Sorry, folks … I’m currently struggling to gather my thoughts on a number of topics into a coherent form without much luck. Hopefully by tomorrow, but for today all I can offer up is the latest in my collection of political cartoons.

One comment on this that caught my eye…
And that’s the problem with Mike Johnson believing in this stuff. Evangelicals don’t support Israel because they’re big fans of the Jewish people or value democracy in the Middle East. They support Israel because Jews are essential characters in their End Times horror movie. And now one of them is Speaker of the House.

Thanks, Mary. I also subscribe to Greg Olear and had seen this in my inbox, but hadn’t read it until just now when you sent it. It is indeed concerning when a person who has the power that Johnson has may use his own religious beliefs to make laws and policies. It’s amazing to me how so many people can believe in all this crappola. I think that Johnson will have an uphill battle to try to hang onto the speakership … already some in his own party are condemning him for admitting that George Floyd was murdered, and already he’s being caught in some lies. And his financial disclosures, or lack thereof, are very suspicious. So, I don’t think he’s going to last too long, and think he’ll have enough opposition to keep him from succeeding in most of what he would like to do. At least, I hope so.

But George Floyd “was” murdered or do you mean the Republicans do t want to admit that truth?

Yes, George Floyd was murdered, and Derek Chauvin is in prison today for that crime. But certain elements in the Republican Party call Chauvin a ‘hero’ and say that he was only doing his duty, therefore Floyd wasn’t murdered. I even read where someone … I think it might have been Marge Greene, said that Chauvin is her hero and deserves a medal, not prison. Fools … they are fools.

They are much worse than fools. They are evil.

I feel deeply for the average intelligent American. It is all very well to have differing political and idealogical opinions, however if these opinions are geared to the detrimental health and lives of human beings it can be said the views are no longer differing but are anti-human, anti-life and anti-social tearing at the fabric and stitching that holds humanity and our democratic systems together.

Agreed. Opinions, if properly shared in civil discourse, can lead to progress and helpful change, but that’s not what we’re seeing here today. We are seeing the playground bullies attempting to silence the majority for their own purposes … purposes that have little to do with freedom or democracy.

The cartoons are all accurate, but I feel sad that someone had to draw them in the first place.
Best wishes, Pete.

Remember when you thought elected officials were as intelligent as yourself? Good times!

Ha ha ha … Oh yes, I DO remember!!! Actually, until recently I thought that, with some notable exceptions!

Jill, although the Mike Johnson ones are funny, they also are sad and scary that the GOP was so embarrassed by their own incompetence in failing to elect a speaker they ALL voted for this guy.
Yet, the last one on the real mental health crisis in America takes the prize as the best one, in my view. Keith

The more I learn about Mike Johnson, the more I see real problems down the road. I’ve even wondered if he was the chosen one from the beginning and Scalise/Jordan/Emmer were all red herrings. He is a frightening person with scary views, though he looks like the average ‘guy next door’, fresh and innocent. Yes, that last one was a good one for sure — Lukovich is spot on, sadly.

Something inside me snapped this week, Jill… I am no longer able to keep at arms length the realization that we’re in mortal combat for the heart and soul of America… and the whole world.

I am the same, Frank. It just got to be too much and something inside me snapped, too. I tried to step back from it all, but found that to be impossible. Hang in, my friend … we cannot give up the fight. Hugs
