Judge Howard Manning served faithfully and honourably for some 28 years on the North Carolina Superior Court until reaching the state’s mandatory retirement age in 2016. In his tenure on the bench, he has seen it all and is a good judge of human character. Yesterday, he wrote about the ‘character’ (or lack thereof) of one of the candidates for the presidency next year. Our friend Keith shared his words on his post, so some of you may have already seen this, but I thought it needed to be seen and digested by as many as possible, so I am sharing it with you today. If you haven’t already read it, please do take a few minutes to read and ponder what Judge Manning says about Donald Trump. And thank you, Keith, for bringing this to our attention.

Yes, he replied, but he was not convinced. He and I have ongoing conversations about politics. Luckily, we are able to do so with a lot of laughing even when I think he is totally wrong and vice-versa. We’re from the same town and our parents come from the same generation, which I guess gives our friendship a supportive foundation. Sometimes he has information that didn’t make the mainstream that is nonetheless true.

That is great! So many people are simply unable to discuss the political situation without anger, cursing, and threatening. You and he are obviously both mature adults who are willing to listen to each other rather than talk over one another as so many do. Keep the conversation with him going … who knows what may come of it!

Oh yes, we keep the conversation going. We might sometimes use a peppery vocabulary, but never at each other. It must be a kind of chemistry that keeps us talking in spite of rarely being able to convince one another. If I ever do score a victory (persuade him that Biden came by his money honestly, which he did as far as I can tell….) and he admits he was wrong, will let you know! : D
