Wild Time at the Obamas’

I was horrified to learn that Trump had actually posted the address of President Obama and his family on Trump’s “Truth Social” spoof of a social media outlet. And then to learn that one of the January 6th rioters showed up in close proximity to the Obama’s home armed with a machete, guns, ammo, and explosives as a result of learning the address from Trump … I was even more horrified. TRUMP belongs in a prison cell for life! He already got a number of people killed on January 6th 2021 … how many more must die before he is taken out of commission??? Our friend Clay Jones of Claytoonz says it best …

CLAYTOONZ

I don’t want to hear any more about the special treatment of Hunter Biden. The president’s son did not receive special treatment from the Justice Department that conducted a five-year investigation into his paying late on his taxes. The person who is receiving special treatment is former president (sic) Trump. Special treatment is being allowed to roam freely on a crappy New Jersey golf course and incite further white nationalist terrorist attacks after attempting a coup and insurrection and currently facing two criminal trials. That’s a pretty huge privilege for someone who talks about how victimized and persecuted he is.

Donald Trump attempted to steal the 2020 presidential election he lost by nearly eight million votes. Before the election, he told the Proud Boys (a white nationalist terrorist group) to “stand back and stand by” during a presidential debate with the eventual winner, Joe Biden. He also encouraged his white…

Foot-Stomping MAD!

It’s been over a year-and-a-half since thousands joined forces to attack the U.S. Capitol in a failed, but nonetheless bloody coup attempt.  The violence on that day, the calls to ‘hang Mike Pence’, still makes me sick to my stomach.  The fact that the attempted coup was approved of by the ‘man’ who called himself ‘president’ still gives me nightmares.  Violence seems to follow Donald Trump wherever he goes, and he seems to incite a great deal of it.  Since that fateful January 6th, violence and calls for violence have increased … even more so in response to a search warrant that was executed to retrieve national security documents Trump illegally stole from us and possibly shared.

Threats of political violence and actual attacks have become a steady reality of American life such that some days I feel we’re living in Somalia instead of the United States.  And the violence isn’t all political … there have been 27 school shootings so far in the first 7 ½ months of 2022!  School children!!!  Yes, 27!  No, you haven’t heard about all of them, for the media only makes a big deal if a relatively large number of children are killed such as was the case in Uvalde, Texas in May, but in total, 83 people, mostly children, have been shot in those 27 school shootings this year.  Can’t blame these directly on politics, but you can sure as hell can blame the politicians who have consistently blocked any form of gun legislation such as banning assault weapons or far more stringent background checks.  So, their answer is to arm all teachers … put even more guns into the hands of people unqualified to have them!

The political violence, however, is out of control and the feeding frenzy isn’t helped by social media, certain mainstream media outlets, and the politicians who keep telling people that the ‘other’ party is the one responsible for all of our woes.

A man named Garrett Ziegler, a former aide to Donald Trump, posted the names and personal information of the FBI Agents who assisted in the execution of the search warrant to retrieve classified documents from the home of Donald Trump.  He even included the social media account of one of the agent’s children!  Within minutes, the families of these agents began receiving death threats.  DEATH THREATS … against the families of law enforcement agents who were merely doing their jobs!

After the brutal murder of George Floyd in 2020, there were numerous Black Lives Matter protest that were, for the most part, peaceful.  What little violence there was, was property damage, not lives threatened.  But people were up in arms because the protests existed.  Yet some of the same people who hated on Black Lives Matter protestors are the very ones cheering those who are threatening civil war, threatening to execute Merrick Garland!  So … apparently they aren’t against violence at all, but are just against Black people, against LGBTQ people, and against anyone who attempts to hold the ‘man’ they have put on a pedestal accountable for his actions.  And speaking of the LGBTQ community …

In late June, a former Marine stepped down as the grand marshal of a July 4th parade in Houston after a deluge of threats that focused on her support of transgender rights. A few weeks later, the gay mayor of an Oklahoma city quit his job after what he described as a series of “threats and attacks bordering on violence.”  A five-year-old girl was evicted from her kindergarten because her parents are gay.  As I reported a week or so ago, a town in Michigan will shut down its library because the library refuses to ban books by LGBTQ authors or about LGBTQ people or issues!

The judge who signed the warrant to search Trump’s home for the missing classified documents is now receiving death threats, as is his family after some on social media called for a “rope around his neck”.  Then Fox “News” exacerbated the situation by posting a photoshopped fake picture of the judge sprawled out with Ghislaine Maxwell giving him a foot massage.  These are the kinds of things that stir the masses and get people KILLED!!!

Political violence, racial violence, school shootings … what the Sam Hell has this nation turned into???  What are we humans turning into???  Have we sold our humanity downriver, traded it for bigotry, hatred and violence???

I don’t have any answers, my friends.  We can … we must … each do our part by controlling our own tempers, by shutting down any conversations where someone is speaking of or calling for a violent act, but that isn’t going to be enough to solve the problem.  We can report those we see on social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook, but that still won’t solve the problem.  I think the answer lies in a direction none of us particularly want to go, but that perhaps we must go, and that is to put some limitations on the 1st Amendment right to free speech.  I don’t like it anymore than you do, but as I’ve long said, every right comes with an accompanying responsibility, and the people of this nation have abused the right without accepting the responsibility.  It is highly irresponsible, criminal even, to call for violence, to call for someone’s ‘execution’ just because you don’t like what he says or does.  We absolutely MUST start holding social media outlets and mainstream news accountable to a higher standard than they currently observe.

And … I’m sure you’re tired of hearing me say this, but we must have some gun control laws that do something more than pay lip service!!!  Ban assault weapons altogether!  Deny a gun to anybody who has even a single incidence of violent behaviour.  Raise the gun ownership age to 25!  Yes, 25!  And make gun ownership a “one strike, you’re out” thing.  We have to do this!!!  And we must make the punishment for any violent act so harsh that it actually serves as a deterrent!  Every person who was in the Capitol on January 6th without authorization should automatically be serving a 5-year prison sentence.  Those who had weapons or harmed anyone should be in prison for 20 years, no exceptions.  If the price of violence is high enough, people will think before they mouth off or worse yet, grab their guns and go on a shooting spree!

I’ve said it enough times, but I’ll keep on saying it … VIOLENCE IS NEVER THE ANSWER!!!  We are truly, and this is not hyperbole, turning into a third-world nation where random shootings are becoming the norm, where even children are targets, and where nobody is quite safe anywhere anymore.  Write to your Senators and Representatives and tell them that THEY have the power to make changes and they damn well better do it NOW!!!  I really don’t know what more we can do, but we better start doing something.

Republicans Must Not Be Allowed to Retake the House

Mid-term elections are just fifteen months away … or, to phrase it another way, mid-term elections are fifteen months away, approximately 450 days, and a lot can happen in fifteen months.  In all my history as a political animal, I’ve never put a lot of importance on the “party”, but more on the individual.  Today, though, that has all changed as we are in the age of uber-partisanship and the values of the two parties are miles apart.  From where I stand, the Republican Party shoots itself in the foot a little more every day, but I also understand that not everyone shares my viewpoint.  However, I think that in the midterms in some 450 days, it will be the end of this nation as we know it if the Republican Party manages to capture a majority in both chambers of Congress.  And folks … it could happen.  Every day they lie through their teeth to voters who may not be inclined to seek the truth, but find it easier to believe what they are told by the likes of Kevin McCarthy, Louie Gohmert, Mitch McConnell and others who long ago sold their consciences.

Our friend TokyoSand over at Political Charge has written a post showing just one reason that the Republicans cannot be allowed to re-take majority roles in Congress.  I strongly urge you to read her post and give this some thought …

Republicans Must Not Be Allowed to Retake the House

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: The Republicans don’t deserve to govern.

Last night, reports surfaced that Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was at an event, raising money for the midterms, where he riled up the crowd by saying he wanted them to watch Nancy Pelosi hand him the Speaker’s gavel after they won the midterms. He followed up by saying, “It will be hard not to hit her with it.”

Read that again.

The top Republican in the House chose to casually suggest violence against the female Speaker of the House because he knew that’s what his supporters and voters want to hear. This, after Trump supporters specifically sought out Pelosi during the January 6th insurrection.

First Amendment Run Amok

Rick Wiles is an American non-denominational senior pastor at Flowing Streams Church in Vero Beach, FL, radio host and pundit. He is the founder of TruNews, a website known for promoting racist and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

Mr. Wiles came onto my radar yesterday when I saw this …Wiles-tweetHe went on to say …

“If they take him [Trump] out, there’s gonna be violence in America. That’s all there is to it. However he leaves, there’s gonna be violence in America. I believe there are people in this country, veterans, there are cowboys, mountain men, I mean guys that know how to fight, and they’re going to make a decision that people who did this to Donald Trump are not gonna get away with it. And they’re gonna hunt them down. The Trump supporters are going to hunt them down. It’s going to happen, and this country is going to be plunged into darkness and they brought it upon themselves because they won’t back off.”

Yes, before you beat me to the punch, I know this is just ignorance and hatred talking, I know that Mr. Wiles is but a gnat on the posterior of humanity.  But … I propose that his speech is classified as hate speech and as incitement to violence and must be stopped.

I’ve said this at least a thousand times before on this blog … ‘Rights’ come with responsibilities.  Rights are not unconditional.  Those who cannot use their rights judiciously, who continually abuse them, who cause harm to others by invoking their own rights, must lose those rights.  I’ve spouted endlessly about the Second Amendment, how it does not give the right to unfettered and unconditional gun ownership, nor the right to own an unlimited number of guns with the capability of killing hundreds within minutes.  I don’t think the gun advocates or NRA supporters have heard me, but … know that someday, somehow, somebody will figure out how to shut the gun lobby down and inject common sense into the interpretation of the amendment.

The First Amendment is no different.  Contrary to popular belief, it does not give people the unlimited right to say whatever pops into their mind, in any venue, and at any time.  Mr. Wiles is a public figure, and as such, he has even more responsibility than the rest of us.  He has a history of racism and anti-Semitism.  He frequently referred to President Obama as a “demon from hell”.  He has asserted that the effects of Hurricane Harvey on the city of Houston, Texas resulted from Houston’s LGBT community; has described Judaism and Islam as “the Antichrist”; has called Central American immigrants a “‘brown invasion'” being used by God to punish American whites because of abortion; has claimed that the Las Vegas massacre was conducted by government death squads; has asserted that Antonin Scalia was murdered; and, in July 2018, predicted an imminent coup that would result in the nationally televised decapitation of the Trump family on the White House lawn.

There are those who would say all of the above fall under the protections of the First Amendment right to free speech.  I disagree.  Remember when Alex Jones claimed that the Sandy Hook school shooting was all a hoax and that the grieving parents were paid actors?  Some parents are still being threatened by the fools who bought into his theory. Remember when the same Alex Jones bought into the theory that Hillary Clinton and John Podesta were dealing in human trafficking and child sex slavery in the basement of a local pizzeria?  Yes, folks, words have consequences.

Do you seriously believe that the framers of the Constitution would endorse or support a man calling for the death of members of a political party solely because that party followed the mandates of the Constitution?

I think we have long passed the point where we need to codify the limitations on certain ‘rights’, starting with both the First and Second Amendments.  For far too long, it has been open season … people claiming that they have a right to say whatever they wish, whenever and wherever, and damn the consequences.  Mr. Wiles presents a clear and present danger to all of us who do not sing the praises of the Oaf in the Oval, and this is not … I repeat … THIS IS NOT the idea upon which this nation was founded.  The right to free speech was intended to provide people the ability to engage in political discourse, to state opposing viewpoints without fear of repercussions.  It was never ever intended to be a tool given to those who would incite violence for any reason.  This nation was once a hell of a lot better than it is today.  Think about it.

Back on the Radar — Roger Stone

You guys remember a little over a year ago, July 21, 2016, to be exact, when I awarded my Idiot of the Week award to Roger Stone and his ex-wife, Ann?  Believe it or not, that simple little piece has been my most wide-read ever and is still garnering views even today, more than a year later!  To date it has had 2,579 views, the majority of which have occurred this year, rather than last.  Why?  Because he keeps doing idiotic things, keeps his name in the news, and when I Googled ‘Roger Stone’ yesterday, mine was the 6th entry after the usual ‘top news’ and ‘Twitter’ entries.  But, I am not here today to talk about the popularity of that single post, but rather to expound on the continual idiocy of the subject of said post.

Knowing full well what an idiot the man is, I typically just ‘walk on by’ when I see his name in the news.  But today, I saw this headline, or variations thereof, no less than three times, so with a decidedly put-upon sigh, I clicked.

Trump adviser Roger Stone warns any politician who votes to impeach him would ‘endanger their own life’

“Try to impeach him. Just try it,” Stone said. “You will have a spasm of violence in this country, an insurrection like you’ve never seen. Both sides are heavily armed, my friend, This is not 1974. People will not stand for impeachment. A politician that votes for it would be endangering their own life.”

You will remember that just before the Republican National Convention last year, when some feared that establishment party officials might seek to steer delegates away from Trump, Stone threatened to reveal where delegates who flipped on Trump were staying during the convention. Just the sort we need in these already troubled times, eh? Never mind that two recent polls show some 40%-43% of Americans are now in favour of impeachment.

But that isn’t all our ol’ idiot has been up to in the past week.

In response to Arizona Senator John McCain’s criticism of Trump for pardoning former Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Friday, Stone tweeted …

“Karma about to get you, @SenJohnMcCain and you will burn in hell for all eternity”

Out of curiosity, I visited Stone’s website, The Stone Zone, and was somewhat surprised to see that a large number of the headlines on his front page were in favour of legalizing marijuana. Now, I am neither for nor against that issue … I simply don’t care, as I don’t use the stuff and see much more important issues to argue for.  I just thought it was interesting that this seems to be his pet peeve, and he even claims that he believes he almost has Trump talked into it.  Such maturity, yes?  And in the same vein, during a recent interview, he was asked what he thought Trump’s dumbest move since taking office has been … his response?  “Letting Sessions and Kelly and Chris Christie prattle on and on about gearing up a new war on drugs. Stupidest idea I’ve ever heard.”  I begin to wonder if there may be a reason for his idiocy?  Perhaps a bit too much of the wacky weed in his younger days?

And finally, Stone forwarded an email from former Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli that called for the ouster of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.  Now, I am no fan of McConnell and have my own bones to pick with him, but for reasons that are 180° from the reasons Cuccinelli & Stone state:

“Senator Mitch McConnell’s failed leadership is killing President Trump’s conservative agenda and there is no sign this will change. It’s time for Senate Republicans to elect a new leader who will fight to save our country! The president is right to question Mitch McConnell’s leadership because he is responsible for electing all of the liberal Republicans who are how blocking the president’s agenda.”

Huh??? Liberal Republicans?  Where … where … ???

Stone’s role in Trump’s campaign and potential contacts with Russia have come under scrutiny. The Senate Intelligence Committee has asked Stone to preserve all documents related to any Russian contacts. The Committee Vice Chair, Senator Mark Warner, called on Stone to testify before the committee, saying he “hit the trifecta” of shady dealings with Russia. Paul Manafort and Stone were business partners throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and in a June interview with CNN Money, Stone said that Trump should fire both Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein, deputy attorney general.

Paul Manafort & Roger Stone – 1985

If it were possible, I would award Mr. Roger Stone a 2nd Idiot of the Week award, but it is against the rules. Joking aside, though, the danger in this man’s brazen trash talk is that he is, though not on the White House payroll, a close advisor and confidant of Trump’s.  And he is a public figure with a venue to reach large groups of people who listen to him and to what I consider his calls for violence, his incitement to take up arms against those who would like to see Trump removed from office.
