Yes, We DO Care!!! We MUST Care!!!

At a circus in Michigan last Saturday, the head clown was the former guy, aka Donald Trump, and one of the minion clowns was Marge Greene, well known for her conspiracy theories and hate speech.  Now, I don’t generally pay attention to things that come out of Greene’s mouth, for to the best of my knowledge, she has never uttered a true or sensible statement yet.  However, something she said really galled me …

“We have so many problems here at home, I cannot even think about sending our money over to fund a proxy war with Russia. Zelensky doesn’t run the United States government. He is not our president, but for some reason Joe Biden bends over every single time. … The American people don’t care about that war over there.”

The American people don’t care about that war over there???  Oh yes … oh yes, we DO CARE!!!  What angers me most about this is the utter arrogance, the idea that somehow people in the U.S. must be above what happens in the rest of the world.  This is complete and total bullshit!  Somebody needs to inform Ms. Greene that she does NOT speak for “the American people”!  People, innocent people – grandparents, children, mothers and fathers — are being murdered in Ukraine by a madman who dreams of leading an empire and will step on anyone and everyone to realize his dreams.  How could we not care???

Somebody should remind Ms. Greene that we all share the same planet … that what affects one, affects all.  If Putin conquers Ukraine as he hopes, he will not stop there, but will move on to his next conquest, possibly Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania – all members of NATO. Putin has made no secret of the fact that he hopes to rebuild a Soviet-style empire. It is this sort of attempted world domination that led to WWII and could easily lead to WWIII.  The people in Ukraine are no different than the people in Marge’s own district in Georgia … just people trying to take care of their families and live in peace.  I wonder how Marge would feel if Mexico invaded Georgia and bombed homes, public buildings and hospitals, killing thousands?

I believe that all people, regardless of skin colour, where they live, ancestry, religious beliefs, gender, gender identity or any other distinctions are valuable.  The people in Ukraine who go to bed at night not knowing if they will wake in the morning, who send their children to school not knowing if the school will still be standing by afternoon, are just as human, just as valuable as any citizen of the United States or Russia or the United Kingdom or any other country.  It is one thing to take pride in your homeland … most everyone, regardless of where their homeland is, does.  But that does not mean that any one group of people are somehow superior to others.  This notion of “us vs them” is exactly why we cannot manage world peace.  It is arrogant and ignorant, and when people in positions of power promote the idea of nationalism over humanity, it is dangerous.

The time for isolationism, for extreme nationalism, passed when the age of technology shrunk the world, but apparently Ms. Greene (and others like her) have not been informed that we’re all in this together.  Her attitude would make us a pariah in the global community, would cost us any respect our allies may still have for us, and would make our position in the world far more dangerous for us all.  Somebody please vote the selfish, arrogant Ms. Greene OUT of Congress … send her back to her gym!

Snarky Snippets, Volume MMCMLXXX

Some days every bit of ‘news’ I read raises my hackles.  Especially these days when one actor slapping another at the Academy Awards is the major news story of the day … never mind that the Russians are bombing the hell out of Ukraine, people are fleeing and people are dying.  Never mind that we have a major divide in this nation that isn’t going to resolve itself any time soon and that is likely to lead to major chaos during the mid-term elections in November.  Never mind that schools are depriving children of an education and states are depriving women of their right to healthcare.  Never mind that the majority of states are engaging in unique ways to take away our right to vote, while Congress sits on their patooties whistling Dixie!  No … let’s just worry about a couple of actors acting like juveniles!  Grrrrrrrrrrr.  So, you get the idea … today is a day for snarky snippets!  But, in the interest of preserving your sanity, I confined myself to only two snippets this morning!

Send her back to Georgia!!!

There are lots … and I DO mean lots … or people in Congress who I think demean the entire legislative branch of government, from Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, Matt Gaetz and on down the line.  But the worst of the worst seems to be that blonde bimbo, Margie Greene, aka Marjorie Taylor Greene.  I refuse to waste the time and energy to type her full name every time!  The latest?

After the press decided to have a field day with President Biden’s final thoughts at his speech in Warsaw, Poland, on Saturday, March 26th, broadly and erroneously hinting that the president was calling for a potential regime change in Russia from without, Ms. Greene said the following …

“The most needed regime change right now is the one in the United States for ruining our country.”

Greene asserts that President Biden is “ruining our country,” and that removing him is thus more urgent than responding to Putin’s attacks on Ukraine, but then, she’s also made it clear that she’s sick of hearing about Ukraine at all and thinks that “real Americans” don’t care about Ukraine and are focused only on inflation and gas prices.  Well, nobody ever accused her of having a brain, did they?  I beg the good people of Georgia to please, please do not send Ms. Greene back to Congress in November!  Keep her in Georgia!!!

Lock him up!!! (And throw away the key!)

Are we finally about to see some meaningful action over the January 6th attempt to overthrow the government by Trump & associates?  Well … maybe.  Federal Judge David O. Carter of the Central District of California ruled yesterday that former President Donald J. Trump and a lawyer, John Eastman, who had advised him on how to overturn the 2020 election “most likely” had committed felonies, including obstructing the work of Congress and conspiring to defraud the United States.

It’s the “most likely” part that I don’t like … there is no “most likely” … it is a fact known by anyone who can read and think!  Said the Judge …

“The illegality of the plan was obvious. Our nation was founded on the peaceful transition of power, epitomized by George Washington laying down his sword to make way for democratic elections. Ignoring this history, President Trump vigorously campaigned for the vice president to single-handedly determine the results of the 2020 election.”

Trump has not been charged with any crime yet, and the judge’s ruling has no immediate, practical legal effect on him. But it essentially ratified the committee’s argument that Mr. Trump’s efforts to block Congress from certifying President Biden’s Electoral College victory and could well rise to the level of a criminal conspiracy.  Could???  Damn well better!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the House committee investigating the events of and leading up to January 6th voted 9-0 on Monday night to recommend criminal contempt of Congress charges against two allies of Trump — Peter Navarro, a former White House adviser, and Dan Scavino Jr., a former deputy chief of staff — for their participation in efforts to overturn the 2020 election and their subsequent refusal to comply with the panel’s subpoenas.  The matter now moves to the Rules Committee, then the full House. If it passes there, the Justice Department will decide whether to charge the men. A contempt of Congress charge carries a penalty of up to a year in jail.  One year???  That’s the maximum they might get for plotting to overthrow the government and hand the nation over to a lunatic dictator???  🤦

Are We All Gullible?

While conspiracy theories have always been around, they have seemingly run rampant of late, the one with the most adherents being the Big Lie that the election was “stolen” from the former guy.  And remember Margie Greene’s belief in the QAnon theory that it was Russian space lasers or some such nonsense that started the 2020 California wildfires?  Now, I and most of the people reading this blog are too intelligent to fall for these off-the-wall conspiracy theories, right?  Let’s find out!  The Washington Post has a short (just 6 multiple choice questions), fun quiz to see just how savvy we are about facts vs conspiracy theories.  I took this quiz … it really is short and only took less than 5 minutes … and I did miss one!  😱

Check it out here and let me know how you did … and see if you can guess which one I missed!

Snarky Snippets Volume 100+

Some days my head simply spins on its axis (my neck) trying to keep up with everything happening in the nation, the world today.  There are days that I can pick a topic, focus, and write a relatively coherent post on a single topic.  Other days, however, I simply cannot gain that level of focus that is requisite, so instead I toss out a few snippets, usually snarky ones.  Today is such a day.  The week is topsy-turvy and my mind is spinning at somewhere around 136 rpm (revolutions per minute).  Thus, today I give you another episode of Snarky Snippets …

Will Congress find their conscience, or will millions be living on the streets soon?

The current eviction moratorium, that prohibits landlords from evicting tenants who have fallen behind on their rent, is set to expire tomorrow.  This means, in a nutshell, that millions of people could be without a home soon … millions, not hundreds, not thousands, but millions, the majority of them children.  It was hoped that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) would extend the moratorium, given the new surge in cases due to the Delta variant (and the anti-vaxxers), but last month, when the Supreme Court upheld the current moratorium, they also made it clear that it could not be extended again except by an act of Congress.

President Biden called on Congress to act “without delay” to extend the eviction moratorium. Biden’s request prompted House and Senate Democrats to begin exploring whether they could rally enough votes to approve the new protections for renters. It remains unclear if Congress has the time and support to act ahead of the current July 31st deadline.

I have very little doubt that the members of the House of Representatives will rally and manage to vote ‘yea’ on a hastily prepared bill that will keep millions of people sheltered.  However, once such a bill reaches the Senate, possibly even sometime today, it will almost certainly go into the “Dead Bills” bin along with the For the People Act and probably hundreds of other pieces of legislation that the senate Republicans, along with Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are holding up in a game of roulette.  Let’s hope I’m wrong, for with the current heat wave that is affecting some 20 states at the moment, this is no time to be living on the streets.

The Four Stooges … or the Four Gs

Yesterday, Representatives Matt Gaetz (the sex trafficker), Margie Greene (QAnon member in good standing), Paul Gosar (white supremacist extraordinaire), and Louie Gohmert (the idiot in too many ways to count), went to the D.C. Department of Corrections (where they should all be standing on the other side) in an attempt to visit some of the prisoners who have been arrested in connection with their role in attacking Congress and the Capitol on January 6th.  They were turned away by jail officials.  The Four Gs claimed they were there to inspect the treatment of suspects.  Funny, isn’t it, that at least tens of thousands pass through the prison system each year, yet these three never came to check on those people.

Now, I may have a suspicious mind, but given that the four were accompanied by cameras from right-wing news organizations, I have a sneaking hunch that this was intended as a photo op, as an excuse to rile the masses yet again, as they surely knew they couldn’t just waltz in and visit with the prisoners of their choice.

When told that they were “obstructing entrance into this facility,” Gohmert responded …

“We’re the people that vote on whether or not to fund you, at what level, and we’re trespassing?”

WHOA … can we say ‘abuse of power’ or throwing one’s weight around?  For the record, Congress has ZERO influence, for the D.C. Detention Center is not a federal facility and is fully funded by Washington, D.C. taxpayers.

The action at the jail was the group’s second this week, after they barged into the Justice Department on Tuesday trying to ask questions about the detention of January 6th suspects awaiting trial and whether any were being held in solitary confinement. Gosar called them “political prisoners” who are being “persecuted” and unjustly punished.  Oh wait … pobrecitos … were they not the ones dressed like maniacal cavemen carrying clubs, bear spray, and other weapons on that fateful day?  Were they not the ones that scaled the outer walls of the Capitol, beat police officers, broke windows to gain access, and caused millions of dollars in damage to OUR property?  Excuse me, perhaps I’m thinking of a different bunch of bozos.

Gohmert seemed to be the spokesperson for the bunch and said …

“The supervisor came down and was standing right here and turned her back on me. The other one said she won’t talk anymore and that we’re trespassers. We’re in totalitarian, Marxist territory here. This is the way third-world people get treated.”

Get a life, Louie!!!

And of course, ol’ Margie also feigned indignance …

“We suspect there is a two-tier justice system in the United States, for Trump supporters that are charged for Jan. 6 and catch-and-release for BLM rioters.”

Yeah, that’s right, Margie … when a cop pulls a person over, the first question out of his mouth is to ask whether the person is a trumpeter or not … if he is, then he is carted off to the Gulag, never to be seen or heard from again.  Sheesh, but how did we manage to get so many dumbasses in Congress this time ‘round???  And four of ‘em whose surname starts with ‘G’.  One media outlet, The Hill, referred to them as the ‘seditious four’ … sounds about right to me.

A dangerous thing to say

One of the Four G’s, Margie Greene, made a very dangerous statement when speaking to the Alabama Federation of Republican Women last week.  First, she told the group that President Biden “is going to be sending one of his police state friends to your door,” referring to the volunteers the president has mentioned sending to rural areas to help people better understand and have access to the vaccination.  But the worst part was when she told them …

“We all love our Second Amendment rights, and we don’t like the federal government coming on our property to tell us what to do. You have HIPAA rights and you do not have to tell your medical information and you can tell them to get off your front porch and get off your front lawn.”

WHOA NELLIE!  This is a lawmaker, a member of Congress, advising people to get their guns out … this is incitement to violence, plain and simple!  In my book, that statement alone is grounds for her immediate expulsion from Congress.  Mr. Kevin McCarthy damn well better take action … it is long past due.

A Damn Shame

Margie Greene is among the dumbest people in Congress and, in the grand scheme of things, is largely irrelevant since she sits on no congressional committees and doesn’t even show up for work most days, now that she and sex trafficker Matt Gaetz are taking their two-person show on the road.

Approximately 732,000 people live in Margie’s district in Georgia, most of whom are not vaccinated against COVID.  In fact, her district ranks the 8th lowest vaccination rate in the nation, out of 435 districts nationwide.  And sadly, Margie is largely responsible for this.  She with her wild QAnon theories and denial of mask mandates, social distancing, and vaccines, has convinced the people in her district that the only thing they need to do to stay safe is … wait for it … lose weight.  Yep, folks, Margie used to run a gym, so she knows these things. 🙄

I wonder if the people in her district are starting to doubt Margie … now that a five-year-old child there has died of the coronavirus?  Yes, you heard me right … a little boy just five years old.  His father’s Facebook page is heartbreaking …

“My little buddy. My best friend. My helper.”

A few days ago, Greene’s Twitter account was temporarily locked after she tweeted two claims about coronavirus vaccines that weren’t true. In one, she said that vaccines and masks shouldn’t be mandated but, instead, that the government should “help people protect their health by defeating obesity, which will protect them from covid complications & death, and many other health problems.” In the other, she said that “vaccines should not be forced on our military for a virus that is not dangerous for non-obese people and those under 65,” then claimed that there were thousands of “vax related deaths.”  I wonder where Margie got her medical degree???

Earlier this week at a news conference, Greene was asked by a reporter …

“Do you feel any responsibility for keeping people in Georgia safe? There are children, skinny people who have died of the coronavirus. Do you feel any responsibility to the people of Georgia?”

Her response?  She laughed.  I wonder how the parents of that five-year-old feel, hearing their elected representative laughing about the death of their son?  She replied to the reporter …

“You crack me up. You know what? I think people’s responsibility is their own.”

Reminds me of a time when the former guy was asked about his bungling of the pandemic and he said, “No, I don’t take responsibility at all.”  More than 625,000 people have died of the virus in the U.S., including one little boy only five years old, and nobody takes responsibility at all.  Isn’t that a damn shame?

We Have Met The Enemy …

Numerous things are weighing on my mind today and as I was scrolling through the latest news today, that old Pogo saying came to mind …

Georgians love ‘batshit crazy’

I foolishly believed that people, even republicans, still had some values, some sense of right and wrong, but that notion was dispelled this morning when I read that despite every horrible thing Margie Greene has done, the voters in her party still think she is great.

At the Georgia Republican Party convention this weekend, many attendees were seen wearing “We love Marjorie” pins and when asked about her appeal, more than 20 party activists and officials mentioned her disregard for political correctness and approach to politics as a “Washington outsider.” Many said they appreciate her willingness to say what she believes, even if it is inaccurate or dangerous — the same traits they admired in the former guy.

Some of the comments …

“If that were me up there, I’d be doing the same thing. Though she probably does it with more tact.”

“She’s very dynamic, very personable. She’s someone who’s different from the typical politician.”

“When you go to her district and talk to people about her, they’re going to tell you, ‘we like the job she’s doing.’”

My advice is to stay out of Georgia … there’s something toxic in the air there!

Da judge is WRONG!!!

I don’t typically purport to have greater intelligence or better knowledge than judges, but in this case I do.  On Friday night, U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez of the Southern District of California overturned California’s longtime ban on assault weapons, saying the state’s law was unconstitutional and that prohibiting such firearms for decades was “a failed experiment.”

The judge not only said that sections of the state ban in place since 1989 regarding military-style rifles violate the Second Amendment, but he compared weapons such as the AR-15 to a Swiss army knife, saying …

“Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment.”

BULLSHIT!!!!  Now tell me, which of these two would you rather confront?

California Attorney General Rob Bonta plans to file an appeal on behalf of the State of California.  I agree with Bonta when he says …

“Today’s decision is fundamentally flawed. There is no sound basis in law, fact, or common sense for equating assault rifles with Swiss Army knives — especially on Gun Violence Awareness Day and after the recent shootings in our own California communities.”

Let us hope that the appellate court has better sense than Judge Benitez!!!

The fox guarding the henhouse

You remember Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, right?  He’s the one who attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election by filing lawsuits against four states – Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – claiming that pandemic-era changes to election procedures in those states violated federal law and asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block the states from voting in the Electoral College.  He wanted the Court to simply throw out the votes of every person in those states!  His efforts failed, for even then-U.S. Attorney General William Barr, another Trump toadie, stated that there was no evidence whatsoever of the voter fraud Paxton and other blind fools were claiming.

At any rate, Paxton is back in the news and in my book should be investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice and charged with treason.  Why?  On Friday Paxton appeared on Steve Bannon’s program and said that if he hadn’t blocked a large number of postal votes in 2020, President Biden would have won in the state of Texas!  He openly admits to rigging the election!!!

“If we’d lost Harris County—Trump won by 620,000 votes in Texas. Harris County mail-in ballots that they wanted to send out were 2.5 million, those were all illegal and we were able to stop every one of them. Had we not done that, we would have been in the very same situation—we would’ve been on Election Day, I was watching on election night and I knew, when I saw what was happening in these other states, that that would’ve been Texas. We would’ve been in the same boat. We would’ve been one of those battleground states that they were counting votes in Harris County for three days and Donald Trump would’ve lost the election.”

NEWSFLASH … Donald Trump DID lose the election, and based on Paxton’s words, he lost by far more than we are told!  The people of Texas ought to be gunning for this asshole, ought to be demanding his immediate resignation!

Snarky Sunday Snippets

I look at the news these days, and there are no headlines screaming at me, no nefarious tweets by the former guy that send me straight into fight mode, but still … it takes only about 5 minutes of trolling the news to set my teeth on edge.  Too many things just aren’t right in this country.  And so … sigh … it’s time for me to share a few snarky snippets from the aged, ancient mind.

WHY NOT???

At least five members of the United States military have been charged for participating in the attack on the Capitol on January 6th, and yet not a single one has been relieved of their duty in the military.  In other words … to put it quite bluntly … the very people who attempted to overthrow our government are still the ones we are relying on to defend us against all enemies, foreign and domestic.  These five ARE the enemy domestic, for Pete’s Sake!!!

One of the five is Major Christopher Warnagiris, a Marine Corps officer who was arrested last week and accused of leading rioters in through the east doors of the Capitol Rotunda. He has been charged with five counts, including assaulting and obstructing police during a civil disorder and obstructing an official proceeding of Congress.  Military officials say they are waiting for the legal proceedings by the Department of Justice before making any ‘administrative decisions.’  BULLSHIT.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my life in the hands of a guy who assaulted a police officer and was willing to overthrow the government for personal gain just a few short months ago!  A guy who knowingly attacked a federal building, attempted to throw out my vote and yours, and had accepted that there was a noose hung outside the building waiting for the vice president of the country!

There used to be such a thing called a ‘court martial’ for people like Warnagiris and the other four members of the military who threw their loyalty out the window on January 6th.

And speaking of January 6th

If a bomb goes off somewhere and I was there just 30 minutes earlier, I fully expect to be questioned about why I was there, what I saw, etc.  If I refuse, that would be a sure sign that I had something to do with that bomb, that I at least knew of it or saw something suspicious, and I would be taken ‘downtown for questioning’.  Rightly so.  Refusal to answer questions is a sure sign of some level of guilt.  So … when certain Republican members of Congress, most notably for the purpose of this conversation, Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy, want to quash an investigation into the events of January 6th, warning bells immediately start going off in my head!

What did they do?  What did they know?  Who did they speak to ahead of the attack?  How were they involved?  Did they encourage or incite the horrific attack on Congress and the Capitol?  Surely they have something to hide, else they would not be working so fast and furiously to bury any investigation.  They remind me of a two-year-old holding the forbidden cookies behind his back, saying “Wh-wha-what c-c-cookies???”

Funny, too, that when the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked in 2012, the Republicans in Congress were the first to demand an investigation, the first to point the fingers at then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (who, it was proven multiple times, was not at fault), but now, an attack on home soil, and they are … “Meh, it was nuthin’.”  The word ‘HYPOCRITE’ comes to mind often when I hear the word ‘Republican’, or the names of Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, Matt Gaetz, Margie Green, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Lauren Boebert, Josh Hawley and others.  Gee, I wonder why.  Yes, they are all a lot of hypocrites and we must keep the pressure on to investigate the events and conversations that led up to the violent attacks on Congress that black, bleak day.  Our friend Keith has written to a few Republican Senators and posted his letter on his blog with an invitation for any who wish to alter and use it to do so freely.    I encourage you to make your voices heard on this critical issue.  If there is no price to pay for those who instigated or played a role in the insurrection, it is almost guaranteed to happen again.

Stupid just keeps on getting stupider

Ol’ Marge Greene, the freshman representative from Georgia who is a QAnon supporter, has said & done so many really stupid things that all her committee assignments were taken from her within a month of her taking her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Her latest … really ought to be grounds for expulsion from Congress.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in an abundance of caution, made the decision to continue the mask mandate on the House floor.  It does not mean that lawmakers must wear a mask in their respective offices, or in the supermarket, only on the floor of the House of Representatives, and her reason is that some of the lawmakers are not yet fully vaccinated.  Makes sense, yes?  But … here’s what ol’ Marge had to say about it …

“This woman [Pelosi] is mentally ill. You know, we can look back in a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star, and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens — so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany and this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about.”

Say WHAT???  There is absolutely no comparison between a mask mandate for the safety of all, and the Holocaust!  It’s an abomination to even make such a statement!  Please, Congress, expel this … person … from the halls of your noble edifice!  Send her back to Georgia and let her resume her life as a fitness instructor whereby she won’t be subjected to wearing a mask!  She is not lawmaker material, doesn’t even appear to have a functional brain!

The Week’s Best Cartoons 5/15

As always, our friend TokyoSand has compiled the best editorial/political cartoons from the past week.  Naturally, a great number focus on the Republicans ousting of Representative Liz Cheney from her leadership role in the GOP, but there were other issues as well, such as the renewed fighting between Israel and Palestine, voter suppression by the Republicans, and more.  Thank you so much, TS, for finding the best of the lot for us!  Here are just a few samples, but be sure to check out the full post!

They Walk Among Us …

Some days I wake up and wonder if I dreamed all the lunacy that is part of the United States today.  And then I pick up my phone, check the news, and … nope, not a dream, just a horrible reality.  And then I wish I could just stay in bed, not ever get up again.  I have a feeling that the founders of this nation would be deeply ashamed of some of the people who inhabit it today.  More than a few times I’ve thought perhaps we would have been better off to remain under British rule, for obviously we are not capable of self-governance today.  Just a few examples …

Unfit

Marge Green, aka Marjorie Taylor Greene, ought to be sent back home to Georgia until she can learn to act as an adult.  She seems to believe that the way to get her point across is to run after people shrieking like a banshee.  I mentioned once before that back in 2019, before she was erroneously elected to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, she ran after young David Hogg, a teen survivor of the Parkland school shootings, screaming questions at him and ultimately calling him a coward.  Hogg, more mature than Greene, kept walking and did not acknowledge her harassment, later saying “I was told growing up, it’s just better not to respond to bullies and just walk away.”  Which proves that at 19, he was more mature than Ms. Greene is today at 46.

The latest is that yesterday, Ms. Greene did the exact same thing to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, familiarly known as AOC.  Representative Ocasio-Cortez left the committee chamber slightly ahead of Greene, and Greene began shouting at her, yelling her name, and when AOC did not slow down or turn around, Greene became belligerent, speeding up and screeching that AOC was supporting terrorists (she specified that she was referring to Black Lives Matter), and screaming …

“You don’t care about the American people. Why do you support terrorists and antifa?”

Members of Congress are not going to always agree, they will have differences of opinion, and we always hope they will find common ground for compromise.  But this behaviour on the part of Marge Greene is simply unacceptable.  This is not professional, it is disrespectful, rude, and borders on criminal harassment.  I read an article last night that called Ms. Greene’s behaviour “extreme anti-leftist”.  No, it is not … it is juvenile, it is disrespectful, it is immature and the sign of a mind that is incapable of coherent thought.  Greene has never been qualified for her position and I suspect the people in her district in Georgia thought they were being funny when they elected her, but there is nothing funny about this – Greene is a threat and a danger to this nation.  GET.  HER.  OUT.

Lunatic

If you look up L. Lin Wood on Wikipedia, the first line tells you most of what you need to know:

“Lucian Lincoln “Lin” Wood Jr. (born October 19, 1952) is an American attorney and conspiracy theorist.”

Among his most famous conspiracy theories to date is that of The Big Lie, as Wood claims, despite mounds of evidence to the contrary, that “Trump had won the election with 70% of the vote, and that a secret cabal of international communists, Chinese intelligence, and Republican officials had contrived to steal the election from Trump.”

On Tuesday, Wood stood in front of a crowd in South Carolina and said …

“Donald J. Trump has never conceded…because he won the [2020] election. So be cool—it’s all going to be good in time. Donald J. Trump is still the guy the military will call for the code if they need a first strike. Joe Biden is not the President of the United States.”

Somebody needs to lock this man away before he causes irreparable harm to his family and himself!  Perhaps he and Marge Greene could share a padded room together!

He went on to say that Trump secretly invoked the Insurrection Act of 1807 before leaving office and can begin “cleaning things up” in the United States whensoever he desires. Per Wood, Trump will be the instrument of “God” when he does so.

No, Lin, the military will not call on the former guy for a nuclear code, and in fact, the former guy doesn’t have access to the nuclear codes anymore!  And if he is an ‘instrument of god’, then your god is evil incarnate!  Surely people aren’t so stupid as to fall for this bullshit?  And no, your former guy is naught more than an instrument of a deranged set of minds, people who cannot separate fact from fantasy.

Murderers

On January 6th, thousands of white supremacist and other potential murderers stormed the Capitol as the Congress prepared to certify the election results of 2020.  They erected a noose outside the Capitol, they went in chanting “Hang Mike Pence”, and it was later said they planned to drive all members of Congress into the underground tunnels and gas them to death.  These are the facts.

On Wednesday, a number of people testified about that day before Congress, including Representative Andrew Clyde from the state of Georgia, who said …

“Let me be clear, there was no insurrection. You would actually think it was a normal tourist visit.”

NO, YOU ONE-MAN FREAKSHOW!!!  No, nobody with a conscience and a brain would have thought that was a “normal tourist visit”.  There was a noose.  There were 140 police officers injured.  There were guns.  There was violence.  There were five people killed that very day.  There was a noose.  There was death and destruction.  These were jackfaces who had been encouraged by the asshole of a then-president to destroy the normal processes of law and silence our voices, overturn our election where WE THE PEOPLE voted for sanity, for compassion, for a president who had a fucking brain and the capability to speak in complete sentences!

The Republican Party can go down in flames for all that I care.  Mr. Andrew Clyde can hang himself in his own noose for all I care.  They are a lot of hypocritical jackasses and I hope they every one get what they deserve!

And speaking of those who attempted to commit treason on that fateful day … I loved this Randy Rainbow clip about none other than the empty-headed Josh Hawley …

The Ugly Face Of ‘Nationalism’

I could have been quite content to never hear the name “Marjorie Taylor Greene” again for as long as I live.  However, yesterday she flew face-first onto my radar and aroused such disgust that I truly wished for the opportunity for my fist to meet her face.  She and two others, Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona and Louie Gohmert of Texas (both of whom have crossed my radar before) have started a new House caucus that they are calling the “America First Caucus”.  Just the name itself raised my hackles … you’ll remember the former guy using that terminology many times, and I find it to be an arrogant, bigoted term.

So, to start with, just what is a ‘caucus’?  Congressional caucuses are voluntary groups made up of lawmakers seeking to advance certain policy agendas. While the groups operate outside of the formal congressional legislative structure, many, such as the ignoble House Freedom Caucus, have found success influencing debate and amplifying their voices.  There are at least a hundred caucuses in the House, most consisting of only 2-3 members, some only having a single member, and typically promoting a single idea, such as the “Arts Caucus” or the “House Specialty Crops Caucus” … yes, I’m serious!  But some, like the aforementioned House Freedom Caucus, have a hundred or more members and a broad agenda.

The 7-page document outlining the “America First Caucus” policy agenda begins …

“The America First Caucus (AFC) exists to promote Congressional policies that are to the long-term benefit of the American nation. The North Star of any policy proposal will be that which serves the American people, and any consequential analysis of policy platforms must be based on this first principle.

As this implies a degree of ideological flexibility, a certain intellectual boldness is needed amongst members of the AFC to follow in President Trump’s footsteps, and potentially step on some toes and sacrifice sacred cows for the good of the American nation.”

There is racist, bigoted language throughout the document.  In a section on immigration, the document describes the United States as a place with “uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions” and argues that “societal trust and political unity are threatened when foreign citizens are imported en-masse into a country, particularly without institutional support for assimilation and an expansive welfare state to bail them out should they fail to contribute positively to the country.”

The document calls to suspend all immigration, saying such pauses are “absolutely essential in assimilating the new arrivals and weeding out those who could not or refused to abandon their old loyalties and plunge head-first into mainstream American society.”

On infrastructure, the caucus calls for the construction of roads, bridges and buildings that reflect “the architectural, engineering and aesthetic value that befits the progeny of European architecture, whereby public infrastructure must be utilitarian as well as stunningly, classically beautiful, befitting a world power and source of freedom.”

I strongly urge you to read the document, for it is filled with racist, bigoted rhetoric.  Interestingly, a few other congressional Republicans weren’t too happy with it, either.  Even House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, whose ideology is typically far to the right of center, said …

“America is built on the idea that we are all created equal and success is earned through honest, hard work. It isn’t built on identity, race, or religion. The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln & the party of more opportunity for all Americans — not nativist dog whistles.”

GOP conference chairperson Liz Cheney, the third highest ranking House Republican, responded with …

“Republicans believe in equal opportunity, freedom, and justice for all. We teach our children the values of tolerance, decency and moral courage. Racism, nativism, and anti-Semitism are evil. History teaches we all have an obligation to confront & reject such malicious hate.”

Democratic Representative Ted Lieu’s response was spot on …

“As an immigrant, I served on active duty in the US military to defend your right to say stupid stuff. What makes America great is that we don’t judge you based on bloodline, we look at your character.”

Last February, the House voted to remove Ms. Greene from her committee assignments based on her promotion of QAnon conspiracy theories, so she has had virtually nothing to do (yet We the People pay her $174,000 per year), and this caucus is presumably the result.  Trouble is that what Ms. Greene fails to understand is first that this is a nation of immigrants … immigrants from all over the world, not just “Anglo-Saxon” countries.  Second, she needs to understand that this is the 21st century, not the 18th.  We are all in this world together … air travel, the Internet, and other technologies have shrunken the globe and what one nation does can easily affect every other nation on the planet.  In the sections on the environment and energy, the document reads …

“The America First Caucus supports conservation of the environment and our national lands for the benefit of our nation. Having said that, we should not cripple our country’s manufacturing sector through agreements such as the Paris Climate Accords. We oppose the globalist, vague, and irrelevant policies being pushed under the guise of combating climate change.

While it is vital to preserve our environment, we should not use it as an impetus to destroy the energy industry that hires millions of hard-working Americans. Our elected officials should stand proudly with America’s struggling coal country against job-killing regulations, and welcome the ongoing shift towards clean coal. In addition, the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines will promote North American energy independence …”

Ms. Greene literally has zero qualifications to be in Congress, and even fewer qualifications to opine on things of which she has no knowledge.  Her ‘caucus’ is based solely on emotions, personal opinions, and uneducated views.  I had hoped that the people of her district in Georgia would vote her out next year and rid us of this terrible disease, but reportedly, she is raking in the campaign donations, so perhaps that dream is dead.

Ms. Greene’s ideology, such as it is, would close us off from the rest of the world, make this nation isolated and shielded from new ideas, cultural sharing, and protection of neighbors and allies.  And it would disenfranchise nearly half of the people in this nation.  There is no place in this country for the type of hateful ‘nationalism’ (another word I deplore) that Ms. Greene and her cohorts are proposing.  NONE!
