Good Monday morning, dear friends! How was your weekend? I stayed indoors … too cold out there for this old body! Do you realize that the entire month of January is almost gone??? WHERE did it go??? We’re almost back around to Hallowe’en 🎃 … then Thanksgiving 🦃 … then CHRISTMAS 🎄 AGAIN!!! 😱 Somebody slow time down … PLEASE!!!
Anyway … we thought since it has been a while since we’ve had a pizza day, that’s what’s on the menu for today, so grab a bite and let’s try to find some humour to start this last week of January off on the right foot! 🦶
What say we start out with some music puns today?
And Jolly found us some strange and fun signs …
And on to everyone’s favourite part of Jolly Monday … da ‘toons!!!
And here are just a few fun and interesting facts we’ve collected …
And once again, if it’s Jolly Monday, there must be a funny animal video, right? Today’s comes courtesy of our friend Scottie over at Scottie’s Playtime … Scottie is a gem and often sends me snippets and videos he thinks I might enjoy or be able to use in my posts. Thank you, dear Scottie!
Well, dear friends, time to get busy I guess. We do hope those smiles we see will last you throughout the week, but if they start to fade, you can come back any time for a refresher smile … Jolly ‘n Joyful have a basketful of them!!! Keep safe and warm, and have a good week!!! Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly ‘n Joyful!!!

Thanks for the laughs Jill. There were two jokes that I didn’t understand, the one with Bob Marley, and the one with the Christmas carols, but there so many other good ones.

Let’s see if I can help. On the Bob Marley one … the line from the song is “I shot the sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy.” The pictures are of Johnny DEPP, an EWE, and Mr. T — Depp-ewe-tee. And the Christmas carols one … the song Joy to the World by Three Dog Night (I played it a bit ago https://jilldennison.com/2024/01/23/♫-joy-to-the-world-♫/) begins with the line, “Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog”. Hope that helps clarify! I’m so glad you enjoyed this week’s Jolly Monday and I hope you have a good week ahead, my friend!

Haha, I thought it be something like that, but I didn’t recognize Johnny Depp on the photo, and I don’t know Mr. T.
Yes, the second one was a real insider, I assumed that it would be. I dont listen to all the music that people post, it is getting too much, that is why I never show up on your song posts. Especially the last two days where filled with other things like hospital with my husband etc. I will write about it in my next “Headlines”.

I rather thought you probably didn’t know Mr. T … he only featured in one program that I am aware of and was something of a one-night wonder here. Oh! I’m so sorry to hear about your husband … I’ll be on the lookout for your next post. Hang in there, my friend. I hope he is better soon!

Hi. Jill thank you for finding a use for the videos I send your way. Some days all I want to do is watch funny animals for a while until the world makes sense again. I hope the videos I send you are a small help for you and your posting schedule. You do so much each day anything I can do to assist you is something I enjoy doing. Best wishes for all this week. Hugs. Scottie

Thank YOU, Scottie, for thinking of me and sending them! They are a big help for my Jolly Monday posts!!!
Trouble with watching funny animals while waiting for the world to make sense again is that … the world still won’t make sense even if you watched funny animals non-stop for a month!
I hope you have a calm and peaceful week this week, dear friend. Is Ron feeling better? Hugs

Hi Jill. That you get any joy / benefit from them is real joy to me.
Thank you for asking about Ron. Ron is feeling better. His torn knee / leg muscles are almost totally healed and the tooth infection antibiotics are finally helping. But the issue if he put off dealing with that damaged tooth for so long, it became infected, and that caused a trip to the ER. They gave him the medication to fix the infection, plus a couple pages of dental places that worked with or helped low income people.
Being Ron, he took the medication, the pain went away, and he put the papers away also. So It came back. He again went to a sort of ER called convenient care. So they again gave him medication and more of the same papers.
At first while he was in pain he looked into those papers, now that he is feeling better he is ignoring them. Here is the thing, I can gently push him, but if I push too hard he will shut down on it entirely.
Which is weird to me, because he micromanages my medical needs. He always has, he is like my personal doctor. He monitors my blood sugar, refuses to let me do anything that he thinks may hurt me physically, often asks me if I should lay down, and recently has been arguing with me over with I should do the dishes as he thinks it is hurting me.
I am so frustrated. I am not sure how to get him to go to one of those dentists / schools on the papers. I even tried the “If you find one you like, I could use them also”. But that did not work, he said he would get to it later.
So what do I do, if I push too hard, he will get angry and upset. If I don’t push him, he won’t do it. I am torn and unsure of what to do. Hugs. Scottie

Ron sounds just like me, Scottie!!! I am the same, and the more someone pushes, the more likely I am to ignore the situation. My daughter learned this long ago, and she might gently suggest something, but then she knows when to drop it. I think you’ll just have to give Ron the space to decide when to take the situation seriously … if the pain becomes too big of a burden, he’ll do what needs to be done. You guys are so awesome — caring so much about each other! Love ‘n hugs, dear Scottie!

Thank you, Jill, for another great collection! I love the idea of the 3-D crosswalk, and I bet that would actually work. At least, for a while, anyway. I love checking the website for hits, and the dog piloting the plane, getting the perfect spot!

Jolly Mondays might just be my favourite post of the week to do! Two or three hours spent gathering the best cartoons and other funny things, then sharing them with my friends, hoping to bring a smile or a chuckle. I’m so glad you enjoy them! Yeah, that crosswalk is some awesome artwork!!! Have a good week ahead, my friend!

You always outdo yourself with the comics. I pick a best one and then it keeps changing. LOL! And WOW Sampson is huge!
Who would ever think that one could be saved by fire ants!! Amazing! My son has sky dived twice now, as I have held my breath both times!! I have to show him this. Happy Monday, my friend! Hugs and Smiles.

Only the best for my friends!!! Yeah, I cannot imagine even getting onto Samson’s back, let alone ride him! I double-checked that fire ants story, and it is true! Amazing indeed. Oh my … I would die of stress if either of my kids tried sky diving! I can only imagine you holding your breath! Did he enjoy the experience, or was he scared sh*tless? Happy Monday and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Hugs, cheers, ‘n love!

I can’t get over the size of Samson unless the men were very short! Looks like he was well behaved as well and didn’t realise what chaos could be caused if he had a tantrum. Who says you need red meat to build muscle!

I took a hard look at it, and I think the men standing around Samson were all pretty normal sized! So yeah, a BIG horse! Exactly!

Yay, how can you not already smile when Spongebob welcomes you? The series started when we spent our year in the US. My son is only about 2 months older than the first episode… lol. It always reminds me of that time.
Oh, and I couldn’t agree more… crazy, how fast this month is already ending. Although, I don’t mind it. January is such a boring month… lol. Always glad when it’s over and when the year is in full swing!
Have a great week, dear Jill. Thanks for always making our Mondays so funny🤗

Ahhhh … I well remember watching Spongebob with granddaughter Natasha was back in the day, and I still find myself singing the theme song from time to time! ♫ Who lives in a pineapple under the sea … ♫ I suppose you’re right about January, but I just want time to slow down some … I feel like I’m racing to the finish line 😥 I’m glad you enjoyed Jolly Monday and hope you have a good week ahead, dear friend! 🤗

Jill, even good comic art cannot take the groan out of bad dad jokes. There are several chuckles, but my kids would leave the room if I said a few of these. Keith

Well, it WOULD be handy to have him for opening jars, but I’m not sure how well he would otherwise fit in! Imagine all 8 arms going at once … he could knock everything off the kitchen counter within 5 seconds!

This month indeed just flew right by, Jill. The past and coming week are unseasonably mild. I don’t mind but it’s also concerning. Lol. Hopefully Loretta the cussing bird is found soon. 😆

Yes, you’re right … it is concerning. I want Loretta to come live with me! She’d fit right in with our kitties … and with me! 🤣

You had me at ’16 tons!’ 😀… Love that song!
Earl and Opal in the supermarket – classic.
Once more…Thanks Jill

That was probably the first song I memorized all the way through, but I had a lot of the words wrong. 😂😂😂

Who doesn’t 😂
My oddest one was the Moody Blues’ Tuesday Afternoon’
My rickety cheap record player was insisting I was listening to the classic line:
‘Gentle swaying with the ferret and the dove’
Even at 16 I knew that didn’t scan but could not get the line out…Only with a better disc and play did I crack the line as ‘Gently swaying through the fairyland of love’
But back to 16 Tons. Damn but that was a good song, grim cynical and poetical observation on the miserable conditions of miners.

I rather like “with the ferret and the dove” better!

Considering that members of the band were starting to experiment with LSD at the time a casual listener could be forgiven for thinking those words were the actual lyrics.

True enough! And heck, it wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility that they sang it that way sometimes when they were flyin’ high!

That would not surprise me 😄.
Probably a lot of folk back in the 60s reckoned it was so anyway.
As if this one was about, just being happy 😏
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
I’m up to the eyes and I love everyone
Today, I could cry, I could reach for the sun
I’m walking on air and I’m here and I’m there
I travel the sky, but for what I don’t care
[Chorus]
Fly me straight and fly me high
Fly me straight and fly me high
[Verse 2]
I’m up and I’m down and I’m gone, I’m around
I’m driving along with no wheels on the ground
Hang on to me tight, ’cause it doesn’t last long
A few hours more and it’ll be gone
[Chorus]
Fly me straight and fly me high
Fly me straight and fly me high
[Verse 3]
I leave you behind on the streets in the gloom
I’m up here alone and there’s plenty of room
You won’t see me, I’ll see you, I’m too fast
Whoops, here I come, now I’m gone, now I’m past

Awesome!!! My late/former father-in-law had been a coal miner back in the 30s, 40s, and 50s and I, a city girl, was always fascinated by the stories he used to tell. He truly DID “owe his soul to the company store.” Glad you enjoyed Jolly Monday, dear Roger!

I can believe that. ’16 tons’ had a protest element to it, even if it was layered with other imagery.
Quite a history and still going:

A classic version:
Lyrics:
Some people say a man is made outta mud
A poor man’s made outta muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
A mind that’s a-weak and a back that’s strong
You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don’t you call me ’cause I can’t go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin’ when the sun didn’t shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded 16 tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said, “Well, a-bless my soul”
You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don’t you call me ’cause I can’t go
I owe my soul to the company store
I was born one mornin’, it was drizzlin’ rain
Fightin’ and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake by an ol’ mama lion
Can’t no high toned woman make me walk the line
You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don’t you call me ’cause I can’t go
I owe my soul to the company store
If you see me comin’, better step aside
A lotta men didn’t, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don’t get you
Then the left one will
You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don’t you call me ’cause I can’t go
I owe my soul to the company store
(That’s last rendering of the chorus gets me every time)
