Ignorance Is NOT Bliss!

Yo … republicans!  Gather ‘round here for just a minute … I want you to listen to this bit from a speech your so-called president gave on Saturday …

“We’ll have an economy based on wind. I never understood wind. You know, I know windmills very much. I’ve studied it better than anybody. I know it’s very expensive. They’re made in China and Germany mostly — very few made here, almost none. But they’re manufactured tremendous — if you’re into this — tremendous fumes. Gases are spewing into the atmosphere. You know we have a world, right? So the world is tiny compared to the universe. So tremendous, tremendous amount of fumes and everything. You talk about the carbon footprint — fumes are spewing into the air. Right? Spewing. Whether it’s in China, Germany, it’s going into the air. It’s our air, their air, everything — right? So they make these things and then they put them up. They are noisy. They kill the birds. You want to see a bird graveyard, go under a windmill someday. You will see more dead birds than you’ve ever seen in your life.”

“I know windmills very much.  I’ve studied it better than anybody”???  What the hell does that even mean???  Trump claims that he doesn’t drink alcohol, but I’m not so sure I believe that, for he sure sounded like an old drunk to me!  He uttered 156 words that made not one little bit of sense, that had absolutely no meaning, except to prove his utter ignorance, for not one single thing he said is true!!!  And some of you guys still think he’s the greatest thing since sliced white bread???

The stupidity is astounding, would be astounding coming from anybody, but … the leader of a nation of some 330 million people?  No … just no.  But wait … it gets even worse.

He was speaking to approximately 5,000 high school and college students at the Turning Point USA conference in West Palm Beach, Florida.turning-point.pngAlso in attendance were Don Junior, Melania, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Dinesh D’Souza, Ted Cruz, Matt Gaetz, and Rudy Giuliani.  What a bunch, eh?  What is most disgusting, though, is that these young people, the future of this nation, were wildly enthusiastic about Trump’s message.  The topic that seemed to get the loudest applause, and a standing ovation, was when he bragged about turning away asylum seekers and exaggerated the amount of new border wall that his administration has built.  They repeatedly jumped to their feet, at one point chanting, “Four more years.”  And the part that should give you cold chills came when Trump yelled …

“From now on, start yelling 16 more years.”

This is not the first time he has hinted at or alluded to serving more than the maximum two terms.  This is not the first time, nor is it likely to be the last, that he has given the distinct impression that he will not leave the Oval Office without a fight, that he sees himself as a “ruler for life”.  The U.S. Constitution places certain limitations on the power of the presidency, but Donald Trump has shown disdain for the very document he took an oath to uphold.  Sure, there are ‘checks and balances’, but again, he has already broken those in more ways than one.  And he has his slavishly loyal supporters in Congress who refuse to do their job and rein in his power.

There are so many reasons that Trump must go, or we will find that by the end of his second term he has managed to destroy whatever was once good about this nation. And there is no reason he should be re-elected … not one single reason.  If the republicans put him back in office, it may well be the darkest day in the history of this nation, and will certainly be the darkest day for the future of the nation.  Read that bit of his speech from Saturday again and tell me if you think this is a person suited to lead.

This Is A Speech???

The Idiot-in-Chief spoke to a group of people outside of Pittsburgh yesterday.  We paid the costs for him to go there and give a speech, the title of which was “America’s Energy Dominance and Manufacturing Revival.”  The title is a joke anyway, for the U.S. in no way dominates energy, and in fact we are failing to do what we need to in promoting renewable energy over fossil fuel energy.  But, beyond that, the entire speech was a joke.  Let’s look at a few of the things he said … my own snarky remarkys are in blue.

On the supposed benefits of natural gas over renewable energy: “When the wind stops blowing, it doesn’t make any difference does it? Unlike those big windmills that destroy everybody’s property values, kill all the birds. One day the environmentalists are going to tell us what’s going on with that. And then all of a sudden it stops. The wind and the televisions go off. And your wives and husbands say: ‘Darling, I want to watch Donald Trump on television tonight. But the wind stopped blowing and I can’t watch. There’s no electricity in the house, darling.’”  Is it clear to everybody now that Trump has no conception of how wind and solar energy work, and that he is in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry?

On his love of trucks: “I love cranes, I love trucks of all types. Even when I was a little boy at 4 years old, my mother would say, ‘You love trucks.’ I do, I always loved trucks, I still do. Nothing changes — sometimes you know you might become president, but nothing changes — I still love trucks. Especially when I look at the largest crane in the world, that’s very cool. You think I’ll get to operate it? We’ll put the media on it and I’ll give them a little ride, right?”  This is relevant to anything … how?

On pundits suggesting he might not leave office willingly: “Can you imagine if I got a fair press? I mean, we’re leading without it; can you imagine if these people treated me fairly? The election would be over. Have they ever called off an election before? Just said, ‘Look just let’s go, go on four more years.’ You want to really drive them crazy? Go to #ThirdTerm, #FourthTerm — you’ll drive them totally crazy.”  Be afraid, my friends, for this is not the first time he’s alluded to overstaying his welcome.

On what Trump perceives as a trade imbalance with Japan: “They send us thousands and thousands — millions of cars, we send them wheat. Wheat. That’s not a good deal. And they don’t even want our wheat. They do it because they want us to at least feel that we’re OK, you know, they do it to make us feel good.”  This remark is just so utterly stupid that I’m left stuttering.  No nation is buying anything just to “make us feel good”!  We’re talking international trade, not a game of checkers!

On the price tag of the presidency: “This thing is costing me a fortune, being president. Somebody said, ‘Oh, he might have rented a room to a man from Saudi Arabia for $500.’ What about the $5 billion that I’ll lose — you know, it’s probably going to cost me, including, upside, downside, lawyers, because every day they sue me for something. These are the most litigious people. It’s probably costing me from $3 to $5 billion for the pleasure of being — and I couldn’t care less, I don’t care. You know if you’re wealthy, it doesn’t matter. I just want to do a great job.”  Trump is profiting “bigly” from being president!  First, he and his children travel all over the world at our expense.  Foreign dignitaries stay in Trump hotels when they visit the U.S.  And here’s one for you … just yesterday, an article in Politico said that the U.S. Secret Service had spent some $20,000 at a Trump hotel in Canada when they had to accompany Trump’s eldest son on one of his hunting trips.  Trust me, Trump is racking in the dough from this gig. He went on to ramble about such things as the Academy Awards, Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren, once again referring to Warren as “Pocahontas”.  It was, for all intents and purposes, naught more than a campaign rally, though it was intended to be a presidential speech at a new Shell facility that is nearing completion in Pittsburgh.  And here’s the kicker … he took credit for Shell building the facility, but Shell actually announced the facility back in 2012, when Barack Obama was president.  It had not a thing to do with Donald Trump.

The stock market is taking a hit today.  I wonder who he will manage to blame for that … Hillary Clinton?Shaub

Back On The Campaign Trail …

Donald Trump is once again out on the campaign trail … on our dime and time.  This time the venue was Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where the local paper, the Gazette, placed an ‘Open Letter’ to Trump on its front page.  A few highlights:

The last time you visited us, you were a candidate for the presidency. Now, you’re the commander in chief. And you’ll no doubt be happy to know interviews by Gazette reporters show some of the local voters who supported you are still in your corner, even after your rocky start. [emphasis added]

It’s always a big deal when a president comes to town. But we couldn’t help but notice the main event of your trip today is a campaign rally. Mr. President, the campaign is over. You won. Now is not the time to rally. Now is the time to sell your policies, listen to Americans with a stake in those efforts and govern. Iowans have questions and concerns about your plans. They can’t be heard over the cheers of a rally.

And although we understand addressing climate change is not among your priorities, we will point out that the more frequent heavy rains it spawns have brought major flooding to this city twice in eight years. Preparing for the worst is a priority here, not a hoax.

We understand your strong desire to save America’s coal industry. But here in Iowa, we’re already generating a large percentage of our power through alternative energy sources. We’re a state that benefits from economic opportunities sparked by producing energy from the wind, the sun and the crops we grow.

More than 70,000 Iowans face losing health insurance obtained through the Affordable Care Act as uncertainty, indecision and partisan politics roil the health care system. You promised a “terrific” Obamacare replacement, but we haven’t seen anything resembling a terrific plan.

As Iowa struggles to afford its state investments in public schools, human services, the justice system and many other services used by Iowans every day, your proposed budget would make the situation worse.

But we think it’s critical you understand the real world implications of these and many other policies your administration is proposing.

We concede it’s not as much fun as hearing the cheers and chants of folks convinced you’re making America great again. But it’s what presidents do.

I have never been in Cedar Rapids, have never read the Gazette, but the editor(s) who wrote this letter have my respect.  Trump was put in his place without rancor, and I know from experience how hard that is to do!  Hats off to the Editorial Board at the Gazette.  If you would like to read the letter in its entirety, here is a link.

Apparently, as this is his fifth such ‘rally’ in as many months, he intends to turn the presidency into a four-year-long campaign rally.  I vote we impeach him now and put an end to this waste of taxpayer money … money that could be better spent on environmental issues, education and health care.

But let us look at just a bit of his ‘rally-rhetoric’ …

In reference to Tuesday’s special election in Georgia: “All we do is win, win, win. We won last night. The truth is, people love us … they haven’t figured it out yet.”

In reference to the ongoing, multiple Russian investigations: “They have phony witch hunts going against me.”

In reference to wind-harnessed energy: “I don’t want to just hope the wind blows to light up your house and your factory as the birds fall to the ground.”

When he mentioned Hillary Clinton, the crowd lustily chanted, “Lock her up,” as if the election had not taken place. When are these people going to get over their obsession with Obama and Hillary???

He told the crowds he has made “amazing progress” in his first five months. HUH?

Trump said he will soon introduce legislation that would bar immigrants to the United States from being on welfare for their first five years in the country.  It should be noted that under a 1996 welfare law signed by President Bill Clinton, legal immigrants must live in the United States for a minimum of five years to become eligible for social aid programs.

Trump also told the crowd that he is contemplating putting solar panels on the wall that he has pledged to build on the U.S.-Mexico border. “The higher it goes, the more valuable it is, Pretty good imagination, right? . . . We could make it really look beautiful, too.”

But the part of his speech I find most offensive is the defense of his uber-wealthy cabinet officers.  This topic will ultimately get a post of its own, but briefly, he stated, “Somebody said why did you appoint a rich person to be in charge of the economy? No it’s true. And Wilbur’s [commerce secretary Wilbur Ross] a very rich person in charge of commerce. I said: ‘Because that’s the kind of thinking we want.’”  Trump’s cabinet is the first ever cabinet comprised of multiple billionaires. Because “that’s the kind of thinking” he wants.  That single statement tells us all we need to know about how Trump views We The People.  Our thinking, our needs, are irrelevant to him unless we have ten digits in our net worth column.

To clarify his point, he spoke of his economic adviser Gary Cohn, saying, “[Gary] had to give up a lot to take these jobs,” and that Cohn in particular, a former president of Goldman Sachs, “went from massive pay days to peanuts”.  It is true that Cohn’s salary at Goldman Sachs was in the 9-figure range, however to say that his government pay is peanuts, when he receives more than twice what the average American family earns, is a slap in the face to us all!  And Donald Trump is too stupid to realize it, and what’s worse is he doesn’t care.

Trump’s handlers have had their hands full trying to keep him off Twitter, and they have reportedly encouraged him to get out of Washington, in light of his falling poll numbers, the fallout over his ill-advised firing of James Comey, and the ongoing Russian investigations into Trump, his family and staff.  I understand their view and their frustration, but it is an abomination for him to be spending our money campaigning for an election in 4 years where his name will NOT even appear on the ticket.  Especially at this time, when we are being told that we have so little value that Congress and Trump will be signing our death warrants with their “health care” bills.

estupidos

These two seem happy to have been hoodwinked, don’t they?  Fools.

The wind is at our backs now, with red states leading the way

In the current administration, where we all fear that fossil fuel output, dangerous and destructive oil pipelines, and coal mining will return to their heyday, at a devastating cost to our environment, my blogger-friend Keith has positive news on renewable energy sources and their continuity in spite of Trump and Pruitt! Please take a few moments to read Keith’s post and drop him a comment to let him know you appreciate a bit of positive news! Thank you Keith, both for the post and the unspoken permission to share!

While our President is not a fan of wind energy (having unsuccessfully sued the Scottish government to stop an offshore development) and has made some climate change is a hoax comments, rather quietly, renewable energy continues to move up the charts. Solar energy is going like gangbusters with double-digit growth in production and jobs, but wind energy has surpassed hydro energy as the largest form of renewable energy in the US. What is interesting, most of the growth in wind energy is occurring rather quietly in mostly red states.

From an American Energy News article last week:

Texas has more than 20 MW of installed wind capacity, or nearly a quarter of the market. Iowa is the second-biggest wind state, and Oklahoma overtook California for third place at the end of 2016.

The first offshore wind project in the United States also came online in the fourth quarter…
