Rudy, Rudy, Rudy — When Will You Learn???

Most people learn from their mistakes, especially if those mistakes carried a hefty price tag.  Some, however, seem to have brains that are locked into “stupid mode” and never, no matter how high the price, learn a lesson.  The most obvious example in our society today, of course, is Donald Trump who doesn’t know when or how to shut up, but there’s another who’s almost as bad.  If pains me to see a man who I once had tremendous respect for sink so low.

Rudy Giuliani was once revered by many across the nation for his response as New York City’s mayor to the tragedy of 9/11 … he helped bring not only New Yorkers, but the nation together, albeit only for a short time, helped us remember our humanity.  Oprah Winfrey dubbed him ‘America’s Mayor’ and he was Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” in 2001. But alas, either aliens replaced Rudy’s brain and heart with ice, or we misjudged him all along.

In the weeks after the 2020 election, Rudy was doing Trump’s bidding by attempting to ‘prove’ the Big Lie, that the election had actually been won by Trump and that votes had been either miscounted or tampered with.  As part of his “evidence”, he accused two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss of election tampering, of removing ballots from suitcases during the count in Georgia.  Rudy’s claim was quickly debunked, but nonetheless both women were subjected to harassment, death threats, and were for a long time afraid to even leave their homes.  I watched as both Ruby and Shaye testified under oath before the January 6th committee and my heart broke for them.

Fast forward to last June … both women were officially cleared of any wrongdoing by the Georgia state election board in a 10-page report that thoroughly debunked Giuliani’s claim.  In July, Judge Beryl A. Howell of the DC District Court ordered Giuliani to pay Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss some $90,000 to reimburse them for their legal fees, and at that time, Giuliani actually conceded that he made false and defamatory statements against the women, but he refused to concede that his statements had caused them harm, and he continued to claim that the claims he made were protected under his ‘right’ to free speech.

A lawsuit brought by Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss has already been ruled upon and Mr. Giuliani found guilty of defamation, however it will  be up to a jury to determine the amount Mr. Giuliani must pay to the women – an amount that could be as high as $47 million.  So, has Giuliani learned to keep his mouth shut?  Well, let’s take a look at what he had to say yesterday as he talked with reporters outside the federal courthouse …

“Everything I said about them is true. Of course I don’t regret it … I told the truth. They were engaged in changing votes.”

No, apparently despite all the hot water he’s in, not only in the case brought by Freeman & Moss, but in other lawsuits such as the ones brought by his attorneys and by his former accounting firm for non-payment, and of course there’s the one down in Georgia where he was indicted by District Attorney Fani Willis in the conspiracy case that also includes such notables as Donald Trump, John Eastman, Mark Meadows and many more.

Giuliani has had his license to practice law suspended in both New York and Washington, D.C., and Syracuse University is considering revoking his honorary degree.  Wouldn’t you think Giuliani would be smart enough to keep his big mouth closed?  Frankly, I hope the jury orders him to pay the entire $47 million to Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss!  And I’d like to see him convicted in Georgia and locked away for the rest of his time on earth, for he has proven he has no conscience and will never stop being a menace to society.

  6. Jill, he will likely be slapped with added defamation charges. Not unlike Donald Trump being hit with added defamation charges toward E. Jean Carroll when he could not shut up. Both people have a “foot in mouth” problem. Keith

  9. Since when is defamation free speech?????
    I am again and again astonished about the lynch justice. What about innocent until proven guilty? Where has that vanished to? There does not seem to exist much trust in the justice system. Or people just like to judge and condemn …

    • It’s truly jaw-dropping what some people try to incorporate into that “free speech” clause. Even the attack on the Capitol on January 6th 2021 … I’ve heard many try to claim that an insurrection is their right to freedom of speech. Rather like the way they have twisted the 2nd amendment to claim that the “right to bear arms” means they can own assault weapons, shoot children in schools, and we can do nothing about it, not even moderate gun laws! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

  10. Like Trump, Rudy has a giant case of foot-in-mouth disease. He cannot help himself. He needs to say what he “believes” is truth. He can’t switch to real truth, even if he knows it. I think he is officially inane!

  12. The whole crew deserve to be in prison, from 45 down. But too many of your countryfolk are too stupid to see that.

    Your title reminded me of the chorus of a song I like – Ruby, by the Kaiser Chiefs. It’s much better than the past two days’ tunes 🤣

    • I agree on all counts … they all deserve prison, some of them for life, and about 1/3 of the people in this country are too stupid to see it but instead are convinced by every conspiracy theory that comes along. There’s a reason the U.S. has the highest death rate in the world … they believed that Bill Gates would implant microchips into the vaccine, so they were too damn stupid to get it! Sigh. Beam me up, Scotty!

        The vaccine conspiracy theory played a part in the US’ Covid death rate, but I think guns might have something to do with the ongoing high rate – the only league table that you guys regularly lead.

        • I share your hope, Clive, but … sadly, I’m not counting on it, especially the head honcho who will likely never see the inside of a jail cell.

          Oh yes, we definitely lead the world in gun deaths, gun lunacy, but also in Covid deaths, because at least half this nation refuse to be vaccinated, putting themselves and their own families at risk. Even one who is running for president (Robert Kennedy, Jr.) claims vaccines are something evil, I forget just what his premise is. Sigh.
