Dear Santa,
I almost didn’t write to you this year, for there is nothing I need or want. Well, a new can opener, but I’ve asked the girls to get me that, so no need for you to worry about it. But then, I started thinking and there are some things I would like to ask of you this Christmas, though not only for myself, but for … many, if not all of the people on this Planet Earth.
You see, we have lost sight of some things, no longer seem to remember what’s really important, as that thing called ‘money’ has infiltrated our minds and skewed our values. It may be beyond your ability, but here is my ‘wishlist’ for this Christmas …
- Please plant a seed of kindness into the hearts of those who have more than they need, so that they will share their wealth with those who are struggling just to survive. If only they would share a portion of their wealth, there would be no more homeless people or people going to bed hungry.
- Please plant a seed of compassion into the minds of those who seem to believe that one skin colour, religion, gender, or other superficial criteria is somehow superior to others. Bigotry is running rampant around the globe and people are dying every day as a result.
- Please, if you will, find homes for all the homeless animals who only want to be loved – nothing more.
- Please, Santa, if it’s in your power, find a way to bring peace and understanding to the leaders of nations like Israel, Russia, and China whose wars are causing death and destruction every minute of every day.
- Please take the fossil fuels that remain in the ground here on Earth back to the North Pole with you, then find a way to send them to some faraway galaxy. Fossil fuels are destroying the planet for most all life forms, but we humans just cannot seem to understand, so … just take them away, please. We will find other ways to heat our homes and meet our other energy needs.
- Please, Santa, when you drop down a chimney into a home with a gun or guns, remove and destroy those implements of death. Let everyone awaken on Christmas morn to find that they no longer have the means to take take lives with a simple pull of a trigger.
- Please, if you bring nothing else in your sleigh this year, bring a sapling for every person on earth to plant … we need all the trees we can get after the devastation caused by wildfires and human destruction over the last decade.
- Please bring love, care, food and shelter to everyone who is currently deprived of any of those things. Nothing else matters much if you don’t have those basics.
- And one last request, Santa. Please bring consciences to every politician in every nation on the planet … so many of them seem to have sold theirs and are desperately in need of one in these trying times.
I realize, Santa, that I have asked for a lot, most of which may be beyond your ability to provide, but … all of this matters more, so much more than toys, books, electronics or fancy clothing. We’ll be leaving you some special treats this Christmas Eve, as Miss Goose has become a master cookie-baker of late! Have a safe journey and thank you for your consideration of my list.
Sincerely,
Filosofa
