Filosofa Is Grrrrrrrrrrrrowling (Again)

I said I wouldn’t comment on the Israel-Hamas situation until I had something meaningful or insightful to say, for there have been more than enough uneducated, frankly stupid opinions bandied about for over a week now.  But one thing crossed my radar tonight that … I simply cannot sit back and not say anything.  It involves the utter asininity of two (probably many more than that) Republicans in Congress who, by their comments, do not have any understanding of the situation.

The two are Representative Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin and Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee.  Ogles has crossed my radar many times before, but this is the first I’ve heard of Tiffany.  The two are sponsoring a bill in the House called the “Guaranteeing Aggressors Zero Admission Act,”  that would prevent the Biden administration from issuing visas to any and all Palestinians.  Why?  Because of Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7th.  Let’s make one thing perfectly clear, Mr. Tiffany and Mr. Ogles:  HAMAS IS NOT PALESTINE!  Hamas is a terrorist organization similar to Daesh (aka ISIS), not a state-sponsored group!  The people living in Gaza are now being threatened with extinction by Benjamin Netanyahu and will need someplace to go!

Innocent women and children are going to die, but these two Bozos don’t care one whit … they would close our borders to them because neither of these ‘men’ have an ounce of humanitarianism in them, nor do they even understand what is happening in the world or why.  Good grief … when will the Republican Party take out the trash and elect some people who actually CARE about something other than their own power/wealth, who actually care about human lives???  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

But that’s not all.  Florida Governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis had to weigh in with even more ignorance …

“If you look at how they [Palestinians] behave, not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti-Semitic. None of them believe in Israel’s right to exist.  You don’t fly people and import them into the United States of America, so we’re going to be very strong on that. And I think about our country, you see these demonstrations supporting Hamas in the United States of America. My view is very simple, if you don’t like this country, if you hate America, you should not come to this country.”

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

Maybe it’s time we start screening applicants for political positions … you know, a Civics test to prove their knowledge and understanding of how our government functions … and perhaps an IQ test to prove whether they have a brain and know how to turn it on.  And maybe it’s past time we start educating the people of this nation so they understand what to look for in a political aspirant.  Every year there are a few more highly unqualified people sitting in Congress and for four years we had an ignorant fool in the Oval Office who had aspirations of becoming a dictator instead of a president.  But still, some people are enthralled by his ignorance, his rhetoric, and his really bad hair.

Trying To Make Sense Of It All — With ‘Toons!

I don’t know about you guys, but there is just SO MUCH happening right now that I feel overwhelmed.  It’s like my brain is bouncing so fast that I cannot even catch it, like a 33 LP being played at 45 RPMs!  Trying to read the in-depth news about what’s happening in the Middle East, the new George Santos charges, Trump’s trials, the efforts of Congress to ensure a government shutdown next month, more schools banning still more books, the continuing efforts of Republicans to take away our voting rights, to take away women’s rights … the list is endless.  And so, to give my brain a bit of a much-needed rest and recharge, I’m sharing my latest collection of political cartoons today that do, in some ways, help us to make sense of the insensible.

Thoughtful Thoughts

Our good friend Roger has been thinking a lot of late, as I suspect most of us have been.  Roger has a way of putting his thoughts to words, then giving us all some things to ponder about.  Thank you, Sir Roger, for your insights and thoughts here today …
