Try as I might, I cannot get the bounce out of my head tonight. Admittedly, I’ve fallen into a bit of a rabbit hole over the past few days (hence the fact that I am a full day behind on responding to comments — my humble apologies) and I just cannot think clearly at the moment. I suspect many of you are feeling the same … overload, too much uncertainty, too many “what if”s, and too many potentially dark scenarios fill our heads. Well, friends, let’s try to lighten the moment with a few of the better political cartoons I’ve found over the past few days and see if a few chuckles might help our minds get back on track …
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr … My hackles are raised just about as high as they can go. I just read that the asshole posing as a presidential candidate said “… well, I’m going to do it whether the women like it or not. I am going to protect them.” Sounds remarkably like a vile threat to me!!! Whether we like it or not??? What the hell is this, Donnie, Nazi Germany??? I have one thing to say to Mr. Trump:
“You will NOT protect me from anything, you lousy bastard, and if you come near me, I’ll show you what a baseball bat upside the head can do!!!”
This is just a bridge too far! He’ll protect us from what? Let me tell you what he’ll protect us from:
He will ‘protect’ us from earning the same pay as a male counterpart for doing the same work.
He will ‘protect’ us from having rules ensuring our safety in the workplace.
He will ‘protect’ us from having a livable environment – you know, things like clean air and water.
He will ‘protect’ us from being able to seek justice against those who would do us harm, such as sexual abusers.
He will ‘protect’ us from having a voice in our government.
He will ‘protect’ us from being able to divorce our spouse if the marriage isn’t working, or if we are being abused.
He will ‘protect’ us from choosing to marry the person we love.
He will ‘protect’ us from surviving an ectopic or otherwise lethal pregnancy.
He will ‘protect’ us from receiving competent medical care.
He will ‘protect’ us from making our own medical decisions.
He will ‘protect’ us from having a life of our own choosing.
And all whether we like it … or not. The truth is that Donald Trump will throw women under the wheels of a very large, heavy bus of misogyny!!! Never before in my 73 years have I despised anyone more than I despise Donald Trump. Any woman who casts a vote for him is a bloody fool who apparently has been convinced that she is of no value. And any man who votes for him is contributing to the downfall of the human species, for he would take us backward hundreds of years.
Good Monday morning, friends! Do you feel a chill in the air today? I’m not sure if the temperature has dropped or if the ghosts ‘n goblins ‘n witches ‘n other spooky creatures are here, making their devious plans for Thursday. My fondest memory of Hallowe’en is when granddaughter Natasha was about 3-4 years old and we took her trick-or-treating for the very first time. We prompted her, “Say ‘Trick or Treat’!” She did fine for a few houses, but by about the 3rd or 4th one, when the lady answered the door, Natasha simply held out her bag and said, “More candy, please.” At least she said please … at least I think she did, as best I recall. Natasha is now all grown up and will celebrate her 30th birthday next month. Time flies, doesn’t it? Since Hallowe’en is right ’round the corner, Joyful and I have fixed some special treats for you today, so help yourself at the buffet table and then we’ll go in search of some humour to start the week off with smiles, ‘k?

I had actually just finished another serious (read: political) post when I realized that my cartoon stash was near to overflowing, plus having done almost nothing but serious posts for the past week I though maybe it was time for some ‘toons to break the spell. I don’t know how these cartoonists keep doing it day after day, coming up with new and innovative cartoons to help us understand what’s happening out there in the world and doing so with humour, but my hat is off to them!
I was almost finished with Part IV of my story when I went to bed last night. I expected to get up this morning and finish it for this afternoon’s post, but apparently my body had other ideas and I didn’t wake up until 12:15 this afternoon!!! Needless to say, by the time the kitties and other critters were fed, coffee made, laundry gathered, etc., I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish it in time for this afternoon’s post … it’s not something I can just rush through. So, please forgive me for only offering ‘toons this afternoon, but I think you’ll find some humour, albeit the dark sort, here! And on a bright note, that 12 hours or so of sleep has really made a difference, as I’m feeling considerably better this afternoon!

The weather is gettin’ cooler, da trees are startin’ to turn gold ‘n brown ‘n orange, and … guess what we’ve got? A carved Jack o’lantern! Miss Goose carved one last week, but it sort of caved in, so she’s gonna carve another one dis week! Anyway, help yourself to some tweats and let’s “get dis show on da road” as Gwammie says!

Good Monday morning, dear friends! How was your weekend? As I noted on Saturday, I went out with the girls (daughter Chris and granddaughter Natasha) and had a great time! It was my first outing since catching Covid in early September! We had a nice late lunch, then spent an hour or so browsing at Barnes & Noble where I seemed to lose all sense of economy and bought three books!!! I’m not sure what I was thinking when I bought the latest by Stephen King, for in my current state of borderline depression, it’s probably not the most advisable thing to read, but … oh well … I’m enjoying it! And then we stopped at Fresh Market where I got some fresh berries ‘n grapes. It may have been a bit more than I should have done, for I was exhausted all day on Sunday, but it was so nice to get out that it was well worth it. And now, here we are on Monday morn, time to put our noses back to the grindstone, eh? It’s a good thing I’m retired!!! Anyway, Joyful has cooked up a few treats for us, so let’s go grab a snack and then find some humour to start the week off with a chuckle or a laugh, shall we?
