Jolly First Monday In December

Good morning friends!  Is it cold where you are?  It’s cold here, but no snow yet this year.  Did you have a great weekend?  Mine?  Oh, well, the girls went out shopping on Saturday and I stayed home, fully intending to catch up on some house chores, but instead I picked up a book and that was the end of any housework getting done!  Ah well … there’s always tomorrow, right?  Two weeks ago when we went overboard with bacon, I promised our friend Erika a healthy meal the following week, but then I forgot last week.  So, this week’s fare is more on the healthy side, though there may be a little treat or two thrown in, too!  So, grab a plate and then let’s see if we can find some humour to get this week off on the right foot, ‘k?

Let’s start out with a few music puns …

Sometimes when you see a sign, you just have to scratch your head …

And now … BRING ON DA ‘TOONS …

And it just wouldn’t be Jolly Monday without a cute critter video, now would it?

Well, my friends, it’s that time … time to try to be productive, to face another week of challenges, but we hope you’re starting the week out with a smile on your face and in your heart!  Remember to share those smiles!  Keep safe and warm, and have a good week ahead!  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly ‘n Joyful!!!

      • Hi Jill. The Garfield / Odie one on hugs. One of my favorite things. And yes like Garfield if they’re done in earnest well-meaning I feel good also. I once was asked why I offer hugs to everyone, even people I argue with. I simply reply I never got hugged during childhood, and I value them now. I don’t know how many people need a hug and don’t have anyone to give them one. So I offer them virtually. If it is someone I know in person / the physical world, and know they also like hugs, I hug them also. I think how much better this world would be if we hugged each other more and hated / raised our hands to each other in anger less.

When I met Randy’s parents who were older in the early 80s, I did not know he had told them of this. His father who was a gruff older man instead of shaking my extended hand pulled me into a big hug. I thought that was grand! Randy told me he was surprised because his dad did not normally hug people.

I thought I was unusual in not being hugged or shown affection as a child, but I realized around the turn of the century it was far more common than I knew. I want to share affection for others, like in the cartoon as Odie did (only with permission), I want to let people know I care, I really care about them. And how better to show that than to drop my personal space shields and offer a hug should they wish one. Hugs. Scottie

        • Ahhhhh … I should’ve known!!! Yes, I loved that one, too! I love the story of the first time you met Randy’s dad!!! Some people just aren’t big on hugs, which is something I never did understand, for to me hugs are THE BEST! And so … let me offer you a BIG HUG!!!

  1. 😄😄’One lap = 1/3 mile, 3 laps = 1.2 miles.’ That’s like my favorite peppermint bark; 1 piece = 70 cal., 3 pieces = 200 cal. And people wonder why other people don’t like math…

And I did sing that, too. Thanks, Jill-another great one!!

    • 🤣🤣🤣 You’ve made me laugh!!! Yes, as an accountant by profession, that one cracked me up, as did the one with the 5% sale where prices were previously $11.99 and on sale only $12.00!!! I do like your math when it comes to peppermint bark (which I also LOVE), though! Glad you enjoyed Jolly Monday, and I hope you have a great week ahead, Ali!!!

      • I like that math, too, but I can’t take credit for it; it’s on the side of the package. I hope your week is good, too, Jill! 😄⭐

  2. Happy Jolly Monday, Jill. It’s cold here, and we’ve had some wet snow. Thankfully no big snowstorms… yet. 🙂

Enjoy your week ahead. Short school week for us! 🙌

  3. Boneless bananas, that’s a classic.
Cosmo the parrot has a good speaking range indeed. However, plucking feathers is a sign of distress, depression, or loneliness. (My uncle had an African Grey, and it self-plucked until it was almost featherless.)
    Best wishes, Pete.

    • I think the ‘boneless bananas’ was my very favourite … I actually laughed at that one! I didn’t realize that birds plucked their own feathers, but it sounds akin to some of the habits humans have when they are lonely or depressed, such as nail biting, hair twisting, etc. At least the parrot can’t go score some harmful drugs on the street corner, and he did seem pretty happy with his home and his humans …

  4. Haha!! Thank you so much for this special buffet, Jill. I love it!! But you know what? Since laughing is the best medicine (as we say), your Monday posts are always healthy, regardless of what you serve 😉

  5. Patti agree we must get that towel for our stove. Never explain a joke. They might not be laughing but they might want to understand the punchline.

  7. Jill, too funny. Commenting on just one, Elk City is safe for all birds but chickens. Those signs are perfectly aligned by the photographer. Keith

  8. ‘And here is the range’ 😄
‘What kind of meat is this?’😂
    ‘Of all the clowns…’🤣🤣🤣
No, please stop it…I’m trying to drink my one daily shot of coffee!

  9. There were so many good ones, Jill, so funny! I did like the Elk City one especially, a double joke with the KFC sign behind.
And the video with the parrot, so cute! The gray ones get very old and can survive many owners, unfortunately.
