sorry excuse for a human being. And yes, Jordan is following step for step in his footsteps … neither Trump nor Jordan are people I want leading our government or representing me, for the do NOT represent my values … not one bit. The question becomes, how do we show those die-hard Republicans that this is NOT the path to take, that this will NEVER end well?
