The picture above is of two children, Yorlei Rubi, 10, and Jonathan Agustín Briones de la Sancha, 8 who, along with their mother, Victerma de la Sancha Cerros, drowned in the Rio Grande River last Friday night. On Sunday, I shared Heather Cox Richardson’s newsletter telling this tragic story. In short, around 9 p.m. Friday, Mexican officials advised Border Patrol of six migrants in distress on the US side of the river in the area near the Shelby Park boat ramp. Border Patrol agents were attempting to get to them, but they were physically blocked from doing so by none other than the Texas National Guard and the Texas State Police, under orders of ‘Governor’ Greg Abbott.
Consequently, these two children and their mother are dead, and in my view, Governor Abbott and every single person who stopped them from being rescued have blood on their hands that I hope gives them nightmares every night for the rest of their lives.
This is not the first time, nor will it be the last that people, including children, have been killed simply for the ‘crime’ of trying to come to the United States in hopes of a better life for themselves and their families. But frankly, there is no ‘better life’ here in the racist nation that has so little regard for human life that we treat immigrants in this manner. Sorry, folks, but only straight, white Christians are allowed to come here.
I have never been more ashamed of this country than I am today.
