From May 2 to September 27 last year, the Writers Guild of America —representing 11,500 screenwriters—went on strike over a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. I don’t watch television or go to movies, so I really might not have even noticed, except for one thing … the late night comedians! No Stephen Colbert or Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers or John Oliver! The world was just a little bit darker without them to show us the humour in the everyday chaos found in our newsfeed. But they’re back now, and in fine form. I came across this one of Jimmy Kimmel from a couple of days ago and found myself chuckling all the way through it, so rather than bore you with any my usual political commentary, I’m sharing Jimmy and the humour for which he is famous. I especially loved Jamie Raskin at the 7:00 mark … he has a way with words! And perhaps the best part is there is almost nothing about Tr@#p in the clip! I really hope you’ll take just a few minutes to watch it, for it is funny!!! I promise you’ll laugh!

I laughed at the snow in the first seconds of the clip!

I did too, even as I felt sorry for the old guy!

That’s what would happen to me if I shovelled snow.

Me too, only I’d probably be standing right under it!

I guess I was in the wrong mood. I didn’t laugh… Not even when I found out where Iowa is. I was 2 states away. But I was closer than most of the Americans they showed. I did chuckle at that.
Your present Congress is a joke, but that’s more worthy of tears than laughter. I feel sorry for all of you.

Yeah, I was surprised by how many thought Ohio was Iowa! I wouldn’t have gotten it right, either, but I would have been closer than most of them! Sorry you didn’t find the humour in it all …

It was humourous, just not laugh-out-loud humourous. Maybe because I am removed from the situation by virtue of being Canadian. The topic is not as in my face as it is in yours.

I was born in IL, raised in MO, and lived most of my life by now in KS. I know where Iowa is because when I was in 3d grade, a girl moved down from Des Moines, and we got a quick geography lesson as the teacher traced her moving trip to our city from hers. Her mom became our Girl Scout leader.
However, living in KS, Iowa would still have to be where Iowa is, because of all the jokes about how one or another state sucks, and the other state blows. Just interchange the Dakotas, NE, KS, OK, and especially TX and AR. It would be a dumb way to learn US geography, but it really sticks it in a person’s head. I do get some of the NE states mixed up, though.

And, yes, please laugh at any of that, too! I LOLd through the video. I’d seen the congressional clips last week, but the treatment here really lightened up my mood about them. Doesn’t make it any easier to pay them, though…

Agreed … they are a laughable bunch, but then you remember that we’re paying them the big bucks to be clowns … not only clowns, but clowns who are disrupting our very lives! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

I had to look it up, and found Iowa is just west of Illinois … I think I can remember that, but maybe not by next year! Like you, the New England states are hard as heck … except for Maine … I can find Maine on the map!
