Some Words of Perspective …

If you could use a bit of encouragement today, Robert Reich has just the right message with his Election Day thoughts.  No, he doesn’t promise that everything will come up rosy in the morning, but … he does put things into context, a historical context, that reminds us that even if it ain’t a bed of roses, it also isn’t a box of thorns with nary a bud.

Take a look … listen to what he has to say and read his words of wisdom, think about what he says.  Then take a deep breath and relax, my friends.

Another Democratic Star Candidate Is Born In The State Of Texas, M J Hegar

A few days ago, my dear friend Mary sent me a video about a woman who is running for a congressional seat in Texas. MJ Hegar is pretty amazing … a war hero who was awarded a purple heart as well as a Distinguished Flying Cross after her helicopter was shot down over Afghanistan. I was impressed and planned to try to squeeze a piece about her into my schedule this week, but then I discovered that our friend Gronda had covered Ms. Hegar as well as two other pretty remarkable candidates for the November mid-terms. Why re-invent the wheel, right? So, I share with you this afternoon Gronda’s piece about three up-and-coming candidates to keep a close eye on this election season … and be sure to watch the short video titled “Doors” – it is fascinating! Many thanks, Gronda!

There is another Democratic star in the State of Texas besides Beto O’Rourke who in campaigning against the republican Senator Ted Cruz. Her name is MJ Hegar. You will be hearing a lot more about her in the near future as she will be competing against Rep. John Carter in a dark-red district in central Texas to be its next US Congressperson.

She’s joining a handful of other first time democratic candidates who have that star quality like Randy Bryce, the steel worker from Wisconsin and Amy McGrath of Kentucky, a first military female fighter pilot.

The Rats Know

Blogger-friend Erik Hare of Barataria has some interesting thoughts about the November mid-term elections. Some I had already considered, but one point he makes that I hadn’t thought about is valid, I think: the election “won’t be about policy or anything substantial, it will be about getting rid of Trump. ” I think he is spot on! As is the title of his work … every time another member of Congress announces that he/she won’t seek re-election, the very thought comes to my mind, “rats deserting a sinking ship”. Please take a minute to read Erik’s post … it is food for thought. Thanks, Erik, for implied permission to re-blog!

Barataria - The work of Erik Hare

Like all mariner tales, the story slips in like a schooner on a foggy, becalmed day. Rats, the story goes, might leap off the lines that held a boat fast to the dock if they knew the next voyage was doomed. And rats, as creatures of the bilge, always knew. When you see them on the lines do not sign on to that ship for she is bound for Davy Jones’ locker.

People today are rarely as superstitious as ancient sailors. But when you have far too many hours adrift at sea with no winds, like this Congress, the mind does wander. A change of leadership isn’t always up to the voters, as it were, but up to the crew and their desire to not miss the message of the rats.
