Three Years …

Today marks three years since the horrible, violent attempt to overthrow a duly elected election.  So much I want to say, but … I’m finding the words just won’t come.  Perhaps that is because we are still facing the same threat we faced three years ago, perhaps it is because I am thoroughly disgusted by those, like Margie Greene, who would ‘celebrate’ this day.  At any rate, I came across a short, heartfelt video this morning by someone who was there, doing his job at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, someone who has paid a high price for his honesty about that day and for not following the party dictum to blindly support the instigator of the January 6th nightmare. So rather than try to find my own words, I would like to share with you the words of Adam Kinzinger as he recalls the events of the day and shares his thoughts with us.

Those who stormed the Capitol on that day, who caused murder and mayhem, have been called ‘patriots’ by some.  In my view, Adam Kinzinger and those like him are the true patriots.  Thank you, Mr. Kinzinger.

    • January 6th was indeed a terrifying day, and to hear people refer to it as “just another tourist day” enrages me! If Mike Pence had not had the courage to defy Trump and do the right thing, we might not even have the freedom to be writing these things today! It’s frightening, to say the least, and that is why Trump simply CANNOT be allowed to take office again, for the next time he will have learned from his prior mistakes and it will be a thousand times worse. For good to prevail, we must all do our part, whether that’s just talking to people, trying to help them understand, or for those who are able, going house to house, making phone calls, writing letters. Whatever it takes, Trump must be defeated either in the courts or at the ballot box!

    • Yes, I think it will go down in history much the same as 9/11/2021 or 12/07/1941. It IS going to be a bumpy road ahead and I wonder if I can hang on to any shred of my sanity this year! Sigh.

  2. There is a man who could lead a new GOP to a future of valid Political Policies with which to fight new elections to the betterment of the American People. Someone to champion ideals not of Hate and Prejudice but of inclusion . Mayhap the two Party System which is currently proving so destructive to America could be made to work as intended by your forebears, and survive. Maybe even with less Conservative ideas so that Welfare is no longer a dirty word and that the medical care of ALL Americans does not lie in the hands of the wealthy Insurance Companies which lack the heart necessary to provide proper care for those who lack money.
Maybe true balance can be achieved when the will is there to stop allowing Politicians to be bought and to bring real justice to the Supreme court. To allow the people not just to voice the need for reform on the Gun Culture but to bring such reform about.

Or just maybe it’s time for the American People to stop living up to the hype that they’ve been fed for so long about their country being the Best in the World, and to start deciding what they truly are and what they truly want. An America ruled by oligarchs where the obscenely wealthy will decide what they should have or a Country of equals where all pay their fair share according to their means, where they can lead others by example and not by bullying through sheer manpower, forcing others to change their ideals to ther American Way. 2024 may well be the year when all these decisions are made and like under the surgeons knife, I hope the operation will be a success. Cwtch.

    • He should absolutely be a big part of the rebuilding of the GOP if they ever wake up and realize they are self-destructing. Every time I hear him speak or read one of his posts I am more impressed. He has courage and conscience, to things that are lacking in 95% of today’s GOP.

No, the U.S. is not and never has been the “Best in the World” or that “shining light” that so many have believed us to be. We’re just a country run and populated by people, like any other. Today, we have truly lost our way … we are returning to fascism, returning to extreme racism, returning to a country that literally worships wealth, to the detriment of all others. The progress I thought we had made in the ’60s and beyond is being undone by those who somehow fear the loss of their majority, fear being overtaken by people with darker skin than theirs. And that is what so much of it boils down to … blatant racism. Like you, I hope the coming operation will be a success, but … I wish I felt more confident. Cwtch

      • One of us appears to be a very disagreeable person.😁The way is not lost! Nor is there a lack of leadership identifying the rocks hindering progress. There are a lot of free riders whining about all the work and the few low class criminals promising short-cuts that don’t exist. I don’t like it any more than you do that we we born into the 10% of humanity responsible for 80% of the work but I’ve been in hell and it is not full of bad people but of people who can’t do the work. I do not lead for the lazy, I lead because the lazy will leave the wounded behind. The BEST is all anyone can do, it will never be the best that can be done. Take a little happiness and feel a little pride that you have done something.👍Unless of course YOU are the one that’s supposed to fix everything?

  4. Wise words, from someone who knows what he is doing. Hopefully he, and those like him who have been ostracised, will be the future of the GOP, not the lunatic cult members it currently embraces.

    • Every time I read his posts or see him speak, my respect for him grows. He now has a Substack, in case you’re interested! To me, he is the personification of ‘courage’ … he and Liz Cheney both.
