Another Nasty Comes Out From The Woodwork

Today, I want to introduce you to a man who currently holds the position of Lieutenant Governor of the state of North Carolina, Mr. Mark Keith Robinson.

Mr. Robinson has only held the office of Lieutenant Governor for just over two years, but next month, on April 22nd, he plans to announce his candidacy for the office of Governor, hoping to replace the outgoing Democratic Governor Roy Cooper.  Before I opine on Mr. Robinson, let’s take a quick look at his qualifications for the position.

After high school, Robinson served in the Army Reserve, then worked at several furniture factories, during which time he took history classes at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with the goal of securing a degree and becoming a history teacher.  He did not finish at the University, nor did he earn a degree.  His interest in ‘conservative’ politics he credits to a book he read by … of all people … Rush Limbaugh, the ultra-bigoted conspiracy-theorist political commentator.  That said, Mr. Robinson has virtually no qualifications to be Governor of the State of North Carolina and hold the lives of some 10.55 million people in his hands.

I will let his words speak to his views:

  • “The Rainbow is the beautiful symbol of God’ s promise to man. IT IS NOT the symbol of sickening homosexual perversion!!!!”
  • “February is Black History Month. I guess the shortest month of the year is all we need to learn about the separate but equal history of a people who have achieved so little.” (You might note from Mr. Robinson’s photo above that he, himself, is Black)

  • “I don’t believe the Moon Landing was faked and I don’t believe 9/11 was an ‘inside job’ but if I found both were true…I wouldn’t be surprised.”
  • “I am SERIOUSLY skeptical of EVERYTHING I see and have seen on television. From the murder of JFK to 9/11 to Las Vegas. EVERYTHING.”

Well, you get the idea, right?  Robinson is anti-abortion, equating it to murder even though he paid for his then-girlfriend to have an abortion back in 1989.  He is a climate change denier, and has indicated that he wants to remove science and social studies from first through fifth grade curriculum, as well as abolish the State Board of Education.  He is rabidly anti-Semitic, anti-LGBTQ, and has called former President Obama “a worthless, anti-American atheist.”

Heard enough yet?  There’s plenty more where that came from1.  Mr. Robinson has declared bankruptcy three times, and has defaulted on his taxes, causing the Internal Revenue Service to place liens on him and his property more than once, most recently in 2012.

Ten years ago, I would have laughed at Mr. Robinson’s bid for the governorship, but that was before an equally nasty, unqualified ‘man’ found the path to the Oval Office in 2016, and now all bets are off.  What I found even more disturbing than Robinson’s bigotry and hate-filled rhetoric is the support he has garnered.  He won the Lieutenant Governorship by a relatively slim margin of 3.26% over Democrat Yvonne Lewis Holley in 2020 with some 2,800,655 votes.  Nearly 3 million people in the state of North Carolina like this buffoon so filled with hatred and racism!!!  One of my sources listed a link to Robinson’s Facebook page, so I went and took a look for myself.  I only viewed a handful, maybe 10 of his posts, and nothing was too terribly disgusting … until I got to the comments.  Readers telling him how much they loved him, telling him he would have their vote for Governor, and several even envisioning him as President some day!  Seriously, people, common sense has done flown out the damned window throughout this nation, not just in North Carolina!

For the sake of my own sanity, I spent only about 5 minutes perusing Mr. Robinson’s Facebook page and the comments, shot off two one-liners questioning the commenter’s sanity, then returned back to my own world!  However, if you’re interested, feel free to do a little digging of your own, using the link above.

There are 20 months remaining until the 2024 elections.  Somehow, some way, we MUST educate the people of this country, must show them the dangerous waters people like Mark Keith Robinson would lead this nation into.  I don’t know how, but … somehow.  If I believed in the power of prayer, I would fall to my knees and beg god to instill some common sense into the people of this nation.  Sadly, that is not going to happen, so We the People must work to try to open the eyes of the blind.

Saturday Surprise — Animal Art!

Good Saturday morning, my friends!  After this past week, I bet you’re ready to step away from the political scene, from the news-making events, and find something fun and relaxing to start the weekend, yes?  Well, look no further!  I have just the ticket …

I make no secret of the fact that I have no artistic talent … none, nada, nunc!  My granddaughter Natasha, on the other hand, is very artistic and has drawn some beautiful pictures, though of late she seems to have lost interest somewhat.  Anyway … I have tremendous respect for those with artistic talent whether their style is classic, street art, manga or any other style.  Yesterday I came across an artist I hadn’t heard of before, Shannon Mayhew.  Says Ms. Mayhew …

I’m a self-taught artist living in Iowa, creating hyperrealistic animal artwork. For as far back as I can remember, I would draw animals and cartoon characters, which both of my grandmas would hang on their fridges. I checked out book after book from the library that taught you different drawing techniques. I taught myself how to draw, although I do credit, my grandma, for my artistic abilities. She herself was an artist and I always say that I inherited my talents from her.

Here are some of the drawings I made. My flamingo took me 42 hours to complete, the lynx took 32 hours to complete and my whitetail buck took 63 hours to complete. You can see more of my work on social media. (Instagram; Facebook)

Her artwork is fantastic … it speaks for itself!

Well, folks, that’s all I’ve got for now.  Whether you go out and about or just stay home and relax this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful one!

Facebook’s ban on the Former Guy Must Remain

Tomorrow, Facebook will announce whether the former guy will be allowed back on. If he is, I will be closing my Facebook account on that same day, for it would show me the lack of values, lack of integrity of that outlet. Our friend Jeff over at On the Fence Voters weighs in on the topic, and I am 100% in agreement with him. Thanks, Jeff!

On The Fence Voters

Here’s hoping the Facebook Oversight Board (FOB) does the right thing tomorrow and keeps the indefinite ban on the disgraced former president. American democracy eagerly awaits the decision.

For those of you who might not know it, Facebook created the Board to weigh in on certain moderation decisions made by the company and make sure that those decisions were “made according to its stated values.” Whatever decision they reach tomorrow cannot be overruled – even by Zuckerburg himself.

The Former Guy is seeking reinstatement of his Facebook and Instagram accounts. Currently, his accounts on YouTube, Snapchat, and Twitter remain suspended. All social media giants responded when the mob of thugs tried to overthrow our government on January 6. The Former Guy’s reprehensible promulgation of the Big Lie that the election was stolen from him directly resulted in the events of that day.

The media companies did the right thing then…

Liars And Cheaters!

Steve Scalise is 54 years old and a member of the United States House of Representatives from the state of Louisiana.  Dan Scavino is 44 years old and currently serves as the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications and Director of Social Media.  Both of these men are legally and by most standards considered to be adults.  And yet, they have behaved in a manner more befitting 12-year-old children.

Steve-ScaliseSteve Scalise tweeted a video that spliced together footage from an interview between, Ady Barkan, who has ALS and speaks using a computerized artificial voice, and Biden.  In the original video, Barkan asks Biden if he can agree that “we can redirect some of the funding,” for police departments toward mental health services, to which Biden replies, “Yes.”

The clip tweeted out by Scalise, however, splices in the words “for police” from one of Barkan’s other questions to make it sound as if Barkan is asking Biden if he agrees they can “redirect some of the funding for police.”

Scalise used the tweet to promote the popular and false talking point that Democrats are responsible for sowing unrest as protests continue nationwide following shootings of Black people by police, adding in his tweet: “No police. Mob rule. Total chaos. That’s the result of the Democrat agenda.”  Barkan did not appreciate Scalise’s little trick, saying …

“These are not my words. I have lost my ability to speak, but not my agency or my thoughts. You and your team have doctored my words for your own political gain. Please remove this video immediately. You owe the entire disability community an apology.”

Ady-BarkanI had never heard of Mr. Barkan until tonight, but he gets two thumbs up from me!  Scalise did take the tweet down, but that isn’t the point.  The point is that an adult, a member of one of the highest governmental authorities in the nation, would lie and cheat, for that is exactly what a doctored video is … a lie, an attempt to cheat.  I thought Steve Scalise was a better man than that, but obviously I was wrong.

Dan-ScavinoDan Scavino also posted a manipulated video, this one purporting to show Joe Biden falling asleep during a live television interview.  According to Snopes …

This was not a genuine video of Biden during a television interview.

This was a mashup combining a 2011 clip of singer Harry Belafonte and a misleading clip of Biden during the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

The video of Belafonte comes from an appearance the then-84-year-old singer made on KBAK, a California television station, in October 2011. After the video went viral, Belafonte’s spokesperson released a statement blaming the singer’s “nap” on a technical glitch. The spokesperson said that Belefonte’s earpiece wasn’t working and that the singer was meditating while the issue was being worked out.

The clip of Biden comes from the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The manipulated footage appears to show Biden sleeping, but it’s clear in the original footage that Biden was never actually asleep.

The segment used in the manipulated footage comes from the moment during the DNC in which former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton endorsed Biden for president. In the full video from C-SPAN, Biden can be seen momentarily looking downward, but it doesn’t appear that he ever actually falls asleep.

The video shared by Scavino loops together a few seconds of footage from this video in which Biden either has his eyes closed or is looking downward and then plays it beneath unrelated audio of a person snoring.

Again, an adult with a responsible position, taking a salary of $179,700 per year that we the taxpayers provide, and this is the behaviour we must tolerate?

Personally, I would like to think the good people of Louisiana will abhor this juvenile behaviour on the part of their representative, Steve Scalise, and elect his democratic opponent, Lee Ann Dugas.  And as for Mr. Scavino, I will take great joy in knowing that he is likely to be fired in about five months when Joe Biden takes office.

The real danger here, folks, is that far too many people get their ‘news’ from social media such as Twitter, Facebook, or others.  These are people who are not highly educated, don’t understand much about how government works, or should work, and tend to believe whatever they read on their favourite social media platform.  They won’t stop and ask a question, or go digging for further information, or seek a fact-checker to find the truth.  Even though Scalise’s tweet was removed, by that time it had already received tens of thousands of views.  The same is true of Scavino’s tweet.  People saw, they will believe, and they will remember.  Once seen, it is unlikely to be forgotten.

Just another of the many ways in which Trump and his band of thugs are attempting to rig this election in his favour.  I wonder if there is a single republican in our government who actually possesses a conscience?  Obviously, Steve Scalise and Dan Scavino do not.

Snarky Snippets or Mini Rants?

I warn you, I am in a very foul mood tonight, and these snarky snippets are likely more like mini-rants.

Those Trumpians are real winners, eh?

We have heard of Trump’s … er, shall we say dislike … for Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota, and those of us with any sense see his tirades for what they are … the juvenile, racist rantings of an ignorant fool.  But here’s something to give you a chuckle.

Danielle-Stella

Danielle Stella

The pro-Trump person who was hoping to vie for Representative Omar’s congressional seat in 2020 is named Danielle Stella, a 31-year-old special education teacher.  Ms. Stella is a supporter of QAnon, the conspiracy theory group, if that tells you anything.  Well … turns out that twice this year, she has been arrested for shoplifting!

In January, she stole 279 items valued at $2,327.97 from a Target store in Edina, Minnesota, and in April she was accused of stealing “tick spray and other items” from a Cub Foods grocery store.  What a fine, upstanding citizen, eh?  She may be a thief, but … it won’t matter to republicans who will prefer her over Ms. Omar because why?  Because her skin is white, because her parents are of European ancestry, and that is all that matters to the vast majority of republicans today.

Oh yeah, and while Stella is busy referring to Ms. Omar as a “witch” and a “criminal”, she herself had a DUI in 2009, along with a charge of fleeing from the police!  A fine lot they are.  Their “leader” has been a criminal since he was old enough to walk, and the followers figure it’s okay for them to steal from a Target store because they are privileged and … white.

And on a related note, some jerk named Chris McDonald is calling for Representative Omar to have her citizenship revoked and be charged with treason.  My response to him is that he should have his license to be a part of the human race revoked.  (I warned you I was in a bad mood)

Another winner, friend of da trumpeter …

Jeffrey-Epstein

Jeffrey Epstein

Jeffrey Epstein … you all remember him, right?  The abhorrent sex trafficker who seems to somehow believe himself to be above the law?  Oh, that’s right … that’s a given among those in Trump’s “circle of wealth”.  Anyway, the first news I saw yesterday morning was that he was found unconscious in his jail cell with marks on his neck that seemed to indicate a failed suicide attempt.

Funny, though … it wasn’t big news, was more or less swept under the carpet.  Wonder why?  Oh yeah, that “wealthy privilege” thing again, the same thing that enabled him back in 2008 to serve his 13-month sentence in an unlocked cell, to which he only returned at night, spending his days “working” at his own company, hobnobbing with rich associates, etc.

Later in the day yesterday, it was finally reported that Epstein claims to have been beaten up, although he apparently had no cuts or bruises on his face.  And, he has been placed on suicide watch.  Given the number of young lives he has ruined, I think they should give him a good sharp knife with his supper and let him have at it.  Assuming that he did attempt to strangle himself, wouldn’t that indicate that he likely figures he’s going down for a long time this time, most likely without that VIP treatment he received last time?

Hey!  Where’s ours?

Human-rights-wealthy.JPGOn Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) levied a $5 billion fine on social media giant Facebook for taking liberties with our privacy – our personal information, including our phone numbers.  Okay, fine, but it seems not to have really fazed the company, for there was barely a blip in the value of their stock, and by Wednesday it was at an all-time high.  Now, why do you think investors didn’t lose confidence when informed of the fine?  Largely because this is the 21st century, the age of electronic spying, and it barely raises an eyebrow anymore.  This is the age of a wealthy madman in the White House and crimes among the wealthy are given mostly a wink-wink and not much more.  After all, those big corporations that pay no taxes are “trickling down” all that money to we the little folk, right?  WRONG!!!

But the thing that galls me the most about this is that the FTC is fining Facebook, Facebook will presumably pay the FTC, an agency of our federal government, but … where is ours?  WE were the ones whose information was misused, sold to advertisers who now bombard our phones with robocalls day and night.  WE are the ones who suffered … where is our share of that $5 billion?  Instead, it will go into the federal coffers so that Donald can play a few extra rounds of golf, eat another steak or two on our dime, and Junior or Ivanka can travel halfway around the globe when I can barely afford a trip to the grocery store!end-of-worldFor the record, Facebook’s revenue last year was $56 billion.  That’s $56,000,000,000.  And do you know what they paid in taxes?  Put it this way … thanks to Trump’s donor tax cut in 2017, Facebook’s effective tax rate dropped from 43% in 2017 to 16% in 2018.  There is doubt whether they actually paid any, and I don’t have time to research it, but I do know that in 2013, they actually received a refund!

I want a slice of that $5 billion they are paying to the FTC!

Okay, enough of my ranting for tonight.  Go find something pleasant to read.  I recommend my friend Anne Lawson’s Art blog to bring you a bit of peace to counteract my snark.

Thoughts on Censorship …

I applauded the recent banning of Alex Jones and his InfoWars program by a number of social media outlets, notably Facebook, YouTube, Apple and Spotify.  Twitter has resisted the call by the media and politicians to ban Jones, saying that thus far he is not in violation of their terms of service.  Makes one wonder if they even have ‘terms of service’, doesn’t it? I noted this in a recent post, and a reader replied that he disliked censorship in any form and was perfectly capable of deciding what to see or not to see.  Which made me start pondering … again … sigh.

Alex Jones’ hate-filled lies and rhetoric pose a very real danger.  After his lies about Sandy Hook, families who had lost their children in that tragedy were threatened by people who listened to and believed Jones.  One family has had to move 7 times since 2012 in order to protect their remaining children from harm.  Words have very real consequences.

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, but is it an absolute guarantee to unfettered and irresponsible speech?  I think not.  There are a few restrictions on free speech, as have been noted before, such as yelling “FIRE!!!” in a theater full of people, or “BOMB!!!” on an airplane.  It is the opinion of this writer that those restrictions are not enough.  With the privilege, or ‘right’ to free speech comes responsibility, and if we do not accept the responsibility, then we lose the right.

In a perfect world, it would be lovely to allow everyone complete and unrestricted free speech, but we do not live in a perfect world.  We live in a world where a percentage of the population is under-educated and will believe whomever yells the loudest.  We live in a world where ignorance abounds and there are those who delight in scandal, juicy gossip, and conspiracy theories.  This is the crowd that Alex Jones, Sean Hannity, Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec play to, the audience they can rile and incite to a frenzy.  This is not harmless entertainment, but more than once has led to violence and the threat of violence.

Censorship is a slippery slope.  Where do you draw the line?  Who decides where the line gets drawn?  I can well understand my reader’s concerns about censorship, for it would be all too easy for it to be taken too far.  But simply because something is hard, or is likely to offend some, doesn’t mean you shelve the notion.  To those who would argue against any degree of censorship, my response is that if people would think for themselves, learn to read between the lines, ask questions and be discerning, then we wouldn’t need to censor.  People like Alex Jones would be out doing real jobs to earn their living instead of feeding off the remains of the ignorant, for there would be no market for his brand of hate.

There is an argument that ‘censorship’ can only be applied to government, not private enterprise.  Again, it’s a slippery slope, and there is the potential for censorship by private companies to lead to discrimination against entire groups such as minorities or LGBT people.  This, too, must be carefully considered, for the potential lies just under the surface, waiting to bubble up in a nasty mess of bigotry and racism.

Facebook and the rest who have banned Jones have done so, not out of good conscience, but because the hue and cry against Jones was loud enough to get their attention and they saw visions of dollar signs flying away.  My guess is that once the brouhaha dies down, they will let ol’ Alex back in again, albeit quietly.  It is said that the InfoWars website gets some 10 million views per month.  More than 300 thousand people every day tune in to listen to an ugly man spew lies, filth and hatred.  This, folks, is what is wrong in society.  And because at least some of those 300 thousand people will believe Jones and then decide to take the law into their own gun-filled hands, I’m so sorry, but yes, we do need to censor this type of speech.

It is critical that decisions regarding any form of censorship be made by wise and well-informed people, people without a political agenda, people who are open-minded, fair and honest.  Where do we find such people?  NOT in the halls of government, but rather in think tanks and academia, I should think.  Certainly people with self-interest and the motivation of money, such as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, are not qualified to sit on the panel.

Again, the reason we need censorship is the same reason that we need sensible gun regulations:  responsibility.  When a large portion of this nation refuses to step up to the plate and act as responsible citizens, placing the value of human lives above their own desires, when they refuse to ‘self-police’, then there need to be regulations.  Such regulations must be fair and invoke common sense, but they must exist.  Even some of the most democratic nations in the world have both gun laws and hate speech laws, and so must we.  Your thoughts?

Note to Readers in Response to Comments:

Dear Readers …

So many of you adamantly spoke against any form or degree of censorship, that I decided to respond to your comments collectively, rather than individually.

My goal with this post was to express my opinion and hopefully get some interesting dialog started.  I found, interestingly, that my friends from across the pond agreed that some degree and type of limitation on free speech is both necessary and desirable, while the majority of my U.S. friends are dead set against any limitation on the 1st Amendment.

For those who believe that hate speech laws in other countries are typically used to silence opposition, I respectfully disagree, having over the years become friends with people from the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, and the UK, all of whom agree that the laws in their countries that make Nazi symbols and speech that is intended to incite violence, such as Alex Jones’ are fair and just laws and do not interfere with ordinary and responsible free speech.  This article in The Atlantic, written by a citizen of the Netherlands who now lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, tells the story from across the pond.  Remember that Europe has a much more direct link to the Nazis and Hitler, and are thus, perhaps, more sensitive to that sort of hate speech than we in the U.S.

One reader said ‘goodbye’ to me over this post, which is certainly her prerogative, but does nothing to further civil discourse, but rather shuts down any attempt to see each other’s point of view.

As I tried, but obviously failed, to convey in my post, I do not like censorship either.  BUT … even less, I like that which endangers innocent human lives.  In my opinion, Alex Jones ought to be sitting behind bars for his role in inciting people to make threats against others.  Those who made the threats should be sitting right next to him in that prison cell.  Instead, they all run free while innocent people whose children were killed have to change their phone numbers and addresses to keep their families safe.  This is where I run into an ethical problem with unlimited free speech, and I sincerely believe that the framers of the Constitution, the Founding Fathers as we often refer to them, would be horrified at what is today protected as “free speech”.

I sincerely do appreciate all the comments today, and have spent quite a bit of time pondering them and debating how to best respond to your opinions.  I certainly agree that this is a slippery slope, and not one to be taken lightly, but I must stand by my opinion that there simply MUST be consequences for falsehoods and speech that puts people’s lives and livelihoods in danger, for otherwise we are on a path toward anarchy, and humans have proven themselves incapable of handling unlimited freedom, I think.

Entertainment?

Our friend Hugh, aka the Professor, is a deep thinker, as one would expect of a former professor of philosophy. Today (actually a few days ago) Hugh delves into the effects on society, on humanity, of television and other electronic media. It is something we often don’t think much about, but … we need to … we really need to. Please take a few minutes to read Hugh’s post, for it is, as always, food for thought. Thank you, Hugh, for both this post and permission to share it!

hughcurtler

I have suggested on occasion, sometimes generally sometimes pointedly, that the entertainment industry has been one of the more pernicious influences on the development of such things as intelligence and character that have been seen of late. It’s influence is felt everywhere and since we know that animals, including the human animal, learn from imitation it follows that the ubiquitous television and the social media (of late, especially) have had a tremendous effect on the development of young minds and hearts.

Robert Hutchins once pointed out that the invention of  television held out the greatest of possibilities for humankind. It could be an educational tool like none other and could bring about the elevation of minds and the enlargement of experience among all those touched by it. But we know that has not happened. Not only does public television — which was the last bastion of hope — struggle against…

The Diamond & Silk Show

integrity quoteUntil yesterday, I had never heard of “Diamond and Silk”.  In fact, I had to Google them.  Turns out they are actually two sisters from North Carolina, Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson who are live-stream video bloggers and social media personalities best known for their very vocal support of Donald Trump.  (Obviously not too well “best-known”, since I never heard of them).  Apparently the sisters were registered democrats until mid-2015 when Trump threw his hat into the ring.

“When he announced and we heard everything that he stood for, it was on and poppin’, and we’ve been on the Trump train ever since.”

Oh my head! The main venues of these two appear to be Twitter and Facebook.  Last September, they claimed that Facebook had banned them, was restricting access by viewers to their account.  Data, as reviewed by ThinkProgress and others, show their claims to be false, for their average views have been consistent for the past year.  However, some of our esteemed men & women in Congress believed them without bothering to check the data, and they were hotly defended by the likes of Ted Cruz, Joe Barton and Marsha Blackburn, all republican members of Congress.

Which brings us to yesterday, when Diamond and Silk popped onto my radar because they were testifying, under oath, before Congress at the House Judiciary Committee hearing on alleged filtering practices of social media platforms. Under oath.  But, like the ‘man’ they so admire, Donald Trump, that oath seems to have little, if any, meaning, for they told more falsehoods than truths.   A few snippets of their testimony:

“Facebook censored us for 6 months. Facebook censored our free speech.”

“… subtle and slowly, Facebook used one mechanism at a time to diminish reach by restricting our page so that our 1.2 million followers would not see our content, thus silencing our conservative voices. When we reached out to Facebook for an explanation, they gave us the run around.”

All of which are blatant lies, as proven by the data of views to their Facebook page.  And then came this question:

“Ms. Hardaway, have you ever been paid by the Trump campaign?”

And another lie …

“We have never been paid by the Trump campaign.”

The denial was repeated not just once, but at least four times.  And it is untrue, for there are FEC (Federal Election Commission) records showing various payments to the women during and shortly after the 2016 election.  Those records were provided to the FEC by the Trump campaign itself.

Then later in the proceedings, once they had been apprised of the FEC filing, they did that old standard Trumpian trick of going on the defensive:

“We’re familiar with that particular lie. We see that you do look at fake news. What should’ve happened is you should’ve come to our mouths to see what exactly happened, before a false narrative was put out there.”

Representative Hakeem Jeffries then asked the women if Trump had ever asked them to “monetize” their official Diamond & Silk Facebook platform, to which they responded ‘yes’, but added …

“You, as an African American, are not going to make us feel guilty because we’re going to get out here and take advantage of these platforms and monetize. I don’t see you walking up to a white person and saying ‘Oh you shouldn’t be monetizing that,’ so why are you, as an African American, making it seem like we’re doing something wrong …?”

Now … why is any of this important?  We have a couple of vociferous, obviously attention-seeking women playing a Facebook version of Fox and Friends in their spare time, and they falsely claim that Facebook banned them and that they never received payment for some obscure services from Donald Trump.  Big deal, right?  Well, it is a big deal, but perhaps only because it speaks to the value of “testimony under oath”.  If they are lying, under oath, then who else is?  They did such a bad job of lying that it is nearly a joke, but others are more experienced, smarter at it, and not so easily caught in their lies.  When we cannot trust those who testify at congressional hearings to tell the truth, do the hearings, then, have any value? Does anything that happens in Washington have any value anymore, or is it truly all a circus act?
