Jolly {cough, cough} Monday!

Good Monday morning, dear friends!  Yes, Monday has rolled around once again … time to drag out the suits ‘n ties, the briefcases … unless, of course, you’re retired like me and can happily stay in your jammies all day long!  Then Monday doesn’t seem so bad!  So, did you all have a fun weekend?  I stayed in … the air quality is very poor and I have enough trouble catching my breath inside the air-conditioned house, so I think it would be a very bad idea to go out in the heat & humidity and don a mask on top of it all.  I hope the weather is not so oppressive where you are!  Well, Joyful has been in the kitchen for a couple of hours now … she said she promised you guys double bacon today to make up for last Monday … so let’s go see what she’s cooked up, then go see if we can find something to tickle our funny bones and start the week with a chuckle, ‘k?

We found some more music puns over at Phil’s Phun we thought you might enjoy …

Naturally there must be ‘toons!!!

And a bit of new toilet humour from over at Phil’s …

And last, but never least, of course there must be a cute critter video, right?  I think that Kayden and Tallulah will bring a smile to your faces as you watch them form a friendship …

Well, friends, I’m sad to see our time together come to an end, but we all have things we need to get done this Monday morning.  We hope you’ve enjoyed Jolly Monday this week and hope you have a really great week ahead!  Remember to share those smiles with others whose smiles are turned the wrong way, okay?  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly ‘n Joyful!!!

The Jolly Monday That Almost Wasn’t

Good Monday morning friends!  Y’know … sometimes Jolly is really hard to find.  I was just about to give up on even posting a Jolly Monday, but I finally found Jolly and Joyful hiding in the clothes hamper upstairs!  I dragged them back downstairs and reminded them just how important it is, especially in these very trying times, to help our friends start their week with a smile, or perhaps even a chuckle.  And so, we all rallied to the cause and hope we can help start the week on a happy note for you all.  Now, Joyful is still a bit on the sad side, so I told her to keep the buffet simple this morning, but she insisted she was in the mood for comfort food.  Grab a plate … er, a bowl … and let’s find some things to smile about, shall we?

I made dis one on account of it’s Pride Month!!!

Jolly was over at Phil’s Phun looking for some ‘toons when he called me and said, “Gwammie … come quick … you jus’ gotta see dis”.  So, I hopped on my broomstick and rode over to Phil’s where Jolly showed me some funny music-themed puns that Phil had.  Well, naturally I had to bring a few home to share with you guys …

Hi … it’s me, Jolly!  Yeah … me ‘n Joyful wuz hiding ’cause we didn’t feel vewy Jolly or Joyful, but Gwammie reminded us that we have a duty to you guys … and we luv you lots, so we’re doin’ our best to make you smile.  Anyway, Gwammie gave me “cartoon duty” and dis is what I came up with … I hope dey make you smile …

In the mood for some funny animal-themed memes?

And of course we cannot conclude Jolly Monday without a cute critter video, now can we?  Lotsa love in this one …

And so begins another week.  I don’t know what dramas and traumas this week will bring for us all, but at least we started it out on the right foot and hopefully with smiles and chuckles.  Keep safe and have a good week, and please, my friends, remember to share those gorgeous smiles I see on your faces … we all need as many smiles as we can get!  In case you run out … there’s a basketful of smiles at the door … feel free to drop in any time and grab a few.  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly and Joyful!

Jolly Father’s Day Monday!

Good Monday Morning and a Happy Day-After-Father’s-Day to all the great dads out there!  Yes, yes … I know that Father’s Day was yesterday, but I wanted to be ‘fashionably late’, as they say.  And anyway, I thought that rather than some droll retelling of the history of the day, it would be more fun to dedicate an entire Jolly Monday to dads, ‘cause most of the ones I know appreciate a bit of humour (not to mention bacon).  And since this Jolly Monday is dedicated to Father’s Day, you will find ‘dad-foods’ on the buffet this morning!  So, grab a snack and let’s have some dad-type humour to start our week with a smile or a chuckle.

Gwammie put me in charge of findin’ some ‘toons an’ memes about dads ‘n stuff, so here’s what I came up with … I hope you likes ‘em …

I went in search of some dad-related jokes …

  • I asked my dad to help me with a math problem. He said: “Don’t worry; this is a piece of cake.” I said: “No, it’s a math problem.”

  • Being a great father is like shaving. No matter how good you shaved today, you have to do it again tomorrow.

  • Dad: You’ll never amount to anything because you procrastinate. Son: Oh yeah? Just you wait!

  • Dad Wisdom: I know what I’m getting for Father’s Day. Last night my daughter asked me what size aftershave I wear.

  • Dad: Hi, Sweetie, how was school today? Daughter: You can read all about it on my Facebook, Dad!

  • Dear Dad, $chool i$ really great. I am making lot$ of friend$ and $tudying very hard. With all my $tuff, I $imply can’t think of anything I need, $o if you would like, you can ju$t $end me a card, a$ I would love to hear from you. Love, Your $on
    • Dear Son, I kNOw that astroNOmy, ecoNOmics, and oceaNOgraphy are eNOugh to keep even an hoNOr student busy. Do NOt forget that the pursuit of kNOwledge is a NOble task, and you can never study eNOugh. Love, Dad

  • Dad Wisdom: Why, in a country of free speech, are there phone bills?

  • Dad: Let me see your report card. Son: I don’t have it. Dad: Why not? Son: My friend just borrowed it. He wants to scare his parents.

And … we even found a special critter video of a tiger cub meeting her father for the first time …

I hope all you dads had a wonderful day yesterday yesterday and that you enjoyed our efforts on this Jolly Monday!  Keep safe and have a good week ahead!  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly & Joyful!

Jolly Monday, Evermore

Hi … it’s me, Jolly!  Gwammie will be here in a minute … she’s having a bit of twouble waking up dis morning.  GWAMMIE!!!  Huwwy … our fwiends are here!

Huh?  Wha-wha-who-how???  {yawn}  Oh … heh heh … hi everyone!  Sorry I’m a little late to the party!  These sleepless nights are taking a toll.  So, it’s Monday again already, huh?  Jolly … did you pull together some fun to make our friends smile this morning?  Ohhhhh … what is that I smell?  Something smells really yummy and it’s making my tummy grumble … let’s go see what Joyful has cooked up this morning, shall we?

Since da bacon lovers whinged last week, I made extra this week!

Well, now that we’ve all got a bit of breakfast or snack, Jolly tells me he popped over to Phil’s Phun this morning and found some ‘toons to make us laugh …

Some memes, just in case the ‘toons weren’t enough to make you chuckle …

And we found some funny signs …

This one isn’t funny, but I saw it over at Phil’s and … I just think it says it all … if everyone had this philosophy, the world would be a much nicer place …

And to round out Jolly Monday, naturally we have a cute animal video!  Meet Peaches & Skippy …

Well, friends, that’s a wrap for this Jolly Monday.  We’re so sad to see you leave, but we know you have things to do, places to go, and people to see, so we hope you have a wonderful week ahead.  Keep safe, be happy, and please share those gorgeous smiles!!!  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly & Joyful

Jolly Cold Monday Afternoon!

G-g-good M-M-Monday a-afterrnoon my friends!  It’s c-c-cold here with temps in the single digits and a few inches of snow outside!  Are any of my friends in Australia in need of some company this week?  Brrrrrrrrrr.  We’re having Jolly Monday a few hours later than usual this week, because it is Martin Luther King Day and I wanted to lead with that this morning, but never fear, we are here!

Well, here it is, the beginning of another week.  Do you realize that January is already more than halfway over?  Before you know it, it’ll be time to start planning the Thanksgiving meal again!  My girls still have their Easter baskets out from last year … not much point in putting them away now, is there?  Anyway, Joyful has some nice warm treats to help you stave off the cold today, while we all have some fun things in store for you.  So, grab a snack and a cuppa something warm, and let’s have a few laughs, shall we?

We have a few cute pictures that made us go “Awwwwwwwwwwwww”, and we think you will too …

And of course, the staple of Jolly Monday is always the ‘toons …

I was in the mood for a ‘knock-knock’ joke or two …

  • Knock! Knock!
    • Who’s there?
    • Mikey
    • Mikey who?
    • Mikey isn’t working, can you let me in?
  • Knock! Knock!
    • Who’s there?
    • Scold
    • Scold who?
    • Scold outside, let me in!
  • Knock! Knock!
    • Who’s there?
    • Needle
    • Needle who?
    • Needle little help getting in the door!
  • Knock! Knock!
    • Who’s there?
    • I am.
    • I am who?
    • You tell me!!

Okay, corny I know, but every now and then I just like a good knock-knock joke!  Now, because we have a few very dedicated bacon-lovers here on Monday mornings, here’s a bit of bacon humour …

And last but never least, it just isn’t Jolly Monday without a cute critter video …

I hope you all have a great week … keep warm and safe, and share those beautiful smiles I see on your faces!  Until next Monday, love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly, and Joyful!

Jolly First Monday In August!

Good Monday morning my friends!  Wh-wha … first Monday in August???  Where has this year gone?  Just a few days ago it was March!  Sigh … the girls are already talking about Hallowe’en decorations and Christmas shopping … STOP the world!  I wanna get off!  I’m not ready to plunge back into the holidays yet!

I hope you all had a great, relaxing weekend and now you’re ready to put those noses back to the grindstones and … sigh … who am I kidding … it’s Monday, and none of us are likely eager to get back to the salt mines, but hey … who knows but that something wonderful might come your way this week!  Tell you what … Jolly, Joyful and I will do our level best to try to help start your week off with a smile, a chuckle, or maybe even a laugh, and perhaps that will set the tone for the entire week!  For starters, let’s go see what surprises Joyful has whipped up for us today.  She didn’t confide in me, but when she went to the store on Saturday, she bought 2 or 3 bags of lemons, so be prepared …

When a big mouth isn’t a bad thing … maybe

Who knew that having a big mouth could get you into the Guinness Book of Records?  Samantha Ramsdell, 31, went viral multiple times on TikTok when she showed off the size of her mouth, leading her to seek the Guinness record for the world’s largest mouth gape (female).  So, a ‘Guinness adjudicator’ accompanied Ramsdell to her local dentist’s office in South Norwalk, Connecticut, where her gape was measured at 2.56 inches.

Ramsdell has 1.7 million followers, and has even done duet videos with Isaac Johnson, whose 4-inch gape earned him the male version of the record.  Says Ramsdell …

“If I had advice for anyone who had a large body part, or something really unique, and they wanted to go for the Guinness World Records title, I would say do it!”

Okay then … moving right along …

Fun facts

Every now and then it’s fun to pop over to Mental Floss’ Fact Generator and learn something new, so that’s what I did while Joyful was cooking and Jolly was over at Phil’s Phun finding cartoons.  I found a few interesting facts …

  • Trained pigeons can differentiate between the paintings of Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet. (Whoa!  Smart birds!)
  • Citizens of the Soviet Union began celebrating the defeat of Germany in World War II as soon as it was announced. Less than 24 hours later, the entire country was out of vodka. (Those Russians sure know how to celebrate!)
  • When Disneyland was opened in 1955, “Tomorrowland” was designed to look like a year in the distant future: 1986.
  • The ancestor of the modern chainsaw was invented to facilitate childbirth. (Um … I wish I could ‘un-see’ this one!)

Okay then … let’s see what kind of cartoons Jolly brought back from Phil’s …

Jolly forgot the Maxine toons.  Luckily I had a few in reserve …

And we can’t let you leave without a cute animal video, now can we?  Meet Dash, the tiny rescued baby tiger …

Well, folks, I hope you all have a wonderful week and that you find a few special moments this week.  Be sure to share those smiles … they seem extra bright this week — must have been all the lemon treats!!  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly & Joyful!

Jolly Monday — Jolly ‘n Joyful Take Over

Hi fwiends, it’s us, Jolly ‘n Joyful!  Gwammie says she’s ‘under da weather’ today, so we gots to take over an’ make your Monday morning fun!  We don’ know what she means by under da weather, ‘coz she’s in da house, but anyway … she’s old so we gots to do what she says.  Joyful made some yummy snacks … she wouldn’t let me help … wouldn’t even let me in da kitchen!  So, have a snack and den Joyful says we should start out with some cute pictures we found …

An’ we got lots ‘n lots of funny ‘toons (I don’t get some of ’em, but Gwammie says dey are funny)

An’ Joyful found some funny signs last night … at least, I think they’re funny …

An’ I guess you guys want a cute animal video too, huh?  Well, I founded one for you!  I like da beaver eatin’ da snow bestest … what’s your favourite?

Well, dat’s all me ‘n Joyful gots for today, but we hope you ‘joyed it!  As Gwammie always says, share your smiles and make other peoples happy too!  Oh … an’ have a wunnerful week!   Love ‘n hugs from Jolly ‘n Joyful … an’ Gwammie!

Jolly — Ho Ho Ho — Monday!

Good morning, and welcome once again to Jolly Monday where our whole raison d’etre is to help you start the week off with a smile!  So, how was your weekend?  Mine?  Meh … weekend, weekday, they’re all pretty much the same for me these days, but I’ve got no complaints.  I caught the little kids from down the street eating the unsalted, unshelled peanuts – shell and all – that I put out for the squirrels yesterday and had to tell them not to take the squirrels’ peanuts, for they would make them sick.  Which is probably true, considering the squirrels and birds walk all over the peanuts all day long, and the birds are not particular about where they poop!

Well, let’s go see what Joyful has cooked up for us this morning, and then we’ll go find some fun stuff to get this week rolling on the right foot … er wheel?

Sometimes I like to just play around with the Amazing Fact Generator over on the Mental Floss website.  I always learn something useless but interesting and fun!  A few samples from this week …

  • Floccinaucinihilipilification—one of the longest words in the English language—is the act of estimating that something is worthless.
  • Honey hunters in Mozambique use special calls to recruit the services of birds known as honeyguides. The birds lead the humans to bees’ nests and in return, they get the leftover beeswax.
  • In 1998, a Georgia student was suspended for wearing a Pepsi shirt to “Coke in Education Day.”
  • In her will, author Dorothy Parker left her estate to Martin Luther King Jr. and the NAACP following his death. The organization still owns the rights to her work today.
  • Opossums don’t “play dead.” When frightened, they become overexcited and pass out.

I found a few jokes that actually made me chuckle yesterday.

  • When my local barista handed me my change, one coin stood out. “Look at that. You rarely get one of these old wheat pennies nowadays,” I said, tapping the sheaf of-wheat design. I handed her the penny. Turning it over and over in her hand, she said, “You know, I always thought they were made of copper.” —Linda Neukrug

  • I tried having my mother’s phone disconnected, but the customer-service rep told me that since the account was in my dad’s name, he’d have to be the one to put in the request. The fact that he’d been dead for 40 years didn’t sway her. Then a solution hit me: “If I stop paying the bill, you can turn off the service, right?” “Well, yes,” she said reluctantly. “But that would ruin his credit.” —Jeannie Gibbs

  • To resolve conflicts between management and staff, I brought both sides together and asked employees to jot down key words on a flip chart. One participant complained about management’s tendency to interfere and wrote the word nitpicking. A manager leaped to his feet to ask, “Shouldn’t there be a hyphen between nit and picking?” —E. Howson

  • It was my first night caring for an elderly patient. When he grew sleepy, I wheeled his chair as close to the bed as possible and, using the techniques I’d learned in school, grasped him in a bear hug to lift him onto the bed. But I couldn’t clear the top of the mattress. So I grabbed him again, summoned all my might, and hoisted him onto the bed. When the night shift nurse arrived, I recounted what had happened. “Funny,” she said, looking puzzled. “Usually I just ask him to get in bed, and he does.” —Erin Dockery

And now, it’s … the moment you’ve all been waiting for … drumroll please 🥁 … ‘TOON TIME!!!!

And last, but never least, if it’s Jolly Monday, we must have an adorable critter video!  I think you’ll fall in love with this one — I did!

And for our good friend Hugh … feel better soon, dear friend!

Well, folks, that’s a wrap for this Monday morning.  I hope you’ll share those beautiful smiles this week as you see people who seem to be lacking one of their own.  A smile is one of those things that multiplies when shared!  Have a wonderful week ahead!  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly & Joyful!

Jolly Monday … A Few Laughs To Start Your Week!

Good Monday morn, my friends.  I hope you all had a fun weekend and are ready to put your nose back against that proverbial corporate grindstone.  Except those of us who are retired, of course … we will happily read, write, sleep, cook, go for walks … but we’ll be thinking of you the entire time!  Anyway, it is Monday morning, and Joyful has returned from decorating Roger’s tower, so there will be no more kitchen disasters like last Monday!  I’m not sure what Joyful has cooked up for us this morning, so let’s go see, grab a snack, then find some fun things to start our week out with a smile.

It all started a year ago when pandemic boredom set in and Josh Swain, a 22-year-old college student from Tucson, Arizona, messaged others who shared his name on social media and challenged them to a duel.  No no … no guns, swords, knives or even slingshots … just pool noodles!

Swain sent the following Facebook message to a group of people with his name in 2020:

“We fight, whoever wins gets to keep the name, everyone else has to change their name, you have a year to prepare, good luck.”

It took nearly a year to organize, but this weekend, hundreds showed up at Air Park in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the ‘duel’.  The festivities started with a “grueling and righteous battle of Rock, Paper, Scissors” between the Josh Swain from Arizona and another Josh Swain from Omaha. KLKN-TV reports that the Arizona student won that competition, allowing him to claim the title of the true Josh Swain.

The pool-noodle competition that followed was open to anyone with the first name of Josh.

But, in addition to the activities and the good fun that was had by all, there was another positive effect.  People donated nearly 300 pounds of food for the Food Bank of Lincoln and raised more than $8,000 for the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center Foundation in Omaha.

And the winner of the noodle duel is … {drumroll}4 year old Josh Vinson who was coronated with a Burger King crown!  The newly crowned Josh was unable to keep the crown on his head, as it dropped to his shoulders, but he proudly wore his championship belt!

I found a few signs … well, actually Phil did and I’m borrowing them … that I thought you’d get a kick out of …

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for … ‘TOONS!!!!

How about a few funny memes before we go?

And last, but not least, this week’s funny animal video!  These baby animals are just now figuring things out … some days I know just how they feel!!!

And now, sadly, it’s time for you to go to work and for me to go to bed … er … um … clean the kitchen, do laundry, feed the critters, and more!  Oops … can’t leave without a bit of Maxine’s wisdom, now can we?

I hope you all have a wonderful week … please remember to share the smiles you’re wearing right this minute, for some people didn’t get to come here for Jolly Monday and they might not have a smile.  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly, and Joyful!

Jolly (I Want My Hour BACK) Monday!

MondayGood morning, my friends, and … welcome … to … Monday.  Sigh.  Yes, it’s happened again, the weekend flew by and suddenly, without warning, it’s Monday again.  Well, we were cheated this week, at least here in the U.S., for the clocks were set forward by one hour in the wee hours of Sunday morning, robbing us of an hour’s sleep!  It always takes me at least a week, sometimes longer, for my Circadian Rhythm to get back in sync, until which time I am perpetually tired ‘n grumpy.  Oh wait … what’s new, right?  Anyway, Joyful has been doing a bit of baking this morning, so help yourself to a treat and a hot drink and let’s start this week out with smiles, shall we?

A story to make you smile …

Tanya works as a server at Slyman’s Tavern in Independence, Ohio.  She happened to be working a few days ago when two elderly women came in for dinner.  As sometimes happens, they struck up a conversation, telling Tanya that they were both widows who rarely, if ever, cooked a meal for themselves, so they really enjoyed their meals out together.  Tanya could relate, for her own husband had died just last April, so with that common bond, the three women chatted intermittently between courses.

Imagine Tanya’s surprise, then, when the women, whose bill totaled $100.21, left Tanya a $2,021 tip!  See, folks, just another example of the many good people out there!  No, this isn’t my Wednesday ‘good people’ post, but I just had to share this one anyway, for it brought a smile to my face and I hope to yours as well.

The story from Associated Press …

Wurst case: Burglar caught over bite from German’s sausage

March 11, 2021

German police say they have solved a nine-year-old burglary after DNA found on a half-eaten piece of sausage matched that of a man detained in France over an unrelated crime.

Police in the western town of Schwelm said Thursday that the sausage belonged to the victim, and the suspect — a 30-year-old Albanian citizen — appeared to have helped himself to a bite during the March 2012 break-in.

It wasn’t clear what type of sausage — known in Germany as wurst — the burglar had nibbled, though police said it was a hard variety.

Investigators were recently alerted that French police had taken a matching DNA sample from a man involved in a violent crime.

But Schwelm police said the suspect remains free and, in the wurst case, he may escape punishment. The statute of limitations on the burglary has expired, meaning he will likely not be extradited to Germany.

And the moral of the story … if you’re going to break into someone’s home, don’t eat the damn sausages!

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for … ‘TOONS!!!

For the bacon-lovers in the crowd …

I just can’t resist these cute animal pictures …

Just two funny signs this week …

Y’know, Jolly wanted to try his hand at doing this morning’s Jolly Monday all by himself, and since I was pretty tired I told him to go ahead, I’d read a while and check on him in a couple of hours.  But, when I came in to check on him, he had uploaded about 3 cartoons, written not a word, and was sound asleep at the keyboard!  Nonetheless, he did wake up in time to find this funny critter video for us!

And just for you, Hugh Curtler …

Okay, folks, I guess it’s time we all get on with this week and try to somehow make the world a little bit better place if we can.  Have a great week, remember to share a smile here and there as you go about your week.  Love ‘n hugs from Filosofa, Jolly & Joyful!
