I am growling tonight, and since growling is always more fun if others are growling along with you, I thought I’d give you a reason to growl, too!
The first growl-worthy news …
We the People are paying a lot … and I do mean a LOT … of money for people to represent us, and those people are NOT representing us. At all.
With only 14 days left until the next looming government shutdown on March 1st, the United States House of Representatives left town at 2:30 yesterday afternoon for a 13-day recess. They will return on February 28th, just two days before the government is set to partially shut down, and ten days before the rest of the federal government will shut down. Not one single appropriations bill to fund the government past March 1st has been passed, nor even discussed as far as I can tell.
Would somebody please tell me just what they need a recess from??? They haven’t done one damn bit of work since they returned from their Christmas break!!! Instead of working on legislation like the appropriations bills, as they are paid to do, they’ve been playing partisan games like sham impeachments and foolhardy ‘investigations’ into nothing! I say we expel every damn Republican from the House … send them all packing as we did George Santos … so long, farewell, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out! Good riddance to bad rubbish! If they had any bit of a conscience, they would resign and turn the reins over to someone who does want to do the best job for the people of this nation, for these oafs surely have no desire to do their job!
We effectively have no legislative branch of government today. The Senate burned the midnight oil to pass a bi-partisan bill on border security … the very issue the Republicans have been boo-hooing about forever now, and then the Republicans shot it down. They burned more midnight oil to pass an aid bill to provide aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, but House Speaker Mike Johnson won’t even bring it to the floor. Instead, they’re going home to play golf and whatever else it is they do in their spare time. It sure as hell isn’t reading or thinking!
Remember, my friends … every single member of the House of Representatives is up for re-election in November. VOTE THE LOT OF THE REPUBLICANS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!
And in other growl-worthy news …
I read last night in an article about the mass shooting in St. Louis, Missouri, on Wednesday. This is unrelated to that specific shooting but relevant to the state of Missouri. One year ago, Democrats in the Missouri legislature introduced a bill that would prohibit children from carrying weapons on public property without adult supervision. The bill was voted down by Republicans in the legislature. Democratic Representative Donna Baringer said police in her district had asked for the change in order to stop “14-year-olds walking down the middle of the street in the city of St. Louis carrying AR-15s.” The shame of this nation! Apparently the Republicans in the Missouri legislature have been bought and paid for by the gun industry, just like the ones in the U.S. Congress. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

WOW, Mary! What a powerful piece that was. I think we can all relate … my parents died long before Trump ever came on the scene, but I have lost many, many former friends due to their blind allegiance to Trump. I cannot even begin to imagine her pain in having her father turn into … what? A Trump supporter yes, but more. THANK YOU for sharing that with me. Oh, and Mary … my email is dennisonjill@aol.com if you ever want to contact me there. Just let me know here on WP the first time you do, in case it goes to spam, so I can rescue it and add you to my contacts list.

“Instead, they’re going home to play golf and whatever else it is they do in their spare time.”
Sometimes they may play golf. Mostly, they go out raising funds at the rubber chicken dinners. While some of those funds go into their own war chests, much of it goes to the National Committee. (The one tfg wants his campaign manager and DIL to run.) An actual Republican, JC Watts, spilled that tea when he was in the US House. He was kept especially busy raising funds as one of their black members. It ticked him off, as he wanted to do the things congresscritters used to do; eat the corndogs and visit with people about issues. Anyway, it’s a fact that most Republican US House members, except the very senior ones, and many of the younger Senators spend much of their recesses raising funds for the RNC.
Of course Dem officeholders have to raise funds, as well. But not to the levels Republicans require of their congresscritters.

You’re probably right, that they are out there robbing hard-working people of their hard-earned cash to fund a party that does not care one whit about those people. But, they find time to play, too … and most importantly, they are NOT doing the job they’re being paid to do! I would love for one of them to come knocking at my door asking for money … he would rue the day!!!

Absolutely. And, agreed I wasn’t clear about who they’re working for when they “work.” It ain’t us, as you say.

We are only important to them for about 10 minutes once every two years when we take the time to vote. Once the vote is cast, we go back to being just a nuisance to be placated.

Have I understood this correctly? Children are allowed to carry weapons? And I don’t even talk about it in public or not or with or without the supervision of an adult. What insanity is that? It is already a crime to let any adult by guns at the supermarket… but children?

Yes, you have understood it correctly. In some states here, children are allowed to carry guns. Not all states, not even most, I don’t think, but in some they are. It IS insanity, it is crazy! Welcome to the United States of Unlimited Lunacy!!!

I don’t know what to say … you cannot argue with persons who support this. This is beyond and reason. And those who would have the intelligence to end this, are too focuesd on money. It is shocking!!!

Human life means less and less with each passing year, my friend. We are but pawns to the wealthiest 1%. It’s up to us to change that, but … sadly, too many have been brainwashed and operate in a pool of ignorance.

Yes, I see that the same way. We need to be persistend when even it is like jumping against a wall. But one day, a brick will losen and then the wall is destined to crumble.

Jill, I feel you… bad! This is infuriating and makes me livid! 🤬
But we saw this coming, happening in 2010. Due to the SCOTUS Landmark Decision (and catalyst) with Citizens United vs FEC in January 2010, which blew-open the floodgates to millions & billions of dollars pouring into our state and federal government officials’ bank accounts as well as into the pockets of major Lobbyist groups backed by, funded by wealthy corporations and individuals: Dark Money, this was inevitable. It was a no-brainer then. Now look at us and Congress’ ineptness.
And here’s another peach-basket of facts to raise our blood-pressures higher…
The Wealthiest Republican House of Representatives today and their net worth’s in millions of dollars:
• Michael McCaul (R)-Texas House—$125.8M
• Vernon Buchanan (R)-Florida House—$113.3M
• Roger Williams (R)-Texas—$67.4M
• Rick Allen (R)-Georgia—$52.1M
• Buddy Carter (R)-Georgia—$32.0M
• Jay Obernolte (R)-California—$29.2M
• Kevin Hern (R)-Oklahoma—$26.7+M
• John Rose (R)-Tennessee—$23.3M
• Ralph Norman (R)-S. Carolina—$20.6M
• Dan Newhouse (R)-Washington—$13.8M
• Marjorie Taylor (R)-Georgia—$11.5M
And Speaker Mike Johnson, at the bidding of the Orange Orangutan, sent all of these under-worked and overpaid Reps home for ANOTHER effin vacation!!! 🤬
Why tha F*CK can’t they work from home like so many average Americans do working their asses off!?

Yes, I fully believe that the SCOTUS decision on Citizens United v FEC was one of the worst they have ever made and has set this nation on a course that won’t be reversed any time soon. Looking at the list of the wealthiest members in the House, none surprised me until I came to Margie Greene … she’s worth over $11 million???? And here I thought she was a 25-cent (two bit) you-know-what! We effectively have NO legislative branch today. The Senate is better, but they can do nothing without the cooperation of the House who refuse to even show up for work, let alone actually DO any work! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

This. Is. Not. New.
With these words by Ronald Reagan in 1986 . . .
I think you all know that I’ve always felt the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.”
. . . conservatives began a campaign of a mainly unspoken/dog whistle agenda and narrative to vilify the government of the country they profess their patriotism. They bow up and puff out their little bird chests displaying their flag pins and yellow ribbons, but their loyalty is only to a trickle-down economic policy that makes them even more wealthy.
They have low taxes.
They have deregulation.
They threw a bone (effectively getting abortion banned) to their evangelical extremists, but I think the movers and shakers really couldn’t care less about abortion.
They want a government that achieves nothing.
The only difference between now and the Reagan era — conservatives are not only saying the code worded quiet parts out loud — they are standing on a raised platform and shouting thru a megaphone.

Very astute observations, Kamchak … and I cannot argue with any of them, for you are spot-on. And why do We the People keep on voting for them??? That, to me, is the biggest mystery.

Jill, two growl worthy comments. This crisis action mode that Congress seems to routinely find itself in, most often with Republicans in charge due to warring factions therein, is not governance – it is “paint yourself in a corner” chaos. The Freedom Caucus appears to show little inclination to govern, moreso to blow things up, but they have been that way for a decade.
As for better gun governance, mostly Republicans but some Democrats are paid not to do anything. These well-funded politicians are in my thoughts and prayers that maybe they will act like adults and not investments.

The blame truly lies with We the People who keep re-electing these do-nothing candidates. I swear that the House has literally turned into a circus act, and still Republican voters will keep electing the same clowns over and over.
I don’t think all the “thoughts and prayers” in the world will cause them to start acting like conscientious adults, Keith. They are hypnotized/mesmerized by the promise of money … they have 💲 in their eyes 🤑. And so … we will keep losing precious children, husbands, fathers, mothers, etc., for we really don’t matter one whit to them.

Jill, the thoughts and prayers comment for victims is the most useless of platitudes. So, all I did was shift the useless platitude in the direction of the same useless speakers of such. Keith

Yeah, I got it. And you’re right … a bit of legislation would be far more valuable than all those wasted “thoughts and prayers”! But no … sigh … gotta keep raking in those NRA donations.

Please allow for exaggeration, I do not espouse murder, or any kind of violence (except in my thoughts and dreams).
(I am not one who believes thoughts are as culpable as actions. Just because I can think of giving Trump a very slow and painful death does not mean I would ever do it, even if I had the chance!)
