Another really short one this morning, but I just had to do a bit of ranting on this topic!
J.D. Vance and Donald Trump may think their little lie is funny in some way, but it is NOT. It is irresponsible, juvenile, dangerous, and is likely going to get someone killed before it’s over. ANYONE who thinks that a ‘man’ who makes up lies just to harm people ought to be president of a nation of some 330 million people, does not deserve to be called a human.
What am I talking about? The insidious lie started, as best I can figure, by J.D. Vance that Haitian refugees in Springfield, Ohio, are eating people’s pet cats, dogs, and ducks from a pond. Let me be very clear here: IT IS NOT TRUE. IT WAS NEVER TRUE. IT HAS BEEN DENIED AND DISPROVEN BY THE AUTHORITIES AND CITIZENS IN SPRINGFIELD, OHIO. However, as stupid shit is inclined to do, the lie has spread and has already posed a serious threat. This is a case of free speech run amok … a blatant abuse of the first amendment right to freedom of speech.
Over the past two days, bomb threats by lunatics on the Trump/Vance fringe have forced the evacuation of the city hall, government offices, and at least four schools in the city. It’s only a matter of time before some damn fool without the brains of a goose picks up his AR-15 and goes on a shooting spree, killing who-knows-how-many innocent people because he was so stupid as to believe this lie. And will Mr. Vance and Mr. Trump care? Hell no, they will insist that they were right all along until still more murder and mayhem take place.
If you or I told a lie that caused government offices and schools to be evacuated, we would be sitting in jail tonight. Why aren’t J.D. and Donnie??? They are no better than the rest of us, but they can get away with causing murder. BAH HUMBUG.

I agree with you that this is irresponsible but I have to strongly disagree with you that anyone who would vote for him is “less than human”. Those are reprehensible words and you’ve just demonized every single supporter of the former president by writing such a contemptable sentiment. You know, it is possible to be against trump but not his supporters, there is this thing called both things can be true and if you can’t or won’t see that reality, I feel sad for your lack of empathy towards your fellow human beings, especially the ones you do not ideaologically agree with.

This particular lie has been told about immigrant groups since the mid-1800s. As recently as 2018, I had people tell me not to eat at the China Star fast food restaurant in North Buffalo because they stole neighborhood pets & passed them off as chicken & pork. I still order from China Star ~ they have an awesome lunch special!
I have been hearing this crapola about various restaurants of various ethnicities since I was a teenager. Maybe longer than that. There was a lot of stuff about the Vietnamese eating cats & dogs during the Vietnam war but ya know ~ when your economy’s been wrecked by the Americans, I think you might eat whatever you have. But even if that’s not true, it’s the kind of lie that people believe because we ALL love our pets.
The hated group may change but the lies stay the same.

I recon we can add musk to the MAGA crowd now. He is calling our Prime Minister a fascist because we are wanting to ban young people from social media lies such as from X, plus he sent a weird or maybe it is a sick message to Taylor Swift because she endorsed Kamila.

This is awful, racism at it’s best. I do worry about the Haitian refugees and those of Haitian descent. Not only that, but I watched the video from the father of the boy killed in the bus accident asking them to stop using his son in their campaign. He was not murdered! What’s even worse is that even with irrefutable proof, people still believe his lies.

“What’s even worse is that even with irrefutable proof, people still believe his lies.” — This is the worst part of the entire campaign! For some, it doesn’t matter what comes out of Trump’s mouth, it’s TRUTH because, well, you know, Trump is next to God.😖

Trump and now, Vance, may claim all’s fair in love and war (or elections) but there are instances where free speech is not protected. Two of these instances Mr. Trump is well aware of: Defamation and Incitement. Considering what the citizens of Springfield, Ohio have been dealing with since these lies have been propagated by the Frmr Pres and his choosen VP, I’m wondering if there is a legal precident here. I hear about the “mass deportation” that is part of their campaign and even heard where Vance named Springfield as the start of the mass deportation.
The Dayton Daily News published an article on 9/12/24 about the Hatian population, which states that most of the 15K-20K Hatians are there leglly or have Temporary Protected status and they came to Springfield for job opportunities. This article stated that the claims about Hatians eating pets was untrue.
That said, the number of immigrants moving to Ohio for job opportunities and affordable housing have put a strain on the community which lead to the Republican Ohio AG, Dave Yost, requesting assistance from the Federal Government. According to a Springfield News-Sun on 9/9/24, Yost repeated social media claims about immigrants stealing livestock, squatting in homes, and killing wildlife for food.
Bottom line, yes, Springfield, Ohio does have a large immigrant population and it has caused a strain on the infrasructure. While Trump and Vance may think the solution to the strain is mass deportation, maybe the citizens of Springfield have a different solution in mind. However, spreading rumors and lies does not solve the actual problem, but does cause more problems. I expect better behavor from leaders. Trump and Vance (also Yost, but not someone I can vote for) do not fall in the category of responsible leaders in my opinion.

Bad as the false picture the world has been given by trump’s people JD is an Ohioan. Growing up in a similar dying town just an hour drive to the southwest. Over the last decade Springboro has lost 20000 to out emigration and 15000 in immigration the last three years. Straining services, oh please. Filling the empty schools? Filling the empty houses? Filling the jobs left empty for lack of bodies? Crocodile tears squeezing the rock. Poor Republicans don’t they know those federal dollars only lead to inflation?🤣🤣🤣This area is a bicyclist paradise. Just a 50 mile ride to Mikey’s Pizza and back.👍If you like Ohio pizza.😉😂 This story reveals JD’s true nature.

An interesting thought @ if there are legal implications are involved here. If so, would these two be held accountable? That is the question here because as Jill alluded to in her own thoughts if you and/or I and those reading along were inciting emotions to cause harm to others and/or property damage we wouldn’t be given a free pass. Go figure.

Definitely some bad actors at play, Trump and Vance cited Ohio AG pushing the conspiracy chorus about Haitians in Springfield.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost on Wednesday did his bit to amplify a conspiracy theory that Haitian immigrants legally present in Springfield, Ohio are stealing and eating pets, ducks and geese.
The conspiracy has been debunked by the Springfield mayor, city manager and chief of police, as well as by Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. Yost is looking to succeed DeWine as governor in 2026.
“Citizens testified to City Council,” Yost posted on X Wednesday. “These people would be competent witnesses in court. Why does the media find a carefully worded City Hall press release better evidence?”
Many of Springfield’s public buildings were closed for much of the day Thursday due to bomb threats after former President Donald Trump on Tuesday repeated a widely debunked conspiracy theory that Haitian immigrants were stealing people’s pets and eating them.
“They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” he said during a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Jill, adding JD Vance to the untruthful and illicit acting Trump ticket is actually a subtraction. He brings his own large set of baggage and propensity to open mouth and insert foot. These two need to be told directly, if you cannot add value or tell the truth, please stop talking. Keith

PS – Here in North Carolina, there is a god-awful candidate running for governor named Mark Robinson who has a long laundry of bad actions and statements. He makes Vance look good in compariison. Keith

Jill, I left a message with Senator Vance’s office. As an independent of 15+ years and former Republican of 25+ years, I shared that these threats of violence in Springfield are wrong. Violence is not the answer regardless of party. Full stop.
I added too many people are believing the BS the former president is spouting and are taking action. Vance’s words are not helping matters. I told him I have beseeched other Republican leaders to condemn Trump for his misstatements. The Haitian story has been proven to be untrue. So, please help put a lid on the rhetoric or people might get hurt.

Jill, per the Daily Kos:
“George Will has endorsed Kamala Harris for president. Watch out for flying pigs.
The ultra-conservative, and baseball fan, comes to his decision reluctantly. He sees the need to dump Trump. “

I saw that!!!! And my jaw dropped! I could see George Will refusing to vote for Trump, but his support of Harris did shock me … in a really good way. But then, I’ve always respected Will, though I rarely agree with him on issues of policy.

This is what troubles me.
When you see the ‘I’ll have jush wun more lil’ drink,’ mentality within that 2025 anti-democratic manifesto, there will be myriad ways to make that unworkable by ordinary low-key demonstrations, legal challenges and mild civil disobedience. That’s before you get around to the topic of dismissing substantial numbers of trained, experienced staff and replacing them with unexperienced unsuitable apparatchiks then hoping it all works.
There is no need for violence. And yet….
Just take a figure. Say 60,000,000 folk voted against Trump, and yet he wins.
10% are really, really angry- That’s 6,000,000
10% of the 10% have violence orientated thoughts – that’s 600,000.
10% of that 10% would contemplate it on a regular basis. -that’s down to 60,000
But 10% of the above 10% decide to take action.
That’s 6,000 (one in a thousand, I think). In a nation with so much easy access to guns.
And there’s the reaction by the Right.
I’ve said it before, bears repeating The Right in the USA are just not ready for the consequences of what they are fooling with.
We witnessed it in Northern Ireland in the last third of the 20th Century.

Tread warily. When the folks with the guns take hold, it never works out well for either side.
There are still many ways a Trump intended administration can be screwed into unworkable. They haven’t got a history of real cast iron political security service to fall back on*
For all its flaws the systems is still essentially democratic. 50,000,000 folk just saying ‘That’s fish four days old. I won’t buy it!’ -Dallas from Sweet Smell of Success’- and Walking the Walk. Is the better alternative.
I hope the USA veers away from the worst case scenario. That one only helps Russia and China.
*(You need an embedded one. The Soviets inherited theirs from the Czars and in post WWII Warsaw Pact nations were willing to re-hire ex-right wing security who had seen the ‘error’ of their ways)

We in the UK witnessed it across the water in Northern Ireland and in our own part paid some of the price.
And by some mix of good fortune, some wise heads, some war weariness managed to survive.
Although nearly lost it through Brexit.
Other nations, communities, regions went down another road, some made it, some didn’t, some are still locked into conflict.
There are already defiant movements using the civil path, they need more volunteers, that’s all.

If we find ourselves on the underground next year, resisting the NAZIs
A tactic that dates to the sixties: with a heavy lead carpenter’s pencil write the simple message of your choice ~ No War! ~ across the back of a one dollar ($1) bill. Nobody looks at the back of bills, not in everyday transactions, especially if your message is discreet: Trump is a Traitor! But somewhere, at some point in time, usually at a bank, someone has to begin the process to pull that bill out of circulation and properly disposed of. It could be a vendor: a minimart/gas station or laundromat, supermarket or drug store, but usually at a bank someone has to set that bill aside and record the serial number as defaced
At some later point someone must gather up all the bills set aside and re-record them as defaced before packaging them up to be shipped to the central bank. Where it is again gathered into a greater pile and re-re-recorded before packaging and shipping to the mint. At the mint all the recording are double-and-triple-checked as the bills are processed for proper disposal: burned
It’s hard to quantify what that costs, but estimates during Dick and George’s Excellent Little Adventure (chicken-shit war) in Iraq put it somewhere between twelve (12) and fifteen (15) dollars in man/labor hours to sort each one of those bills out, get them to the mint and burned. Adjusted for inflation probably spend twenty dollars ($20) today to dispose of each one of those dollar bills
Sand in the gears with virtually no risk to the protestor

Because the Republican candidates are at wit’s end, they can’t find the, right ways to, try to win the elections, so they are now, spreading rumors, hoping to get those who are still undecided to vote for them, it’s their, attempt to, grab at a hold of, those, final straws, as they feel that they’re about to lose, and what’s sad is, that, some voters are, still buying into their, L-I-E-S…
