Roger Stone … he’s a nasty piece of work.  He’s part of the reason we are in the mess we’re in today, with a president who thinks he’s king, with the wealthy calling the shots while the rest of us are lied to and our rights diminished on a daily basis.  But let’s go back a little further …For many years in the 1980s and ‘90s, Stone was a lobbyist for Donald Trump on behalf of his casino businesses.  Stone has been involved in so many scandals that I’ve lost count.  Stone is also associated with Proud Boys, a far-right, fascist, white supremacist group.  He has been affiliated with Alex Jones’ Infowars, Breitbart, and the conspiracy theory that claimed President Obama was born outside the U.S.  Stone has linked his fortunes with so many nasties that it would take me the whole day to tell you about them all.  But his most recent crimes landed him, finally, in very hot water.stone-angryRoger Stone was largely responsible, along with Russian operators and Julian Assange, for hacking into Hillary Clinton’s emails during the 2016 election.  On January 25, 2019 Stone was arrested on seven criminal charges in relation to Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election:  one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering.

On February 18, 2019, Stone posted on Instagram a photo of the federal judge overseeing his case, Amy Berman Jackson, with what resembled rifle scope crosshairs next to her head.Amy-Berman-JacksonAfter a week-long trial in November 2019, the jury convicted Stone on all counts.  His sentencing hearing was originally scheduled for February 6th, but his attorneys requested a delay until sometime after March 9th.  Stone’s attorneys have argued for no jail time, but only probation.  Yesterday, prosecutors recommended a sentence of between 7 and 9 years.  Immediately Donald Trump tweeted inanely …

“This is a horrible and very unfair situation. The real crimes were on the other side, as nothing happens to them. Cannot allow this miscarriage of justice!”

And now I come to the part of this story that should horrify you.

Stone-orange-suitThe Department of Justice plans to reduce its sentencing recommendation.  No word yet on whether they will recommend only probation, or perhaps a sentence of only a few months.  But think about this one, folks.  The man is a criminal, has been a criminal all his adult life, has been proven to have broken countless laws including lying to Congress and threatening a witness, and he is a large part of the reason that Donald Trump is sitting in the Oval Office today, though not through legitimate means.  And yet, because Donald Trump threw a hissy fit, the Department of Justice, under Trump’s lackey William Barr, is going to actually override justice to please the “president”.  In other words … we have no Department of Justice and Trump is now calling the shots.

Think about it … it can work in both ways.  Say I’m arrested outside the White House for protesting something that Trump has done … if Trump told William Barr he wanted me put away for life, no amount of arguing by my attorneys would change the verdict.  Is this what we’ve allowed to happen in this nation? Paul Manafort is serving a 7 ½ year sentence for his crimes … why should Stone get any less, for his crimes were every bit as serious as Manafort’s?

broken-justiceJustice.  It’s a funny word, for it’s open to interpretation.  There are grey areas, for sure.  But, when the ‘man’ sitting in the Oval Office can literally override the courts, can decide what he wants and the Department of “Justice” will accede to his whims and wishes, then … there is no justice.  If the court gives Roger Stone no more than a slap on the wrist for his very serious crimes, then this nation is in deep trouble … the last bastion of hope for salvation from a cruel dictator will have crumbled.

It Finally Happened. President’s Buddy Roger Stone Has Been Arrested By FBI On 1/25/19

Yet another thread in the tangled web of Trump/Russia connections that served to put an unqualified person in the White House, has been exposed. Roger Stone has … well, just read Gronda’s ‘good news’ post. Trump’s web of lies is unraveling. Thank you, Gronda, for starting the weekend out with some good news!

On January 25, 2019, I was watching the MSNBC TV show, “Morning Joe,” when it was announced that the FBI under the auspices of the Special Counsel Robert Mueller III, heading its Trump-Russia Probe, arrested the republican President Donald Trump’s old friend, Roger Stone on the morning of the 25th of January 2019 based on being charged on 7 counts. The charges include one count of obstruction of justice, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering.

As per NYT:  Read the indictment.

Roger Stone had worked in President Trump’s campaign for a short time in an official capacity until August 2015 but then they parted ways. There are different accounts as to why Roger Stone left the campaign but it is important to note that President Trump, his former campaign manager Paul Manafort and Roger Stone have had a relationship, going…

Is Roger Stone Next On FBI’s Special Counsel Mueller’s Dance Card?

Ol’ Roger Stone is back in the headlines. Is it possible that he is about to finally get what he deserves? Please take a minute to read this post by our friend Gronda who has done her homework on this one, as always! Thank you, Gronda!!!

Gronda Morin

My guess is that Roger Stone, a long time political strategist and friend to the republican President Donald Trump will be next on the FBI”s Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Trump-Russian probe to be invited for an interview where his testimony will be given under oath.

The circumstantial case that I have developed from public information leads me to think this. First, Roger Stone and Paul Manafort were business partners for years and their firm had actually previously done lobbying work on behalf of the president during his casino business days. Roger Stone has ties to Russia going way back and so does Paul Manafort.

As per the 8/6/15 Hill report by Mark Hensch, Roger Stone said he (was) resigning from the New York business mogul’s political team after concluding he is not aiding its progress…
“I resigned largely because I thought I was having no impact,” Stone told host Poppy…

Biggest Spider Web Ever …

Is there one, single person in Trump’s administration, family, or inner circle who is honest?  In a word, the answer would seem to be a resounding NO!  Just in the past 48 hours, there have been new tales of scandal surrounding son-in-law Jared Kushner, long-time confidante Roger Stone, and close advisor and communications director Hope Hicks. That’s just in the past 24 hours!!!  Never … NEVER in the history of the United States has there been a more corrupt, nastier group of people in a single administration than today.  Trump & Co. make Nixon & Co. look like a bunch of bloomin’ angels!  And this was the man who promised he was going to “drain the swamp” in Washington?  Looks to me as if all he did was bring in a whole lot more, uglier and more lethal crocodiles!  Let us, briefly, take a look at each of these most recent abominations …

Jared Kushner

Kushner-4Jared Kushner’s company, Kushner Companies, is in trouble.  Deep trouble to the tune of $1.2 billion.  Yes, that’s billion.  While Kushner officially divested his interest in the family business when he accepted a job in the Trump administration, he did not stop seeking funding to stop the bleeding in the business.  To that end, he was a liability from day #1, for at least four foreign interests, fully aware of Kushner’s company’s financial woes, considered ways to manipulate him, to use his troubles to their advantage.  United Arab Emirates, China, Israel and Mexico viewed Kushner as likely to be easily influenced.  And that doesn’t even touch on his meeting with Sergey Gorkov, the head of a state-owned Russian development bank in December 2016.

Kushner’s firm has sought investments from the Chinese insurer Anbang and from the former prime minister of Qatar.  Kushner’s company has also received loans from Apollo Global Management, whose co-founder Joshua Harris has met numerous times with Kushner in the White House, and CitiBank, whose CEO Michael Corbat also met with Kushner in early 2017.  There is obviously no clear line of demarcation between Kushner’s role in the White House and his business interests, despite the fact that he supposedly stepped away from Kushner Companies.

Add to that his omissions on his security clearance forms that he has been forced to revise numerous times, his attempt to establish a ‘secret communication channel’ with the Kremlin, and his breaking protocol by not coordinating foreign contacts through the National Security Council, and you have one very smelly situation.

Roger Stone

roger-stoneI can always tell when Roger Stone is back in the news, for the piece I wrote about him and his wife in July 2016  starts getting views, even though that piece is nearly two years old.  This week, it has already received 69 views, so I knew Stone was back on the radar.

On March 17, 2017, WikiLeaks tweeted that it had never communicated with Roger Stone, a longtime confidante and informal adviser to President Donald Trump. In his interview with the House Intelligence Committee last September, Stone, who testified under oath, told lawmakers that he had communicated with WikiLeaks via an “intermediary,” whom he identified only as a “journalist.” And then came evidence of the lie:  Private Twitter messages show that Stone and WikiLeaks communicated directly on October 13, 2016, and that WikiLeaks sought to keep its channel to Stone open after Trump won the election.

While not officially a part of the administration, Roger Stone has been a close friend and confidante of Donald Trump’s for years and served as Trump’s lobbyist for more than a decade.  There is no reason to believe that the two are not still closely allied.  WikiLeaks was, in part, responsible for releasing information that made public the emails of Hillary Clinton and others during the 2016 campaign.

Hope Hicks

hicksWhite House communications director Hope Hicks announced her intention to resign on Wednesday, the day after she refused to answer questions during an appearance before House investigators looking into Russian interference in the 2016 election.  Add to that, the fact that she was the mistress of ousted Staff Secretary Rob Porter, who resigned amid accusations of domestic violence that were known by the administration long before becoming public knowledge.

Setting aside her lack of morals, I prefer to concentrate on her refusal to answer questions under oath.  Being possessed of a naturally suspicious mind, I almost always assume that somebody who refuses to answer questions in this sort of an investigation has something to hide and is protecting either themselves or somebody else.  This situation is no different.  Hicks has been one of the handful of people that have been closest to Trump since the very beginning of his campaign three years ago, so she is certain to know almost everything there is to know. And then to announce her resignation the very next day?  Nope, nothing innocent about this woman, folks.

During her testimony, if one can even call it that, Hicks acknowledged she has had to tell what amounted to ‘white lies’. She pointedly and repeatedly declined to answer questions about the presidential transition or her time in the White House, telling investigators that she had been asked by the White House to discuss only her time on the campaign.

Hicks’ testimony is … or would be if she would give any … relevant, for she has been close to the Trump campaign and administration almost since day #1, plus she was involved with the firing of FBI Director James Comey, as well as that infamous 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between Russians and top Trump campaign officials.  I would like to see her subpoenaed, for her refusal to answer, coupled with her admission to telling lies and subsequent resignation are ringing very loud alarm bells.

And there you have it, folks, the latest filaments that are to be found in that huge spider web known as the Trump administration.  And he called Hillary Clinton ‘crooked’?????

Say WHAT???

Guess who is running for the U.S. Senate seet from the state of Maryland this year?  None other than Ms. Chelsea Manning.  For any who may not remember Chelsea Manning, she is the former United States Army soldier who was convicted by court-martial in July 2013, of violations of the Espionage Act and other offenses, after disclosing to WikiLeaks nearly 750,000 classified, or unclassified but sensitive, military and diplomatic documents.

Chelsea ManningAs an Army intelligence analyst, she had access to classified databases. In early 2010, she confided to an acquaintance that she had leaked classified information to WikiLeaks.  That acquaintance, Adrian Lamo, informed the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command, and Manning was arrested in May of 2010.  Manning was ultimately charged with 22 offenses, including aiding the enemy, which was the most serious charge and could have resulted in a death sentence.

Manning pleaded guilty in February 2013 to 10 of the charges, and was convicted of all except ‘aiding the enemy’ on July 30th, 2013. She was sentenced to 35 years at the maximum-security U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth. Including time served while awaiting trial, Manning had served just short of seven years when, in January 2017, President Obama commuted her sentence, calling it disproportionate.

Which brings us to yesterday, when it was announced that Ms. Manning has filed with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) to run for the Senate in the November mid-term elections. She is running as a democrat, and in the primary will be challenging Senator Benjamin L. Cardin.  Senator Cardin is the senior senator from Maryland, and in his last election bid won by 75%.

Now that you have the facts of the matter, let’s give this some thought …

The nearly 750,000 documents that Manning released to WikiLeaks were classified or sensitive.  Some of those documents pertained to troop movement in Iraq and Afghanistan and could have potentially put at risk the lives of the men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.  The fact that she was sentenced to 35 years should be enough, in my view, to disqualify her from holding any office, let alone one of the most important in the nation.

After a bit of initial research, I can find not one single thing that qualifies Ms. Manning for the senate seat.  She attended only one semester of college, and dropped out after failing her exam.   She has no government experience outside of her military career.

To address the elephant in the room, Ms. Manning is transgender, having been born Bradley Edward Manning.  As far as I am concerned, this is an irrelevant fact, and should not affect her candidacy one way or another.  But the reality is that we all know it will.  If Manning wins the democratic nomination, the democrats will lose the senate seat currently held by Cardin to a republican. The far right, the evangelical Christians, will pretend to be so highly offended, get their knickers in a knot, and be so morally outraged that the entire election will turn into yet another three-ring circus.

Though some have hailed Manning a hero for leaking classified documents, this writer fails to see it that way.  My take is that she broke the law, she compromised national security, and risked the lives of many dedicated military personnel.  And for what?  She said she had leaked the cables “to show the true cost of war”.  Sorry, it doesn’t fly.

She has been conviceted of very serious crimes … 21 counts of very serious crimes.  So, it is incomprehensible that her candidacy will even leave the launch pad, right?  Maybe.  Or maybe not.  It was incomprehensible that Donald Trump would be elected president.  It was incomprehensible that Greg Gianforte would be elected to the House of Representtives just a day after beating up a reporter for asking a question.  There have been so many incomprehensibles that … well, happened anyway … that I  do not think anything is outside the realm of possibility.  I am not alone …

Todd Eberly, a political-science professor at St. Mary’s College in Maryland, said Donald Trump’s unexpected rise to the presidency opened the door for political neophytes such as Manning.

“My initial thought quite literally was, ‘Donald Trump is president, Oprah Winfrey is the leading contender for Democrats in 2020, why the hell not Chelsea Manning in the U.S. Senate?’ ”

IF Ms. Manning had any qualifications for the job, and IF she were not a convicted criminal, and IF I believed for one minute that she had a well-planned agenda that promoted humanitarian/environmental values in the best interest of the nation, I would be happy to welcome her candidacy.  Since none of those three criteria exist, I have to question why she is even throwing her hat into this ring.  There is absolutely no way she will be able to beat any republican candidate, whereas Senator Cardin is considered a safe bet to win against a republican candidate.  Surely she is smart enough to realize this?  So, what is her motive?  Publicity?  Attention?  Since she has refused to issue a statement or respond to calls from the press, we can only speculate at this point.  One thing is for sure:  her candidacy is certain to create chaos, not only in Maryland, but throughout the nation.  We can only hope she has the good sense to withdraw her filing, or at the very least that she does not win the democratic nomination in June.

Faux News Runs Amok

Note: I had two articles started, one of which would have become this afternoon’s post:  one about the latest news on the Dakota Access Pipeline, and the other about the Austrian presidential election.  Both would have been good posts, I think, as both brought good news.  But then something crossed my radar that literally sickened me, then enraged me, and I am still so mad I am shaking and ready to burst into tears, so my focus shifted.  Be advised that this is a rant.

The man who was supposed to “make America great again” has instead made America a place of shame and fear such as we have never known before.  He has almost single-handedly divided families and friends, and he has made our streets far less safe than they were a few short months ago.

welch-1Yesterday in Washington D.C., a 28-year-old male, Edgar Maddison Welch, of Salisbury, North Carolina, walked into a pizzeria, Cosmic Ping Pong, with two assault weapons and fired shots.  Luckily, nobody was hurt and the man was subdued and arrested by police within a short time.  In October, Welch intentionally hit a 13-year-old girl with his car, and though police say the investigation is ‘ongoing’, Welch has not been charged in that incident. In and of itself, yesterday’s incident would be not much more than another argument in favour of enhanced background checks prior to gun sales, however there is much more to this story.

During the contentious, hate-filled campaign for the office of president this year, faux news became as common as Coca-Cola advertisements.  I am not referring to publications like The Onion, which plainly state they are satirical and which most people visit simply for a bit of humour.  No, I am referring to those Facebook memes that are from non-mainstream news outlets, and some that even appear to be from outlets such as ABC News, or CNN, but a bit of investigation proves otherwise.  The most blatantly vicious of them originated from the Trump side of the tracks.

One such story circulated toward the end of the campaign claimed that Hillary Clinton and her campaign chief, John D. Podesta were kidnapping, molesting and trafficking children in the restaurant’s back rooms, or according to one version, in tunnels beneath the restaurant.  Nobody … I repeat NOBODY in their right minds, NOBODY with an ounce of brain cells in their heads, would believe this crap, right?  RIGHT?  Wrong.  Apparently, as this fake story circulated on social media, a great many people believed it.  The owner of Comet Ping Pong, James Alefantis, and his employees began receiving hundreds of death threats via text, email and twitter.  Despite Mr. Alefantis’ best efforts, and the involvement of D.C. police and the FBI, the threats have continued and the fake ‘scandal’ has expanded into what is now known as #Pizzagate. Sunday’s incident was just the latest in the escalation of this madness.

Inside Comet Ping Pong, James Alefantis and employee

Comet’s General Manager, Bryce Reh, and his wife have also received a significant number of death threats, but it doesn’t stop there, as other businesses close to Comet have also received threats.  Matt Carr, the owner of the Little Red Fox market and coffee shop, said his business started getting threats last weekend. They got 30 to 40 calls before they stopped answering calls from blocked numbers, he said. “One person said he wanted to line us up in front of a firing squad,” said Carr, who spent more than an hour in lockdown with his employees Sunday. And Politics and Prose, the bookstore that has been a Washington institution and neighborhood fixture for more than 30 years, received threats recently. After the story broke yesterday, Washington Post reporters involved in this article were the target of online threats shortly after it posted.

Most troubling for Mr. Alefantis and staff has been the use of their children’s images, pilfered from the restaurant’s social media pages and the personal accounts of friends who had “liked” Comet Ping Pong online. Whoever is the ‘mastermind’ behind this slur campaign apparently has no conscience, using the pictures of innocent children, to promote their hate campaign.  Even musicians who have performed at Comet Ping Pong have received hate messages and death threats!

How did the rumour start, anyway?  According to the New York Times :

“The misinformation campaign began when John Podesta’s email account was hacked and his emails were published by WikiLeaks during the presidential campaign. Days before the election, users on the online message board 4Chan noticed that one of Mr. Podesta’s leaked emails contained communications with Mr. Alefantis discussing a fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton.

The 4Chan users immediately speculated about the links between Comet Ping Pong and the Democratic Party. Some posited the restaurant was part of a larger Democratic child trafficking ring, which was a theory long held by some conservative blogs. That idea jumped to other social media services such as Twitter and Reddit, where it gained momentum on the page “The_Donald.” A new Reddit discussion thread called “Pizzagate” quickly attracted 20,000 subscribers.

Glen Caplin, a former campaign official for Mrs. Clinton, did not comment directly about Comet Ping Pong but said, “WikiLeaks has spawned several conspiracy theories that have been independently debunked.” Mr. Podesta did not respond to requests for comment.

Soon, dozens of fake news articles on sites such as Facebook, Planet Free Will and Living Resistance emerged. Readers shared the stories in Saudi Arabia and on Turkish and other foreign language sites.”

Notably, all the misinformation that came out of WikiLeaks was unfavourable to the Clinton campaign, favourable to Trump.  Am I the only one here who smells a giant RAT?  Now, to take this story yet one step further …

According to Politico  , the son of retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Donald Trump’s pick for national security adviser, embraced the baseless conspiracy theory, and Flynn himself has been involved in promoting other conspiracy theories that started as a result of the WikiLeaks hack into Mr. Podesta’s emails.

Throughout the final weeks of the campaign, Trump continually claimed that the “election was rigged”.  He claimed it was rigged against him, but stories like this, and the proven claim that Russian hackers did, in fact, affect the outcome to some extent, indicate that the election was indeed rigged … by Donald J. Trump and his minions.  Trump is in no way qualified to lead this nation … he is leading us down a path of moral decay and will ultimately lead us into war. But the lemmings are still following, for they are merely … lemmings … brainless lemmings. (Told you it was a rant!)

I end this post as I began it … with tears of shame for this nation. I am ashamed of every adult who has ever shared a faux news story on social media without taking the time and effort to check the veracity.  I am ashamed of every adult in this nation who still supports Donald Trump after listening to him put down women, the handicapped, immigrants, journalists, African-Americans, Hispanics, Muslims, and others.  Those who can overlook Trump’s sexual misbehaviours, his misogynist remarks, him saying he would sleep with his own daughter … I am ashamed of you.  I am ashamed of all those who are too brainless to see what Trump actually is, when it has been thrown in all our faces for over a year.  And I am ashamed of those who believe crap that is obviously a figment of somebody’s imagination, then act on it, risking innocent lives.  I find lately that it is difficult for me to go out in public, to shopping malls, even the grocery store, as I look at other people and wonder … are they buying into the Trump philosophy?  Are they carrying a loaded gun?  This is the legacy of Trump, people … he has made us a nation of shame, fear, and contempt.  Some of us, those who still have a conscience, do not know how to function in this new world, the world of faux news, lack of values, and phobias too numerous to name.

Sanity Amidst Turmoil

Michelle Obama is a lady of grace, character and dignity like no other, and in her speech at the Democratic National Convention last night, she demonstrated all of those traits and more.  No matter who wins the election in November, I know that I will miss the dignity and intellect that both Barack and Michele Obama have brought to the White House.

First, for any who did not see Ms. Obama last night, here is a link to both the video and full transcript of the speech:  Michelle Obama’s DNC speech

This speech, above all, exemplifies what the convention should be about, as opposed to the ranting and name-calling that seems to have become the hallmark of political speeches in the modern day.  It was by far the most positive speech I have heard or read during this election season. Ms. Obama did not mention Donald Trump’s name a single time, nor did she make nasty remarks directed at him.  Instead, she said:

“I want someone with the proven strength to persevere, someone who knows this job and takes it seriously, someone who understands that the issues a president faces are not black-and-white and cannot be boiled down to 140 characters.”

“Because when you have the nuclear codes at your fingertips and the military in your command, you can’t make snap decisions. You can’t have a thin skin or a tendency to lash out. You need to be steady and measured and well-informed.”

“I want a president with a record of public service, someone whose life’s work shows our children that we don’t chase fame and fortune for ourselves, we fight to give everyone a chance to succeed.”

“So, look, so don’t let anyone ever tell you that this country isn’t great, that somehow we need to make it great again. Because this right now is the greatest country on earth!”

Perhaps the most important message of the night was this:

“So in this election, we cannot sit back and hope that everything works out for the best. We cannot afford to be tired or frustrated or cynical.”

I concur with Washington Post reporter Janell Ross when she says “This address is how political spouse speechmaking can and should be done.”

No, we certainly cannot sit and hope for the best. With the conflict and divisiveness that has defined this election, it is all too easy to become tired, frustrated and cynical, but we need to inject enthusiasm into our support of Ms. Clinton. We can no longer afford to have the “ho hum, well at least she’s better than Trump” attitude we have exhibited thus far.  I, too, am guilty of that, but in the last several days I have come to see that this lack of enthusiasm is not the way to inspire others to actually want to vote for Clinton.  It is rather like putting a meal on the table, saying “it isn’t much, but at least you won’t starve.”  Doesn’t exactly make your mouth water, does it?

One humorous side note:  the funniest political cartoon I saw this morning showed Donnie and Melania in front of the television, watching Michelle Obama’s speech, Melania with a notepad, scribbling furiously, and Donnie saying “Quit taking notes”!

Bernie Sanders also spoke eloquently and passionately last night, and rose far above the voices of those who booed and attempted to disrupt him.  For a full transcript of his speech:  Bernie Sanders DNC speech

Where Ms. Obama’s speech focused mainly on values and family, rather than platform specifics, Sanders dealt more with specifics, while at the same time calling for party unity and declaring his support for Clinton.

“Let me be as clear as I can be. This election is not about, and has never been about, Hillary Clinton, or Donald Trump, or Bernie Sanders or any of the other candidates who sought the presidency. This election is not about political gossip. It’s not about polls. It’s not about campaign strategy. It’s not about fundraising. It’s not about all the things the media spends so much time discussing. This election is about – and must be about – the needs of the American people and the kind of future we create for our children and grandchildren.”

“We have come a long way in the last 7 1/2 years, and I thank President Obama and Vice President Biden for their leadership in pulling us out of that terrible recession. Yes, we have made progress, but I think we can all agree that much, much more needs to be done.”

“This election is about which candidate understands the real problems facing this country and has offered real solutions – not just bombast, fear-mongering, name-calling and divisiveness.”

“We need leadership in this country which will improve the lives of working families, the children, the elderly, the sick and the poor. We need leadership which brings our people together and makes us stronger – not leadership which insults Latinos, Muslims, women, African-Americans and veterans – and divides us up. By these measures, any objective observer will conclude that – based on her ideas and her leadership – Hillary Clinton must become the next president of the United States. The choice is not even close. “

Like Ms. Obama, he reminds us that we cannot sit quietly on the sidelines and expect the outcome to be for the best, but we must become involved and engaged in the battle ahead.

“If you don’t believe this election is important, if you think you can sit it out, take a moment to think about the Supreme Court justices that Donald Trump would nominate and what that would mean to civil liberties, equal rights and the future of our country.”

“Our job now is to see that platform implemented by a Democratic Senate, a Democratic House and a Hillary Clinton presidency – and I am going to do everything I can to make that happen.”

As I hoped, the speeches and general tone of the Democratic convention are much calmer, much saner than those we saw in the Republican convention.  However, the convention is not completely united, not entirely without discord and disharmony.  Unfortunately, just days ahead of the convention, Wikileaks released documents allegedly about Clinton, the campaign and internal discussions.  I will not comment at this time about the content,  source or validity of the documents, as I have not had time to review them closely and I think there are still many unanswered questions. However, the incident led to the ouster of Democratic National Committee Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and invited Sanders’ supporters and others to protest both outside and inside the convention center at a very bad time (no doubt intentional). It is to be hoped that the speeches of Ms. Obama and Mr. Sanders have begun to do the job of reversing at least part of the damage that was done by Wikileaks.  In the coming days, the party simply must find a way to overcome any remaining divide and bring unity and harmony within the party, as they must present a united front to conquer the madness that is on the other side.
