Respect For Women??? HAH!!!

Lately, women’s rights seem to have taken a few steps backward, starting with last year’s Supreme Court ruling in the Dobbs case that overturned Roe v Wade and set women’s rights back a half-century or more.  I don’t think the Court realized just how much that decision on their part would start a movement among women to fight for our rights.  It definitely had an effect on the 2022 mid-term elections, and from all indications will have a similar effect in the upcoming election.  But the abortion issue, while critically important, is only part of the way in which women are being pushed backward into the 19th century.  There seems to be a general sense of late that women just aren’t quite as … ‘worthy’ … as their male counterparts.  And there are people who genuinely seem to believe that women were put on this earth for two purposes:  to bear children, and to please men.  Reading yesterday that Harvey Weinstein’s rape conviction had been overturned infuriates me.  Just like Bill Cosby’s before him.  This is a mockery of justice!  It truly says that a man can use a woman in any way he sees fit, with or without her consent, and suffer no consequences.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

  1. Hi. Jill I will post a link to a reply I made to Ali on my blog. I won’t post it here because it could be triggering due to the subject. But I explained to Ali that the teen boys in the Seventh-day Adventist Church I attended in my senior year all read and worshiped the Gore Book series. If you google it you will see it is Sci-fi novels badly written for young boys about a world of male warriors who … I am sorry I have to write this … use women as sex slaves. All women in the books are abused and used, and the men are all superior masculine males who degrade the women in horrible ways. As I told Ali in my comment I refused to take part in that even after being begged by the one maybe gay boy in our group. I couldn’t tell him why I refused to read or be part of the book group sessions. I was treated as the women in those books. I did not like it happening to me and I damn well won’t be part of it happening to others.

Jill your post made me realize that the book series was not limited to just these church boys I was in school with, but seems to be the idea many religious boys grew up with. Now that I look back the school denied us kids dice, board games, any not approved outside the church books … which was seriously limited to basically the Ellen White series and a few others … yet despite all our room searches non-of these Gore series books were found and taken by staff. You know what, I think I may have been the one that was clueless. Clueless to the open training about women / females in the church. Now those boys and their kids are making the laws or fighting for them that women are simply what those books taught them. Hugs. Scottie

  2. Glad to learn that Weinstein has a separate conviction to serve. What frustrates me about Weinstein is the number of enablers and white washers he employed to hide his crimes. Ronan Farrow has an excellent four part documentary on this. A female reporter was asked by Weinstein at a party in the 1990s what she heard about him. She boldly said “I hear you rape women.” She got a call from his handlers.

As for Cosby, that just broke my heart. I used to listen to his albums when I was a kid and watched his most successful show as America’s favorite father.

    • Yes, at least he isn’t being let out of jail to go rape some other women! I wasn’t aware of the Ronan Farrow documentary, but will check it out. I just watched most of the video that Jerry linked to in his comment and that has left me growling.

Yes, Cosby broke my heart, too! I enjoyed his albums as a child, and loved his weekly television show. Such a disappointment to find out that his television persona is 180° from his real life one.

  3. It gets even worse, Jill. Watch this video of these two “leaders” among the Christian nationalist movement. They say most of our nation’s problems can be traced back to women’s suffrage and the women’s rights movement. We should, they say, return to the good old days when only land-holding, Christian, white men had the right to vote and to lead. And they represent millions of Americans.

As a no-longer-practicing-but-still-believing evangelical, I’m sickened by what has happened to the evangelical movement in this nation. Christian nationalism is the worst and most-frightening danger this nation has ever faced.

    • As a Christian, this truly sickens me. I have a friend who was being beaten by her husband and confided in her evangelical minister. He asked to see them both and told her in front of him if she was a better wife her husband would not beat her. She left her husband and that church. What that minister said was criminal. If she heeded that minister, she might have ended up dead.

    • Not evangelical, but my sister wss told the same by a minister of her church. She left that church, and somehow became a Mormon. The Mormons actually chose her 2nd husband, knowing the circumstances of hef 1st marriage. The 2nd husband did not physically abuse her, but he verbally and mentally abused her. The religion does not matter. Now she hates men.
On the ither hand, when Columbo and his ilk arrived in North Americans, indigenous people lived in a matriarchy — but white men refused to talk to the leaders. They encouraged the men to take the power from the women, which eventually happened. We still have female elders, but even still the white governments prefer to talk only to the men. This was a total disregard for the female species! I am a man, but I will willingly turn leadersjip back to our women. They were doing much better than the men are now!

    • Wow … what a pair of bigots in every imaginable way these two are! Thanks for sharing that … I wanted to curse at them the whole time, but especially around the mid-point when they began talking about how women are ruining everything with their ’empathy’. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ….

There is a man running for Governor of North Carolina, Mark Robinson, who thinks along those lines and says he doesn’t believe women should even have the right to vote!

I fully agree with you, Jerry, that Christian Nationalism is evil at the core, it would eliminate the rights of probably 75% of the population, given the chance. It is a movement that should be quashed!

      • Jill, a reporter friend told me that Mark Robinson has been back pedaling on that inane comment about women voting after appropriate push back. When candidates have to be reminded consistently about their bigotry and poor judgment that is not a sign of strength. Keith
